December 1 2022

I'm a little late but before the day is over. I'm hoping to make it to the end of the year without further problems. We will be getting together here in Regina for a Christmas party. So, besides Christmas itself there's a couple other events to look forward to. Hope the season is good to everyone.

November 2022

Happy November. We are running out of year with over 300 days behind us. Last night was an interesting night of ghouls, goblins, witches, princesses, dinosaurs, skeletons, animals and ones I'm not sure of. We had 125 bars but we only had 28 people come to the door. The most we ever had was 42 so I started giving 2 bars per visitor, by the end of the night I was giving 4 per visit, I still have 60 bars left. I'm a bit of a chocoholic but it will take me 2 days to eat all those. Our neighbor across the street pulled a first ever on us when she came to the door with a treat for us, two pieces of a pumpkin chocolate swirl cake. She called it a reverse Halloween. It was new to us, I had eaten too many bars to have it last night, I'll have it for breakfast today. I'm on my way to walk with Heather.

October 4, 2022

Whoa! Nelly Bell. That's the phrase that seems appropriate to slow down life in order for me to get an October entry on the blog. The brain is a funny thing, When I thought of "Whoa! Nelly Bell" I thought, that's from a long time ago, like, a real long time ago. It was the name Roy Roger's buddy called his jeep. Then I thought, Dale Evans was Roy's girlfriend, Bullet was the name of his dog, he had a fancy saddle on his horse "Trigger". Then my mind thought of The Lone Ranger because he also named his horse, it was Silver, he didn't say "giddy up', he'd say "Hi ho Silver away" then somebody would say "who was that masked man?" Lone had a first nations friend named Tonto, the show was kind of ahead of it's time with a cowboy and first nations person as friends, the actor who played Tonto, Jay Silverheels was a first nations person. Then I thought of Bob Dylan, it's 6 am, I coming out of night brain. Dylan had a verse in a song:

The Lone Ranger and Tonto

were riding down the line

fixing everybody's troubles

everybody's except mine

someone must of told them

I was doin' fine

Like I said the brain is a funny thing when it comes to remembering, but it didn't remember to put in a blog entry on October first, I'm embarrassed.

P.S. I don't know when I would have remembered had I not received a notice someone in the U.K. was blocked when trying to access my account. I had given Louise my password to access the blog in case the Grim Reaper caught up to me on one of my walks. I guess Google was trying to look out for me.

September 1 2022

I don't have anything to say so I'll put up this song, I can't remember if I did it before, so apologies if I did.

I dreamt I saw my dad, he said "hello son"

I said, "I've walked a million steps without

my laces coming undone"

He said, "how many?" in his special way

I said, "I passed fifty million just the other day."

I visited my mom, she was on her knees

She said, " Edward would you help me say my rosary please?"

I said, " I've got the time mom, we can get it done"

She started with the Joyful Mystery number one.

When I'm with my sisters I learn as much as I can

The things I've learned from them make me a better man,

They've made their mark from place to place throughout the years

And when we get together it brings my heart to tears.

My brothers are my heroes though they may not know

I don't brag about them so it doesn't show

When we get together we have so much fun

I have so much love for each and every one.

There is so much love in this heart of mine

This much love can make a dull day shine

So much love and so much to share

It can drive the darkness out of anywhere

August 1/2022

What a month that was! We had a few gatherings. Mary dropped in to see as many of the family as she could, so Len set us up at the RMF building for a gathering of family for her.  Then Len and Kelly hosted their annual Corn Hole tournament and feast. We were lucky enough to have Vic and Don come down from Saskatoon for the party. Tony and Bonnie won the tournament for the third year in a row. Somehow Brant heard news of the mini reunions so decided to bring Briana to Regina. Len set us up at the RMF facility again and Rob brought the band he plays for and we had a sing along party. We thought Tina Turner had shown up for it but turns out it was our sister Christine singing and dancing a proud Mary performance. We had a set back when Len lost his best friend to cancer, Kelly Hamilton was like a brother to us all. Then on the last day of the month during our Sunday morning church service our sister Louise showed up by way of Facetime and we were able to sing her a "Happy Birthday to you." Here's hoping for another eventful month.

                               HAPPY CANADA DAY

Big day for Canadians. I've never gotten the proud to be Canadian deal. If you were born Canadian it's not at all difficult being Canadian. Happy to be Canadian I get. You have to be careful with pride, I don't know if you realize, but I don't usually put a picture on the blog, it's because at 71 I just discovered how, how proud can I be now. I'm playing a game called Free Cell, most, if not all of you know the game, I play 1000 games and then compare my statistics to the last 1000 I played. I do it to see if I'm getting smarter as I get older or more stupider. I've played 993 games of my third 1000 and it's not looking good, in fact I'm going to finish worse in 6 of 11 categories. 😟 Not only that, did any of you guys know that the cap on a Tim Horton's cup has a little flap that folds back and clips in place so you can drink with the cap in place, new knowledge for this brainiac. I cut myself a bit of slack because I don't drink coffee . Before you go on thinking I spend an awful lot of time on Free Cell, my average time playing a game is under 5 minutes, so that's 5000 minutes or about 83 hours. There are 3 goals each day i.e. 1. win game # 43521 in 110 moves or less, 2. win two random games and 3. fill the free cells with 5's then win the game. Sometimes you can finish all goals in 1 game and you're done for the day. I started this last 1000 August 19, 2021 so I spend on average, less than 15 minutes a day. Also, I've been lucky so far, the computer hasn't given me the game that can't be won.👍 These little emojis are adding a lot of time to my posting, I better close out so you get this today. Have a great Canada Day.🎆 ( I don't know, do those look like fireworks to you)

May 1 / 2022

Another quiz. This one is very different, no rules. You can use Google all you want, it will help a little. You'll need each other's help, there is not much chance anyone of you will figure all of these out. I am not opposed to accepting clever answers as correct, although each question has correct answers. A point will be awarded for correct answers and some questions will offer multiple points for additional information. For example...if I asked ...Where is there a terrazzo map of the city of Regina in the floor? The Antonini & Sons building would score a point, on Albert Street would get an additional point, as would 1544 the actual address and for another point you could add, it is now the Flaman Fitness business, for a total of 4 points. The scoring will be as follows:

20 - alright, I guess

21-30 that's a little better

31-40 now we're talking

41-50 that's impressive

51-60 HOLY MOLY

61 +    You're the G O A T s

April 1, 2022

I am repeating the rules before posting the contest. No deadline.

My entry April 1 is going to be a quiz for anybody interested. The answers will take only a little bit of thinking and can easily be looked up. Here are the rules:

1. Twenty questions asking who?
2. Before looking at the questions set up a stop watch to time yourselves, the quiz should only take minutes.
2. Send your answers and time to my email.
3. A wrong answer will add 1 minute to your time
4. The winner will be the person who has the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time.
5. No rules against looking up the answers, advantage will be gained by knowing some of the answers without having to look them up.
6. Any questions? Prize is bragging rights.

Maybe a little fun in this f'd up world.

February 2022

January !3, Marcia's birthday. Pat picked me up that morning and we drove out to The Creeks, an upscale subdivision in southeast Regina. The house was what they call a walkout basement, they have to move a lot of dirt to produce walkout basements in the city of Regina, they had done it for this one. That's where we would start, 1300 square feet of glued down engineered hardwood. It took us the largest portion of the day to prepare the floor but we were able to get enough hardwood done to give us a good start the next morning. We hadn't worked since June of 21 so both of us had muscles complaining, something to do with lactic acid buildup. He blamed me, said I should have said "no", I blamed him, said he shouldn't have asked me. My knees were so sore I didn't even think about my muscles. I have great knee pads but I had crawled around the floor so much that first day my jeans had rubbed a rug burn onto my knees. A little bit of lotion and some knee wraps prepared me for the second day and then I'd have the weekend to recover. There is so much laughter at Tony's Sunday morning it's like a dose of medication so I was ready for Monday. It took us a few more days to finish the basement and a couple more to install the stairs to the main floor. Once I've done my initial measurements for the stairs I'm off my knees, I do all the cutting and Pat does the installation. Another dose of medication at Tony's and I'm ready for the next week. We had another 1300 feet to do on the main. This was nailed down, so different muscles up here. We are one of the final trades so the builder starts getting excited and tries to hurry the finish and you get trades trying to work around each other which actually slows things down. Then you have the tourists the sales people bring in to see the house before it's actually even finished. They have little strategies where they'll stand in front of the saws so you can't use them, my mask used to discourage them but everyone wears a mask now so they think the cloth ones protect them from the construction dust as well as mine does. I do have a few strategies of my own, I can nail enough that the compressor recycles often and our undercut saw for cutting jambs and casings is quite loud. They might wear masks but they don't wear ear plugs. Pat asks, "Why do you do that?" I say "if they want to talk sales they can do it outside" He says, "it's forty below outside," I say, "ok , then they can do it in the garage, I want to get done, we're retiring after this one." He says, "Ok, I'll start the vacuum". So on Friday, January 28 around 10:30 I hung up my tools for good, well, that's not exactly true, they're in a box under my basement stairs. Now I'm retired, again.
