This is a continuation of the family blog.
Unfortunately, the solution to archiving comments is not as straightforward as I had hoped. It would involve hacking code and since I'm just not up to snuff on that anymore, it's going to have to be a less elegant solution.
Comments are inseparably linked to their original posts, so I created this new post. You can still access any comments you missed from the original post by clicking on it in the archive to the right of this post.
Each week, I'll create a new post. This should help with the blogging down problem I, and apparently others, have experienced.
Sorry Melissa, it's going to create a little bit of addition work, but I'm sure someone with your inestimable talent with numbers won't have any difficulty.
Thomas (masquerading as Ed).

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 600 Newer› Newest»Yes, BJ, you answered my latest riddle correctly. I wanted to include Aunt Jean on the blog though I know so little about her myself. I think most of us would have to say that.
Mom always spoke highly of her sister, Jean, who married Archie Ruthven and moved to B.C. as a young woman. There she raised two children, Zoey and Colin.
Occasionally we saw Jean in person when she came home from the West Coast. Sometimes at Christmas, Jean sent Mom a box of holly branches with red berries to use as decorations around our house.
Mom described Jean as beautiful, gentle and kind. Thank you for your added insights into her wit and intelligence, Betty-Jo. I believe that Vic would know more about Aunt Jean than any of us because she stayed with Jean and Archie for a while.
In the early 1970's, when Jean suddenly became ill, her three sister travelled to B.C. to be with her. Jean died while Betty, Barbara and Mom were still being assessed as possible blood donors.
We have heard a lot on the blog about family traits. Mom once told me that her mother was "generous to a fault". Each of Ida May Wilson's four daughters has lived life with that same kind spirit. To know Barbara and Mom today is to remember Jean, Betty and Grandma Wilson, too.
It seems that we need all the memory aids we can muster:
NOTE YOUR STAY IN PROSE OR RHYME
AND BUILD A RECORD OVER TIME.
Lots of love, Louise (#1577)
Marcia also kills with her response to the survey, well done.
She also becomes the 15th out of 16 to complain about filling it out while filling it out. That might say something about "you people."
Speaking of the great greats, I hadn't even thought about that generation. If our Canada addition to the clan makes Vic and Don great-grandparents that would make Grandma a great great grandmother again. Anyone know how many of those there are (and can you name them in birth order hahahahahahahaha?)
Speaking of tennis, Serena Williams just dispatched Huntchakova to advance to the quarter finals against Henin.
BJ, thanks for the story, although it's not as funny as I remember it being when you told it in person, maybe it's just not blog-friendly.
In any event, I still get up in the middle of the night to look at the stars or, especially, northern lights.
i've caught up now, lucy, the riddles and surveys are bloggin up the blog, but i would'nt want it any other way.
vic, drinkin the flower too, now thats funny.
marcia, i remember the black licorice.
b.j, sorry about that, i forgot the nut dos'nt fall to far from the tree

Thomas!
Dennis and I were just about to watch our 'recorded' version of Wimbledon. We have been so careful not to hear any results and then...
I had to check the blog - doh!
I won't tell him what I just read, (and it is good news). I'll pretend...
Yay Serena!
Marcia #1582
Louise,
Thank You for the info about Jean.
I remember Jean and the one occasion that sticks in my memory, is when she came out into the back yard at 1140 and told me that the soil was the best she'd ever seen. She smiled at me with those big beautiful sad eyes. Every time I looked at anything in the garden after that day, I thought of her.
Lucy, Where are you gettin' this stuff?
Is there an Antonini encyclopedia on the net or something? Nobody can know this much about us.
Hey Thomas
Good tunes. Versatile. I like the production too. And good keyboard player.
Marty #1579

Holy Smokes! They're coming fast and furious today, must be a holiday or something.
Sorry Marcia, it's the newsman in me. A couple of years ago, I had to work during the final round of the Masters (second favourite sports event of the year) but I made sure to get it on tape. I took great pains to make sure I didn't hear anything about it aqll day long.
I got home, unplugged the phone and got ready to watch. What I didn't realize was there had been a rain delay or a playoff or something and turned on the TV just in time to see the green jacket presentation... D'OH!
Thanks Marty, my brother has always made me look good. If you think the production is good now (those are rough mixes converted to MP3) wait until you hear the final full version! If Kenneth ever finishes it, that is. Damn perfectionists.
1587
Hi Louise,
I'm going to guess your last riddle to be Vic, she is coming up with some great stuff which is being recorded on this blog. To do it once or twice is great but she just continues to do it.
1588
Marcia,
Loved your response to the survey, I got mine in early but even after the number we have you are still original. I love tulips to, especially the two lips on the face of Geralbline Avidontine.
1589
Lucy,
As much as I would like the answer to your riddle to be Vic, I think it is the guest books Mom has that everyone who visits the suite is asked to write in,
BJ
#1590
Vic,
Is the answer to Huge Husk, Skin for the movie Spin?
BJ
Yes, BJ,
You are right about my latest riddle. The funny thing is that Ed is the greatest contributor to the guest book that sits on Mom's coffee table awaiting visitor comments. I figured this riddle was his to solve.
Sorry, Ed. Our blog is the "new kid on the block" in comparison to the record of comings and goings that Mom has collected in guest books over the years.
There must be at least a dozen volumes that make fascinating reading, with dated entries going back to events and happenings at 1140 Garnet Street. Without doubt, Mom's hard-copy of Ed's Edition is the latest and the greatest, in this on-going series of family writings.
Already those books are treasures. (Lindsey once borrowed them from Mom to take to Calgary and read at her leisure.) Someone is sure to preserve them as family archives for future generations that will come know us from our writings without ever having met us. In that regard, Vic's blog entries will provide them with a wealth of positive profiles.
I know that I would to see Mom's blog binder at our reunion. It is possible that some of us may not have seen any of its forerunners either. Can we bring some of them along as well?
Here's a new riddle for you to consider:
A SKILL OUR MOTHER NEVER HAD
ALTHOUGH SHE TRIED TO HELP OUR DAD.
LOLOL, Lucy (#1592)
Marcia ...what a great survey response you posted. You make us laugh even across the miles.
Martin ...thanks for telling us about your meeting with Aunt Jean. I remember her "sad eyes" too.
Mike ...The bad news(I hope)is that I'm anticipating a long absence from the blog very soon. Mom doesn't even have a computer, let alone the Internet. The good news(I hope)is that I'll be in Regina in person on July 13th.
Thom ...I have your dad's family tree right here with all my other reference materials. I have already added Theresa Briana Robinson. I could take up your latest challenge if I weren't heading to bed for a good night's sleep instead.
LOL, Lucy (#1593)
Oooops ...That's Theresa BRIANE Robinson. I have to be exact when adding to the tree for future reference.
Lucy (#1594)
Luce, I'd like to see that tree, then I could take up the challenge myself. I've only got the descendants of BJ and Bob branch and that's three pages by itself!
Speaking of treasures, Lorraine and I just went on a purging rampage. We threw out about a dozen garbage bags of the type of stuff you wonder why you ever kept and put together several boxes for charity.
Found a lot of fun stuff though, old letters and cards, my novel (crap) and play (good). No picture of Grandma's red nose and horns, unfortunately.
Melissa, where are you.

Hi Louise,
Is the answer to your riddle back seat driving? I think Mom did have her licence for a very short period of time, but I also think she would agree with you that she lacked skill! She behaves herself very well when I'm driving, but I do have a funny story about that.
One day I was driving her to mass, and a pigeon flung itself in front of my car. The girls peeked out the back window to confirm that the crunch we heard was me running over it. Mom commented lightly that it was too bad, but didn't say anything else.
On our way home from church, we stopped at the bank, and while I was pulling out of the bank parking lot, a pedestrian began walking in front of me.
"Watch out for the pedestrian," Mom advised.
"Yes, I see him," I answered.
Without missing a beat (as she seldom does), she said, "Well, I was just thinking about the pigeon this morning."
I would have made her get out and walk, except we were just across the street from her apartment, so it wouldn't have been a very effective message.
Len, loved your beach story and visiting with you at the hospital yesterday - I'll keep in touch with Kelly while you're away so you can keep tabs on Mom.
Vic and Louise, It will be great to have you home - Mom is really looking forward to seeing you. It was so apparent from her visits with Marty, Mary Ellen, and Lou that each of Mom's children brings something of great unique value to her, and she is incredibly perceptive about the impact of her difficult time on each of us. Marcia and BJ, rest assured that your physical absence is only that - Mom knows you are both holding her in your hearts, and feels safe and at home there.
Thérèse
Sorry - that was 1602, this is 1603.
TIA
I'll guess playing the piano as the answer to the riddle.
Ellie and I had a good visit with Grandma this afternoon. She looked pretty tired when I went up, but she brightened right up when she saw Ellie! Ellie is very good for that: she came into the world as a prayer for Tricia and she has been bringing grace to the sick ever since!
Thomas, I take the kids up to see Grandma every Hallowe'en. I've got a picture for you to post...
I can't wait to see it, Holly, email me at mazerall@telus.net.
Anyone else who has any pictures, music, whatever, email it to me and I will post it.
As promised, cousin Holly's picture of Grandma at Hallowe'en is now posted on my Barking at the Big Blog blog.
I laughed my butt off. Grandma is a nut... and we wouldn't have it any other way!
Btw, Holly, one of the treasures I found in my trip down memory lane this afternoon was a letter I wrote to you many moons ago. I hope you still don't have it.
Just joking, it's kinda neat to get an insight into your younger self sometimes, even if it is embarrassing.
And seriously folks, anything you've got you want posted (photos, video, art, music etc...) I'm happy to post it. As Luce said, the B@BB site is becoming a nice little multimedia ancilliary the main blog.
Still waiting for Holly's painting too.
1608
Thank you Therese. I needed that assurance about Mom.
Love, BJ
1609
And also as promised, Holly's paintings uploaded to Barking at the Big Blog.
1610
And may I add: Very, very nice, Holly.
1611
Hey Luce
I think I'll take a stab at this one, although I think Therese may have it with the back seat driving.
Was it when Dad would make gnocchi?
I remember Mom would help, but she never made it herself.
Mart
hey luce, maybe we can get a computor for the suite?
love mike
Jeez everyone...can't go away for a few days without missing an entire novel!
Mom, Dad and I just returned from a whirlwind trip to Regina for a wedding. Grandma looked great when we saw her, but I told her we'd all take care of the praying so she could rest! She does look good in hospital blues with her red hair and blue eyes.
We got to see a few of you in between wedding stuff and we're really looking forward to August! It's going to be great to see everyone and I think there may be a risk of everyone peeing their pants from laughing so hard.
You know you're an Antonini when you're in town visiting someone and leave the table to check the blog. (dad at ed's) You also know you're an Antonini when it makes perfect sense for your visitor to go check the blog. (ed)
1613?
Welcome back Trish. As they say in Antonini Blogland, you travel, you lose a lot of blog time.
How long a drive is it to Regina from Calgary, I'm trying to guage my halfway point.
Speaking of which, nobody has answered my 'where am I going to stay in Regina' query. I can't afford to stay in them swanky big city hotels.
Hey, I only need about 4,200 more plays to get on the most popular list, hahahahahaha. That's only around 42 plays per family member.
Get to work, and get all your friends to play my songs too.
YIKES!! AND YIKES AGAIN!
I'll be back after I catch up ( that may take a while ).
I'm returning to Regina next Sunday, so hopefully, I'll be caught up before then. Ed very kindly helped me stay pretty current when I was there, but the last 2 days have gotten away from me. I love all the entries that I have managed to read and must say one more time:
REDO GAUDY MOON!!!
Thank you to all my family for the wonderful care & love & concern that Mom is receiving. You are awesome!
Mom, we're thinking of you and praying for you all the time. You are definitely in our hearts, as Therese so beautifully said.
Love you all,
ME xoxoxoxoxo
#241
Yes Therese,
...your answer to my latest riddle is close enough. Actually, the skill Mom NEVER had was that of being able to drive a car with confidence and ease.
I was with Mom once when she was behind the wheel. She was more nervous in the driver's seat than she ever was in the back-seat driver's position (if that's possible). For her own peace of mind and for the safety of others, Mom made a conscious decision to leave the driving to Dad.
However, she quickly became a most attentive BACK-SEAT DRIVER. That is a "skill" Mom DID master. In fact the definition of "back-seat driver" could well be Mary Clark Antonini.
It is even possible that her watchfulness averted a few accidents but we will never know that for sure. Rosary in hand, Mom never took her eyes off the road. She was behind the wheel with Dad, all the way.
I love your story, Therese. It shows just how automatically Mom does her back-seat driving. After all that practice, it just comes naturally for her. As Thom would say..."easy peasy".
Now, who do we have here?
A SUMMER FRIEND WITH "DARING DO",
AND YET AN AUNT WHO LOVES US TOO.
Love, Lucy (#1618)
Holly ...it was so good to read about Ellie's effect on her Great-grandma during their hospital visit. That has to be the best kind of medicine for anyone!
Thanks, too, for sending Thom the picture of Grandma Antonini as the Queen of Hearts. We would know her anywhere, that kid at heart.
I also took a side trip over to B@BB (as Thom shortens it) to have a look at your three paintings. They are bright and bold, with strong lines and intense feeling. Nice art work! I hope you never stop painting no matter how busy life gets for you.
Love, Anutie Lucy (#1619)
Thom ...get your dad to send you the non-pictoral version of the descendants of Luigi Silvano Antonini and Mary Clark Wilson. It is printed on 5 pages and color-coded by generation for easy reference. I'm sure that he is updating it all along.
In answer to your question about great-great grandchildren (referred to as 2nd Great-grandchildren on Bob's tree - color, yellow) there are five. Their names in order of birth are:
Sadie Wasylko (2003)
Dehlia MacDonald (2004)
Carmen Wasylko (2005)
Piper MacDonald (2006)
Theresa Robinson (2007)
Easy peasy! Luce (#1620)
Ed ...the name Geralbline Avidontine has appeared on the blog often enough for it to become part of our vocabulary. It fairly rolls off the tongue with music and humor. We like it; but we love her!
Mike ...a computer in Mom's suite would be too much to handle. Her telephone is already confusing enough.
Marty ...Mom could make gnocchi but she knew she was onto a good thing with Dad at the helm and the kids up to their elbows in flour.
Holly ...even when we were growing up, and before Dad needed Mom beside him on the piano bench, Mom played the piano on her own. There was one piece (I forget the name) in which she always paused at the same place to locate the next note on the keys. I waited for it to come and once it did she breezed on through the rest of the song. By the way, Mom often sang as she played. Maybe that's where Marty got the idea?
Therese ...thanks for the advance welcome home. You are right, each one of Mom's children brings something special to her life. That's probably why she's never quite "whole" until she has had contact with all of us.
Tricia ...that's a great new "you know you're an Antonini when..." Are those brothers so addicted to the blog that they would leave Deanie's table to devour words instead of dessert? Surely things haven't gone that far!
I must add my thanks to the Regina families for all you are doing in spirit and action to restore Mom to good health.
Lots of love, Louise (#1621)
Hi Louise,
I think your riddle refers to Auntie Vic. I don't remember a lot about her but I do remember her being at grandmas cottage during our visits in the summer months and I remember the signal of two honks dad made, as we drove down Fairchild past their place, to let them know we had arrived for the summer. I do remember Vic as being very confident and good to grandma and grandpa.
1622
Your taxi is waiting
I'll be away from the blog for a few days. I'm leaving this morning for Regina to see our little Mother(or, depending on whose reading this, your Grandmother, Great-grandmother or Great-Great)and to stay for a few days. I'm very anxious to see Mom and am so grateful for the wonderful care and visits she has been getting from her family. Thanks for the updates and reassuring reports for those of us who have not been there.
I have a book of sayings called Apples of Gold that derives its' name from the Bible(Proverbs 25:11)- "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." Thanks to all you bloggers(and in particular Louise, whose verse has been the catalyst) for all the wonderful recollections, humor and love - a veritable harvest of words! Love you all, Vic
Hi,
I'm still reading and enjoying everyone's comments. Thanks for the memories!

Michele, love your quotes!
Holly- Thank you for your suggested readings, I will go pick up all three today and get to work on them. I too am like you when it comes to a good book, I can't seem to put it down either. I prop them up while cooking or folding laundry, its rather strange actually.... maybe that's an Antonini thing cause I've caught my Dad doing it too... I will let you know what I think.
Auntie Lucy- (I love your new nickname) I did borrow Grandma's books last year. I read every last one of them and as with the blog, was addicted. I learnt so much about this family and it was a gift to feel as if I knew each one of you better. A close second to actually spending more time getting to know you all. I am looking forward to the day each of you gets to share this experience.
Uncle Marty- I will bring your Ipod to you asap. I was away in the Okanogan all weekend and couldn't get it to you before I left. I will drop it off one night this week. Oh and what time do you sing on Saturday? I am going to mosey on down dressed in my cowgirl gear and heckle you ;) Kidding but I am going to come by and listen in....
Dad- Moooooooo casa sooooooo casa
Love Linz
Hi Lyndz
I am playing both Saturdays at 5:30pm on the "Window On The West" Stage in the Roundup Center.
You can bring my ipod then if you like.
Hey Lucy
Daring do sounds like Auntie Vic. I think Eddie got it. I remember, she swam like a shark. She was one tuff lady.
Marty #1626
Hi, Ed and Marty...
Although Auntie Vic might fit some of the description in my latest riddle, she was not close enough to any of us in age to have been a summer friend egging us on to have fun in daring ways. She is also not still around to be loving us in the present moment.
As is my pattern in the past, I will add two more lines to assist in the solving of this latest riddle:
A SUMMER FRIEND WITH "DARING DO"
AND YET AN AUNT WHO LOVES US, TOO
(SHE SAID SHE'D TRAVEL ANYWHERE
TO HEAR HER NEPHEW PLAY WITH FLAIR.)
LOLOL, Lucy (#1627)
We were in to see mom this morning, there was a marked improvement, her antibiotics are finished and she was a little less nauseated and even managed to eat a small bit of lunch. She is looking forward to seeing Vic today.
Is it anutie Joan then?
Hey Ed
What are you doin'?
Checking your pocket blog while you're laying hardwood?
Or are you like me: quit everything and became a full time blogger.(this is your fault Lucy).
Love,
Marty # 1630
Hi Marty,
I decided to quit everything and become a full time blogger
1631
Marty,
I thought I heard some one say "you're blind and old" to me today. I thought it was my boss's voice but my hearing is not what it used to be so i asked him to come closer so I could see who it was ( my eyes aren't quite as good either). It was him sure enough, so I walked out on him, told him I quit. I walked out the door and started walking home, being in Regina I can walk home from anywhere. I saw him waving at me when he walked out to the truck, but I was long gone. You know, addio! arrivederci! goodbye!
1632
...uh...yeah....okay.
Marty.
I just got a call from my boss, he said he has lined up another job. I said , "I quit" he said "What?" I Said "I quit" He said "When?" i said,"This morning, you didn't try to stop me, you saw me walking away" he said " I thought you were just walking home...Why are you quitting?" "You called me blind and old" I said. There was silence on the line, then he said "No! No! I didn't say you're blind and old, I said We're finding mold". That's why I didn't stop you, man, I just thought you were taking the rest of the day off. How about tomorrow?
Yeah, sure, pick me up in the morning.
Click.
1633
Oh, yes, Ed
The answer to my riddle is Dad's youngest sister, Auntie Joan.
I don't think that I knew Joan was my aunt in the years that we were growing up together at the beach. She added excitement and fun to so many of our beach activities. In those times we were simply friends.
There are also pictures in my childhood album of Joan at Hallowe'en joining us for trick-or-treat activities in October. We saw her at other times throughout the year, too, but it was during the summer that we had the most fun together.
Joan and Jerry raised their family in rural Saskatchewan in the North Portal area. Over the years my own contact with them dwindled to a once-a-year Christmas card and letter, and an occasional chance meeting in Regina. But I noticed that Joan followed each of our lives with keen interest and love.
After Dad died, Joan asked me to send her some poignant memories that she could stitch into a picture of remembrances for Mom. Her exquisite handiwork is hanging on the wall in the suite. It includes a picture of Dad, several of our favorite quotes and, of course, roses.
About two years ago I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon in Regina with Joan. Marty turned up at the suite as well and he ended up entertaining us as only he can do. It was the first time that Joan had heard Marty perform and she was keen to know when and where she could attend one of his live performances. Her enthusiasm was electric.
I hope that we are going to see Aunt Joan at our August reunion. If she is able to attend, the love she has always had for us and our mother will be so evident that it will astound you.
Now, here's my final poser for you:

We will be back in St. Andrews on the 10th. We'll check in with you on the blog at that time. As you know, I'll be flying back to Canada on the 13th.

I see you've been as busy as an Antonini.
Yesterday I was thinking I didn't understand why it was so hard for some people to keep up with the blog. I was watching sports, doing laundry, cooking, playing guitar and numerous other things. I'd pop into the blog every now and again, make a post and go back to my multi-tasking.
Then BAM! one day back at work and I'm scrambling.
I can't believe Luce is going to be gone for a week. That's willpower! I bet she'll be jonesing in the hotel, sneeking around asking people "excuse me, can you spare some bandwidth. I swear, I won't use it to blog."
Hey, where is everybody? Did Lucy's departure leave everyone so much in the dumps that no one is blogging? Now that her riddles are over, what do we do for entertainment? Anyone have any ideas? I'll work on it, but I hope someone more creative will beat me to it.
Love, BJ

PS. Just had a thougth. Don't tell me we've moved to a new site?
Hey people!
What's going on? Louise will be disappointed I'm sure if she comes back to find one or two new entries. I think she was responsible for 1 out of every four entries on the blog but we better give her something to read when she gets back. You might be an Antonini if you've misplaced or locked your keys in the car. Who thinks they have the worst example other than me of that happening?
Don't worry Betty Jo there won't be any new threads for a long, long time. I had to revoke Thomas's access to the controls.

I once locked the keys in the car while it was running. I had to phone Bob at work, and one of his co-workers had to drive him to where I was so he could unlock the door. I didn't think of blaming on the Antonini genes at the time. What a missed opportunity. I know this won't be the worst example, but it's a start.
Love, BJ
Hi BJ & Ed,
So far you're the only ones to blog on this July 4th. A very quiet blog day, that's for sure!I would say everyone is enjoying the holiday, except it's not a holiday for us.
Good start on the key story BJ. I have to think about that one because there are a few.

A day without Luce is like a day without half a dozen posts to start the morning with.
Don't worry, I promise not to move things around anymore with or without Ed's blessing. I'll just have to learn to live with the fact I live in a place that hasn't quite made it to the 21st century yet. The blog is already getting seriously blogged down again on this supposed high-speed connection we've got.
When Bryen was but a wee tyke, I strapped him in his car seat, but as we were getting ready to pull out, I realized I forgot something. I rushed back into the house leaving the car running. Needless to say, I had inadvertantly locked the car doors. I frantically tried to get Bryen to lift the lock gesturing with my hands. He was a little too young to appreciate what I was getting at, but had a grand old time laughing his little head off thinking I was playing some kind of game with him. Leslie was not quite as happy about it, again, needless to say. Unfortunately it was one of those cars that are impervious to the old clothes hanger trick and we had to call a tow-truck driver to break in. My panic quickly turned to embarrassment, but a quarter tank of gas and a $35 towtruck bill later, little bryen was rescued and off we drove.
I have never locked my keys in the car since.
Hi again everyone,
I didn't know which gene to blame this embarrasing situation on, because my dad is VERY organized, but now I know it was the Antonini one! One January when it was -30 degrees C at 10:00pm in Calgary, I started my van and promptly jumped out to scrape the windshield.. forgetting that I had started the van and left the keys in the ignition. I shut the door and happily began to scrape. It turned out that I had locked and alarmed the van, so I had to ask a stranger in the mall parking lot to use a cell phone to call someone to come and unlock my door! (YIKES) It was the coldest and longest 15 minutes in -30 degrees I have ever spent! Brrr.. glad to know that I'm not alone in a full boat of key losing Antonini's!
Cousin Barbara
Good morning bloggers,
My keys story took place ten years ago in the second week of the month October. Yes siree, our 25th wedding anniversary. Deanie and I had a young friend, Dallas, who had become a very good friend of Holly's, and with her father's Toyota/Lexus dealership connection, suggested Holly and Heather and herself rent us a Lexus for our trip to Lake Louise. It was a very nice car to drive and we cruised our way up to lake Louise and parked at the lake to take a hike. Getting ready for the hike I reached into the back seat to grab the camera and didn't hear the key fall from my pocket onto the floor. As I walked away from the car Deanie asked if I had the keys, they were on the floor of the car and it was locked. Most rentals have a key hidden somewhere on the outside of the car but not this one, the locksmith I called was reluctant to try opening it and did not have the special equipment needed to make a new key. The Lexus dealership in Calgary could not help me so I had to phone Regina and have a key flown out to Calgary. I had to rent a car in Lake Louise, drive it to the Calgary airport, pick up the key and drive back to the lake. That Northstar System is a really good idea. We weren't surprised to see the Lexus as the only car in a usually over crowded parking lot at 3 in the morning. Deanie's 17 hour ordeal finally ended when I slid the key into the lock and the car door opened. I can't remember how much that rental cost me but I remember it being over $100. It did cure me of locking my keys in the car, I do still misplace them once in a while.

Here's another task for you.
The house at 1140 Garnet was the only house each of the 14 of us lived at. One of my memories of the house was the music room off the living room. We had an organ on the south wall and a piano on the north, it was the room I remember as being where dad would set up those wonderful, dazzling Christmas trees every year. Some of you might have other memories of that room.
Have a great day
Edward 1650
Hi All,
I have been gone so long it seems!! Let's see, I locked my computer in the car....as I was cutting my lawn... yeah, that's why I have been gone so long. Did I mention I was in Bethune while this happened? I was watching the "you might be a redneck if..." Demolition Derby. Then off to Regina Beach, the kids fished off the pier, went swimming. Has anyone seen that sign they have posted just as you venture out onto the pier now? It says something like - this pier is falling apart - use at your own risk!!!
Had a great visit on the weekend with Tricia, Lui and Marie. We also got the chance to visit with the Pinvidic side of the family. This is how I explained it to Jacob (who made instant ties with Grady).
Grandpa's sister Marcia (the one who gave dad that kick*ss kidney) married Dennis. Dennis' brother married Grandpa's brother Lou's wife Marie's sister. Grady is their son.
Read that 5 times and figure out why Jacob looked at me like I had lost my mind!
At one point during supper, my dad looked over at Lou, pointed to Jacob and Grady and said "right there - that's what makes it all worth it".
Jacob and Grady hit it off and just had a blast, finished off the visit with watersliding the next morning together too.
Don't you wish I blogged more often, rather than overblog a blog entry??
Don't worry, I am at work, I have to go!
Sonia
oh wait.
my locked my keys in the car story.
So, "back in the summer of '69", no wait it was the Summer of 2005... I took the kids to Wascana Park to feed the them to the geese. I mean so THEY could feed the geese. As soon as I slammed the door, I mean the second I slammed the door I knew what I had done. The keys were in the van....just sitting there on the seat looking at me.
So, I called my dad. I had an extra key at home in the cupboard. So he first had to find a key to my house...then went over there and looked for the key. As he was there, he called me to try to figure out if he had the right key. Meanwhile, the overpopulated geese had surrounded Jordon - they were even standing on his feet! With their stretched out necks they were almost pecking his face... So I just said to my dad "bring all the keys you can find one of them will work!". I then rescued Jordon, gave Jacob crap for just standing there and laughing and tried my hardest to not laugh....that didn't work - just picture it. It was hilarious.
So, that sort of ended Jordon's feeding for the night. We went and waited by the van. Along came my dad, we tried every key. None of them fit. I felt like a contestant on the Price is Right. So, we all pile into dad's car, go back to my house where I found my key. It wasn't where I told my dad to look - go figure. By now it's getting late, so I told Dad to go home and I called Dustin. Dustin came and picked us up, drove us to Wascana Park and Voila! the key worked and we drove home.
Our quick trip to Wascana Park turned into an all night affair!
So, Jordon's fear of geese and of me locking my keys in the car stem from this incident.
Everytime, just before I close my door - the kids ask - do you have your keys?
i have no idea what post this is. somewhere in the 1600's.

this is #1653.
and I remember the tree at 1140 garnet. i always thought that room was built just for the tree and the piano....
the kitchen was built for gnocchi making...
the cold room storage downstairs was built for all the canned food....i loved going down there with Cory.
later!
this is a bit of a twist to the car keys story, in 2001 i leased a mazda, when i got home i put my extra set of keys with the remote for doorlock and trunk in a special place so it would'nt get lost, to make a long story short i have never found those keys, i cannot for the life of me remember where i put them.
when i leased my toyota camri in 2005 i was so happy because i now had two sets of keys again, i can remember thinking while i held the two sets of keys in my hand what a relief it was that i did'nt have to look for the 2nd set of keys for the mazda anymore, and of course i thought that i would probably find them because i did'nt have the car anymore.
now you may not believe this but i put the keys from my new car in a special place again so i would'nt lose them, and its been 1 year and 11 months and i'm still looking for the 2nd set of keys for my new car, i have no idea where either set of keys are i've looked everywhere and i know they're not in the same place becuase when i put the keys away for the 2nd car the keys for the 1st car were not there. i probably should'nt tell this story because its so embarressing, but we have accumulated a lot of junk in our house for the last 23 years and its hard to find anything, so its either that excuse or we have a key ghost living in our home.
i remember the beautiful colorful tile on the living room fireplace, and the picture of the virgin mary and baby Jesus above it. that picture still hangs on the wall in moms suite.
you might be an antonini if you tell a car keys story and another antonini or relative has a worse one. (anybody, somebody, please)

I remember that that organ room at the front of the house originally had French doors and we thought of it as a separate room from the living room, not a part of it. At Christmas the doors were open and Great Grandma's large tree was in there.
And does anyone remember the kitchen nook that used to be where the sinks are now? There was a table with a bench on either side. (just like in a lot of 1940s movies). We loved it and always liked eating there. The old sink had been in the middle of the west wall of the kitchen. And there was a swinging door leading from the kitchen into the living room.
The pantry was straight ahead from the bottom of the basement stairs instead of to the right where it eventually ended up. Those are some of the things I remember about 1140 Garnet.
Mike,
Did you ever get Mom and St. Anthony working on your lost keys. They were a formidable team in our younger days!
St. Anthony, St. Anthony
Please come around
For something is lost
And cannot be found
Dear St Anthony, I pray
Bring it back without delay!
Love, BJ
#1656
Oops, I mean the swinging door was between the kitchen and dining room.
BJ
I'm not even going to bother with a key story! Ed's, Thom's Barb's ,Sonia's ,& Mike's are way more extreme than any of mine. What is it with these keys and Antoninis?
BJ,
I do remember the kitchen nook with all those little tiles. I loved it. And there were 2 swinging doors - one from the kitchen to the dining room and one from the kitchen (at the side) to the front hall. Am I right?
Your description of the kitchen, as it used to be, was great, just as I remember it. Ditto for the prayer to St Anthony.
I also remember the music room at 1140. What I liked best about it were the bay windows. You could look out and see the lilac bushes, and the magnificent old Dutch Elm trees. What I liked least about it was the light fixture sticking out from the wall ( actually there were 2). The reason I dislike that fixture is that when I was about 17, I got a gorgeous camel-hair coat with a Jackie Kennedy collar ( a little stand-up collar ). I loved that coat......until one day I hung it on the light fixture and forgot it was there. When night came someone turned on the light and before very long there was a burning smell and my Jackie Kennedy coat had a hole burned right through it. I was crushed! Dad did manage to get some invisible weaving done to it, but it was never quite the same again. What a maroon I was to hang it there in the first place.

Hello all,
I have too many lost keys stories to print here, but here’s an 1140 tale.
We had a terrible storm in Regina, and the basement was flooding. I sat on the top step of the stairs to the basement and helplessly watched the water rise. I remember thinking that Dad’s cabinet of moon pictures were down there somewhere and that they would be ruined. I cringed at the thought of the clothes in the laundry room saturated with grungy moisture, and I wondered if the water would rise over and destroy the top of the pool table.
Then from out of the doorway leading to the pantry, a package of toilet paper floated out, followed by another. They were pretty water logged, and they just kept on coming. In spite of the dismal cleaning up efforts that I knew lay ahead of us, it just struck me as funny and I started to laugh. Dad had stockpiled so many rolls – I’m sure they did prevent even worse flooding, and when he submitted his insurance claim I think he was able to include them!
I know that we did have an awful time cleaning up, but for me, those rolls of toilet paper are the most memorable part of that flood – the image still makes me chuckle.

What ever happened to that Hammond Organ? It was beautiful. The Heinzman piano had a bright clean sound and the action was light as a feather and as fast as lightning.
Those were the days.

I thought I had a pretty good shot at the keys story but I don't hold a candle to "you people."
When I read Ed's, I thought, "okay, he's got this hands down." Not only does it have inconvenience and expense etraordinaire, but it was far away from home.
Then I read Sonia's. What could be more compelling than life-long trauma to children?
Oh, wait, then there's Mike. The supernatural. Demons stealing keys in the night.
I'm not worthy... I'm not worthy... some of the cousins might get that one.
I bet you were all thinking, "where the heck is Thomas?" Or, more likely, "thank God, that guy is busy."
Don't worry, I've got a whole barrage of posts coming.
The reason I've been so incommunicado is I'm covering the Ian Bush inquest (kid who was shot in the back of the head by RCMP in Houston (B.C.))
You can check out my first foray into video news at houston-today.com.
Now that I have the family tree, it's really cool to put some faces to people. More current faces to the people I know, and any face to the people I don't. What I'm surprised about is how many gaps there are in both info and photos. C'mon folks, what does it really take to send Bob (Barker) not the Price as Right guy, the real Bob Barker your pic and info.
Geez, you're on the Internet blogging for hours anyway, send him a frikkin' email!
Kudos to those already accounted for.
1665
Sorry, that should have been 1666, making this 1667.
I remember the organ room at 1140. It was magical. I too was fascinated by those bay windows and, more importantly, the steps under them. That was a magical place under those steps.
BJ said something about 'where the sinks are NOW in the kitchen.
Not that I would ever contradict my mom, heaven no, but I am curious how she would know what the configuration is now. Furthermore, I would submit if those sinks are still there, they are probably being used for crystal meth production.
Anyone been in that neighbourhood recently?
I stand corrected. (Darn reporters). I should have said where the sinks were when most of us were living there.
But the story that really touched me was the one about Mary-Ellen's coat hanging on the light bulb. There should be a song about it.
Love, BJ
1668
Hey Thom,
You'll be happy to know that even in the midst of what is now known as 'the hood', 1140 stands its ground, and I doubt that anyone living there is into drug production.
The windows are barred (Mary Ellen would never be able to 'retrieve her lost roll of toilet paper' off the back roof), the exterior kept understated to avoid tempting those bent on vandalism, and a big BEWARE OF DOG sign graces the front window, but I've spoken with the man who owns it - he's a local pastor - and it sounds like he is taking very good care of it. He told me that his wife has built a candle garden in the old fireplace, and they both love the dark marble that we all have such fond memories of. He told me that we are welcome to tour the house, so while you're in town, you may want to give him a call. You can find the listing in the Regina phonebook under - get this - Father's House.
Thérèse - 1669
Good Day,
I slipped up...the little calendar Deanie made me for Christmas one year is being neglected and I missed Amy's birthday on the 5th and Marie's birthday yesterday the 6th, today is Christine Rathwell's birthday so I'll say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all you girls.
When Deanie and I moved to Regina from Calgary (bucking the trend) we were looking for a place in the north west. It was Marie who told Deanie about the house we are in right now. Often when I'm enjoying this house I think of Marie and send her my thanks.
Thanks again Marie, this house is great.
Ed 1670
Hi All,
I echo Ed's birthday wishes to Amy, Marie, & Christine. What a neat story about Marie telling you about your house. It is a great house and the flooring is fabulous ( an artist must have designed the hardwood ). The welcome you receive there and the serene atmosphere that fills the home are also fabulous!! Thanks Ed & Dean!
Therese, thanks for the up-date on what's going on at 1140. It's good to know that FATHER's HOUSE is in such good hands.
BJ, Thank you for your empathy! If there is a song about my hole-y coat, it would have to be a real tear-jerker. I DID cry over that incident and now that I can laugh about it, I realize I may be growing up!
Thom, I have read & keep reading your new articles - love the way you write - Now, I must go check out your video news. I'll be back.

The Maroon (sung to the tune of The Gambler in tribute to ME and her coat)
On a cool prairie evening,
In a big house on Garnet,
A coat was softly hangin’
On a fixture on the wall.
And as night came darkly creepin’
Someone thought to turn the light on
And the camel-hair got burnin’
And the tears began to fall.
You gotta know where it’s hot girl
Know where it’s not girl
Know where to hang your coat,
Or take the blame.
You never leave your treasures
Where the heat will do some damage
Though they’ll try to get it mended,
It just won’t be quite the same.

Truly a horrific story, which, by the way, I have now been covering for almost my entire career (20 months). And it's not over yet. The inquest ended today, but there's still a civil suit and potentially a public inquiry.

Mike - we've already called him on the golf course and he's stumped. Yes we had the same 3 as you solved. We're now sifting through a Regina Beach history book online that is 400some pages. We've read about "Antonini boys" building steps to Little Beach and building a treehouse with the Mays, but no ONE word that has all the letters in that last jumble!
trish - we would of never got it, i phoned tony, and heres the answer
dadopekile - cousins - dave, don, penny, kim and lee
1697
ed was that macdougall's cottage name? Mom was sure that's what it would be but didn't know the name....AAAAGHH back to my day!
By the way, the online book I found is called Right to the Point and you can find it at http://www.ourroots.ca/e/page.aspx?id=1021385
It's a pretty amazing history account!
1698
thks for the source of the book, trish, that mom of yours is pretty smart, i did'nt have a clue, thought it was the name of a old gas station or something like that.
1699
Yes. The MacDougalls took the first two letters of their kids names and came up with Dadopekile, it was the name of their cabin.
I'm claiming 1700 for Melissa
Seeing as some of you have access to the online version of mom's hard cover book RIGHT TO THE POINT I have a little quiz for you.
At the present site of Regina Beach what name was the point long known as?
These names could all be found in one place...Clover,Tampa, Lepine,Pinto, Bush, Hoodoo, Windy, Wee Joe and Antler...where?
What did the Pavillion, Terrace and Ark have in common?
What sat on the northwest corner of Fairchild and Main Street?
Later
Ed 1701
Hi Ed was the point Kanookama
and did the terrace pavilion and ark all float.
one other thing. I was installing some plywood subfloor today and did you know that you might be an Antonini if your trying to shave a quarter inch off a sheet of plywood and it comes off your finger instead.
Was the corner of fairchild and main the red and white store or later the corner cupboard (i dont think i spellt it right)
Anyone going to the game tomorrow?
So in keeping with Ed's homage to Janis Joplin:
Write Another Little Blog (sung to the tune of Take Another Little Piece)
Doesn't it make us feel
Like we are the closest clan?
And don't the games we play here
Challenge us like nothing else can
And each time I find myself
Returning to the trail
Someone's blogged a tribute
Or remembered some old tale
Why don't you just come on, come on, come on, come on
Take it
Take another little piece of my heart now won't you
Write it
Write another little story that makes the laughter ring
Rhyme it
Rhyme another little riddle for Antonini guessing,
You know we'll get it
And it makes us feel good
Rob - I think they not only floated, I think they were floating dance halls that people would ride a midnight train from Regina to attend.
By the way, Thom, if anyone is planning on going to the game tomorrow, I hope you've got your tickets by no - by yesterday afternoon 24,000 had already been sold. I sure wish Dad and I were two of those.

From the extensive review of the book that I did early this morning trying to solve your other clues,
The point was long known as "Kane's Point"
All those names (Wee Joe, etc.)listed are golf holes on the Regina Beach Golf Course.
The Ark, Terrace and Pavillion were all dance halls
Korner Kubbard was on the northwest corner of Fairchild and Main
1708
Hi Tricia,
Good work on your research, I don't know if the on-line book is the same page numbering as the hard cover but Lou might be interested in an article by George May on page 366. He mentions building a tree house with the Antoninis and Larimers. I remember the tree house but I don't remember building it, it must have been T-bone and Lou that helped him.

Thomas, we didn't get to watch the game, but we certainly heard it - we had supper at Jamie's parents' house which is right across the street from Taylor Field (on the corner of 9th & Athol). We didn't have the radio on, but we certainly knew when the we scored a touchdown (or got a penalty!); fine by me, since I must be a visual person and have a hard time following the game when I can't see it. Tonight we were able to get out of the neighborhood before the game ended (otherwise we are stranded there until the traffic and pedestrians are gone) but the fans usually give us a good idea of how the game went. If we lose badly, the fans start trickling out early on and are pretty quiet, but if we win it can get a little wild!
Took Ellie up today to visit Grandma - she sure perks up when she sees the kids! Anyways, she is looking great and said she was feeling pretty good. The hospital food wasn't appealing to her much, but you should have seen the look on her face when she opened the lid of her orange sherbet! I think I know where I get my love of sweets from! She sure gets a lot of comments on her hair (hasn't anyone seen a 89-year-old redhead before?!), so I think I'm going to take her picture to my hairdresser and get my hair dyed "Antonini red" for the reunion, just so I can fit in!
Jimmer, final score was 49-8. Kicked some Burris butt, woo hoo!

I notice they're now calling Taylor Field Mosaic Field. Such a shame, I think it's just about the last stadium in the Universe to succumb to the corporate influence.
grandma went home from the hospital monday afternoon, she looks great, but is very tired.
thomas - grandma is out of rosarys right now, but maybe can make one when she's feeling better. she wishes she had one to give lorraine right now.
love uncle mike
Thanks Uncle Mike, that's wonderful news that Grandma is home.
Don't let her make a rosary if she's not up to it, I just thought if she had one... not a big deal.
Btw, what the heck is going on? Luce leaves the blog and it just disintegrates? Pick up the ball folks!
Wow - the blog did slow down. I am guilty as charged.... but have a great excuse (i always come up with great excuses).
As some of you may know I have this lawn.....kidding. Seriously now - Cory came into town on Thursday and brought with him his lovely girlfriend Amy, whom some met at Dustin and Kelly's wedding reception on Saturday night. She is really nice - she didn't leave after we bombarded her at the airport - she has put up with Dustin and Keenan this long, I think she fits in just great!
On Sunday we went out to Butler's (we barely waited for our food - and it was very good!)
So to make a long story short - we have been busy EATING. Then we are too full to sit up and use the computer. And when I try to use the laptop when I am laying down, my shoulder gets sore and my hand falls asleep. That makes it painful to bring my hand up to my mouth to EAT SOME MORE.
Great job on the songs - I can't sing, rhyme, or spell rhyme obviously.
Later!

b.j - awsome sighting on the blog mural in the barker bugle, i think i'll be framing that little beauty.
sonia - if you prop your shoulders up with pillows your hands don't fall asleep
welcome jimmer to the blog(is this jamie gustafson?) i've never heard him called jimmer before
lucy, where are you, we miss you, we need you, we love lucy.
taxi!!!!
Hi Guys
Okay. I finally got a moment to sit down and write something...
Gotta go. See ya after Stampede.
Marty Robbins
Mary-Ellen reports that Mom (Grandma) had a very good night last night, slept through and was looking good this morning. She continues to improve and we are happy to hear about her progress.
Marty,
Lucy is in transit again. She was in England for a visit and will be returning to Scotland today, then on to Regina, arriving there on Friday.
Mary-Ellen is in Regina looking after Mom. Vic has left for an Alaskan cruise. Marcia is in San Antonio. Chris and Therese leave tomorrow for the same. So it's a good thing the younger crowd is keeping this blog alive. Thank goodness for Sonia, Holly, Heather, Tricia and Thomas. Recruiting other cousins and youngsters!!
Love, BJ
I'm between jobs so I have a little time to throw a puzzle at you guys, maybe even get Lou back on the blog.
Three Alberta drovers met on the highway and proceeded to dicker as follows.
Says hank to Jim: " I'll give you six pigs for a hoss; then you'll have twice as many critters in your droves as I will have in mine."
Says Duke to Hank:"I'll give you fourteen sheep for a hoss; then you'll have three times as many critters as I."
Says Jim to Duke: " I'll give you four cows for a hoss; then you'll have six times as many critters as I."
From these interesting facts can you tell just how many animals were in each of the three droves?
Yes indeed, Mom is back at her suite. Deanie and I had a good visit with her last night and had the added pleasure of the company of Therese, her daughter Christine and Mary-Ellen.
We expect Louise late Friday evening and her taxi will be waiting for her. Mary-Ellen is staying Saturday to help Louise get used to Saskatchewan time.
Heather ssasys i shouild lerarn how tiotype preperly. So here i am ;practidcing. I have my fingers where they are supposed to be its just a ,Mattwer of rtim,we before i",m tyoping at huge rates if words per minute.

Lucy here,
David and I have arrived back in St. Andrews after a terrific week in England. We had stops in the Lake District, the Cotswolds, West Sussex and Dorset.
Now, I must turn my attention to preparing for Friday's flight to Canada, destination Regina, via Calgary. I leave here 2:00 pm and I will be in Regina before midnight. How's that for rapid transit?
I won't be blogging for long but here's a riddle, for old times' sake:
A HORN THAT'S NOT A HORN AT ALL,
AND YET, IT MAKES A MONTHLY CALL!
Glad to be back on the blog,
Lucy (#1728)
Thom ...David and I visited Houston-today.com and watched your video report. Like Mary-Ellen, we felt proud of the integrity with which you reported the news and the intensity with which you presented it. No wonder you have earned so much recognition in your field of work.
I think we can assume from some of your blog remarks that your dad has sent you the Antonini family tree. Your plug for pictures and accurate details may help to make it an even better resource than it has already been so far. I wouldn't be without it myself and I can hardly wait to see the picture version displayed at our August gathering.
I just happen to have one of Grandma's rosaries here that she allowed me to choose as an extra a while back. I'll take it to Regina with me and ask her if she would like to have it back for someone else in the family who may not yet have one. (hint, hint, wink, wink).
Keep up those reports and don't stop blogging either.
Luce (#1729)
Lucy!!
WELCOME BACK. Have we ever missed you. I really think you should have a lap-top so you could take it with you wherever you go and you could be with us all the time.
Safe trip to Regina.
Love, BJ
1730
Ed,
I will watch for my midnight taxi when I land on Saskatchewan soil on Friday night. Thank you!
Heather's right! persevere at typing with your hands in the correct position. We will decipher what you have to say until you get the hang of it. You won't hear our laughter on the blog.
Will algebra be any help in solving your latest puzzle? I'm already trying to set up the equations. Where's Lou?
I don't think anyone is ever going to top your story about locking the keys in the car on your 25th wedding anniversary. However, I am amazed at how many of us, including myself, have locked ourselves out of our vehicles. Is this trait; is it in our genes? Yikes!
Love, Lucy (#1731)
Welcome Back Louise,
Like old times I will answer your riddle with "The Barker bugle".
Your taxi is waiting.
1732
Wouldn't that be a dream for Lucy to have a laptop. I would have to change the title of the blog to LUCY'S LAUNCH just because it's her who gets it going everyday.

welcome back lucy, i'm working on getting an old laptop for you, the gov'nt replaces new ones for old ones all the time and theres a fellow who cleans them up and sells them cheap, so i'll keep you posted
good guess on the latest riddle ed, i was thinking what the heck could it be, and this is right after i had recieved my latest barker bugle in the mail.
mike
lucys back, the blog is humming again
1736
Oh, yes, Ed,
I just had to get the Barker Bugle in today. Our June 2007 arrived in this morning's mail and it is a gem.
Every month, Betty Jo sends us the latest issue of the Barker Bugle. She has been doing this for years. We are up to Issue 6 of Volume 14 and some of us, including ourselves, have kept copies from Day 1.
This time BJ has outdone herself. The final page is entitled "Sightings on the Blog". It is a keeper. In fact, those who don't regularly receive the Bugle will definitely want a copy of this final page for framing.
Betty Jo what are you going to do about that? Can we have extras on hand at the reunion? This is an outstanding kaleidoscope of blog bits and bytes.
A regular feature of the Bugle includes the latest stamp issue by Canada Post. The stamp itself brings the Bugle to us and its explanation is featured in the monthly publication.
Betty Jo, we may not always acknowledge your Bugle contact with us but today we dedicate blog entry 1733 to you.
Who is ready for this one?
THIS PRAYER IS NEVER FULLY SAID
UNTIL YOU'VE GONE FROM A TO Zed.
LOLOL, Lucy (#1737)
Oops BJ, That dedication is 1737. At least I should get that much right to honour your cut-and-paste masterpiece!
Luv, Lucy (#1738)
Mike,
Don't we know who was our "influential energy conservationist"? Nobody has answered your question because the answer is obvious. Dad often urged us to remember to turn out the lights whenever we left a room. Wouldn't Mary-Ellen have been much happier if someone had heeded Dad's environmentally friendly advice so many years ago?
Lucy (#1739)
HAHAHAHA, as soon as I saw there were 13 new comments in the last hour, I thought Luce must be back.
Welcome back!
Lucy,
It is easy to print up copies of "Sightings". I will bring a pile of them to the August reunion.
BJ
Oops. Forgot. That was 1740. This is 1741
BJ
oops--1743.
Hey, how do you get a subscription to this Barker Bugle publication?
Thanks Thom
It's good to be back. We didn't see a computer in our travels though we tried to convince relatives that they would love the Internet. This technology is scary for people who are just a few years ahead of us on life's journey. Thank goodness for youth - even at 65!
I was afraid that I might just up the subscription list on BJ's Barker Bugle. Thom, you should definitely be on the list - contact your mother. So far, it's free - like the Winnipeg Free Express - eh, Vic?
Oh, yes, BJ, bring extra copies of that page with you! It's a keeper!
Luv, Luce (#1745)
Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm not on the list. I wonder if BJ would be interested in putting up an electronic edition now that the print edition is published?
I've got to go to a (yawn) Town council meeting. Promises to be as exciting as watching a beard grow.
Blog atcha later.
Ed, keep at it, typing is really not that hard once you get the hang of it. Then again, I do it about four hours a day. I could probably have a fallback career as a secretary (and make more money).
Thom ... you are away ahead of the rest of us but I'm sure that your mom is going to be able to send you the electronic edition of the Barker Bugle. That's the privilege of being the son of the publisher. You lucky guy! Wait until you see what she has done on page 4 of the latest edition.
Mike ... for some time now, I have been telling David that I need a lap top of my own. He and I are sharing the computer here in St. Andrews and sometimes we have to be very patient with one another when one or the other of us wants to get on line. This is a whole new arena of marital arts or is that martial arts?
Are you really looking into the possibility that I might have a computer to use in Regina. Oh, happy day!
LOLOL, Lucy (#1748)
Ok, I don't know what's going on here! I kept checking to see if there were any posts but didn't see the number rising - it must have been rising by the 10's so I didn't notice!
And I somehow posted with Jamie's username (Jimmer) - I have no idea how I did that either. Anyways, I am the one who is dying my hair Antonini red, not him!
Now I have to catch up on all the blogs I have missed! See you in a couple of hours!
Ok, that didn't take too long (especially considering I forgot to send the first message while I was catching up).
Just wanted to say that I took Eddie and Ellie up to see Grandma tonight after a walk to the mall (for those of you who haven't been to our new house, it is on Westfield about a block west from Grandma's tower). Auntie Louise, if the laptop doesn't work out you can always pop in daily for a blog fix! We would love it! Anyways, Grandma's doing great - Auntie Mary Ellen says she was playing the piano earler today! I left my bracelet with her because she liked it so much - it's a beaded bracelet with miniature pictures of various saints, though a few we weren't sure of!
That's it - just thought I'd share the news because I know everyone likes to hear how she's doing!
Thanks Cousin Holly, and everyone, for the Grandma updates. Have I mentioned recently that I was the first. No credit to myself (or fault, for that matter) but I was.
This family tree thing is the bomb! Now when Holly drops a comment like 'I took Eddie and Ellie up to see Grandma' I can look at it and say, ahah, Eddie and Ellie are my first cousins once removed. I can even see their cute little faces and know that one is five-and-a-half and the other is going to be a year old in August (too bad not everyone has passed along their pics and vitals to my dad, hint, hint again) and that they are second cousins to my two brats... er, I mean wonderful sons.
It also allows me to know that I have a "first cousin-in-law," who goes by a nickname of his middle name and by Jimmer online, who appears to be a pretty lucky guy.
Turns out you're right, Luce, I do have some pull with the publisher of Barker Bugle and now that back page is posted on Barking at the Big Blog for any others who aren't fortunate enough to have a subscription to see.
Of course, mailing out hard copies of that esteemed paper is all part of my mom's single-handed campaign to keep Canada Post in business. I don't know what the heck they would do without her. They don't deserve her.
Re: Barker Bugle Page 4: Sightings on the Blog. You'll have to click on the image to open a new window and see it properly.
Luce was right again. It's a keeper! Good job, BJ (Mom).
Sigh, I guess it's that time of night when I'm all alone on the blog again and time to pack it in. So I'll leave you all with this:
Sung to the tune of Willie Nelson's On the Road Again
(Btw, Marty, I'm working on a blog version of El Paso in honour of your Marty Robbins reference.
On the blog again
Just can't wait to get on the blog again
The life I life is writing comments with my kin
And I just can't wait to get on the blog again
On the blog again
Meeting cousins that I've never seen
Reading posts that I may never read again
Oh, I can't wait to get on the blog again
On the blog again
Like a band of Antoninis we go down the info highway
We're the best of kin
Insisting that the world is going our way
And our way... is
On the blog again
Just can't wait to get on the blog again
The life I love is writing comments with my kin
And I can't wait to get on the blog again
Okay, I lied, I couldn't let it go without one more post. This one is a challenge. Oooooooooh, I know how all you bloggers love a challenge. It's actually an extension to the song challenge.
I've written the beginning to a blog version of El Paso (Marty Robbins). There are four more verses up for grab. Go for it!
Out in the etheral world of the wide web
I fell in love with a reunion blog
Nighttime would find me in Edward's Edition
Comments would fly and old mem'ries would jog
Brighter than light were the riddles of Lucy
Clever and poignant while leaving her clues
My love was deep for this reunion banter
I was in deep but outdone by her ruse
One night a bright young cousin logged on
Bright as the Regina Suh-uh-uh-un
Others were muzzled but she solved the puzzle
Of clever Aunt Lucy
The muse that I loved
So in anger I.....
For the sake of reference: #1756
Lucy here,
Mom to you, Paul ...Happy 32nd!
and Ron ...Happy 65th! (I just noticed that this time next year, you will be twice Paul's age. How's that for a bit of trying trivia?)
Anyway, Paul and Ron, this 1757th entry is dedicated to you on your shared birthday.
LOLOL, Louise
Thom ...you had just left me happily singing "On the Blog Again" to Willie Nelson's familiar melody. The words and music fit in so well with my task of unpacking from one journey while packing for another. Come Friday, I will be on the road again.
Now your latest lyrics to the tune of "El Paso" are running through my brain. I am honoured by the references to me and my riddles in the opening verses. I can hardly wait to see how your song unfolds as others take up your latest challenge. Judging from recent song postings by Therese and Ed, the remaining verses should be a lot of fun.
Too bad everyone else is sleeping right now. With your computer skills, I'm surprised that you haven't figured out how to attach a blog alarm to this family site!
By the way, BJ's "Sightings" page looks great over there on B@BB. Well done!
LOL, Luce (#1758)
Oh heck, I'll pick up from where you left off, Thom .... here goes...remember El Paso ...
So in my anger, I set up a survey,
Challenging Lucy to make first reply.
Once she did that other blog addicts followed,
Giving me answers to when?, where? and why?.
Soon my respondents outnumbered her riddlers;
Lucy and I were both drawing them in.
And I was gleaning some neat information,
Getting the lowdown on some of my kin.
This exercise is a perfect example
Of traits and talents that run through this clan.
Set forth a challenge and someone will take it,
Head high, proclaiming, "I'll do what I can!"
Just one more question seems ripe for the posing,
(Which, in this matter, goes right to the core):
How many others will write four more verses
Now that our Lucy has come through once more?
LOLOL, Louise (#1759)
You knew I'd have to try.
Two of the best have answered the challenge
What is there left for the rest of us here
Best time to try is first thing in the morning
Before my brain wakes up and starts to unclear
One verse is really not too much an effort
I'll try again before my day begins
Therese started us off with her tribute to ME
Starting a challenge where everyone wins
A few days ago Marty signed with a stage name
Thom linked it up to this so on on on ong
He challenged us all to come up with some verses
If Lucy was blogging it wouldn't be long
Oh no! my brain is starting to wake up
So little time to squeeze out one more
One, two were ok, the third was a struggle
Oh my dear Lucy, why'd you ask for four.

holly - thks for the update on grandma, and the clarification on jimmy, i was wondering why jamie would say we had supper at jamies parents house, but reading it again with you in mind and the user name blimp clears up the confusion, i actually am guilty of a similiar blunder when i logged on with lindseys name.
i love the, on the blog again song thomas (b@bigbaddog), its one of my fabvorites.
lucy i'm working on the laptop.
love mike
I knew it wouldn't be long

You guys are awesome song writers. I can hardly believe the good stuff you come up with and can hardly wait for the next one. Too bad Vic is away; I'll bet she would come up with some great stuff.
Love, BJ

Lucy here,
Very soon I will begin my journey back to Canada. This morning, I dropped in for a final visit with our next door neighbours, Peggy and Isles and their daughter, Margaret, who lives and teaches in Cupar.
For some time now, the Strachan family has been sharing the building excitement of our upcoming reunion. It was Peggy who made me the pewter LUCY brooch that I will wear at our August gathering.
Today Margaret presented me with a small envelope marked "For Lucy to take to the reunion, with love". Enclosed is a cross-stitched card with a bold pink and blue 90 on the front. Inside the card is the explanation that the 9 is stitched in 7 shades of pink for seven sisters and the 0 in 7 shades of blue for 7 brothers. ... "Handmade specially for you by Margaret S"
The greeting reads:
"The Antonini Clan
Reunion 2007
This card comes with Lucy to bring greetings from Cupar and St. Andrews"
Of course, you'll get to see the gift for yourselves when we meet in Regina next month. Peggy, Isles and Margaret are like family to us here in Scotland. This card will make them present to us in Regina as we celebrate in joy and love.
...In so many delightful ways, the excitement continues to grow.
Lots of love, Louise (#1764)
Mike ...I have to agree. That "On the blog again" song just keeps comin' back into my head. When I click on Ed's Edition, I hum the familiar tune once more.
However, I'm hoping that it won't keep running through my brain when I log off and try to go to sleep in the next few minutes.
You have me worried, Mike. Will I know how to operate a lap top if you are able to locate one for me to use? I am a creature of habit and I don't catch on to new stuff as quickly as I used to.
Good night, now!
Lucy (1765)
Holly ...thank you for offering me time on your computer. I hope it is a fool-proof model 'cause I am a bit of a disaster when it comes to adapting to unfamiliar technology.
Therese ...that song you posted about Mary-Ellen's coat is so funny and clever. The Gambler tune is another one of those catchy, can't-get-it-out-of-my-mind tunes. I know that because it finally put me to sleep last night.
Ed ...morning, noon or night, your songs are a delight. Now, I'm not so sure about the puzzle concerning the animal traders. I can't seem to clear my brain of catchy tunes long enough to keep those animal numbers straight. I see that no one else has come up with a quick solution either. Where is Lou?
Ok, this really is good night, now.
Lucy (#1766)
luce - the only difference with a laptop is its not as cumbersome as a normal computor, you'll love it.
hey marty hows the calgary stampede?
as the sun sets slowly in the west, i bid you all a fine farewell.
mike
Mike - I think the Stampede is going well...tomorrow Mom, Dad and I are going to the Stampede Art Auction to see Marty in the Quick Draw competition and see the auction that he has a painting in. It's a pretty prestigous event with only selected artists invited - some items go for $20 or $30 thousand! I'll report back on how it goes!
Holly - thanks for the update on Grandma. I love that she was playing the piano...she's getting ready for the reunion!
Louise - I was suprised to see Cupar on your post! Mom lived on a farm close to there when she was really little - of course that's Cupar, Saskatchewan.
Thomas I think you asked ages ago about the drive from Calgary to Regina - it's about 6 hours 45 minutes.
BJ and Bob - I love the family tree! EVERYONE must send their pictures to make it complete, as I am relying on it for August. SEND them now! Stop blogging and upload pictures NOW!
I don't think I can do a song on the spot...but I've been humming all of the ones I've read continually!
1769
Thanks Trish, it's about 14 hours from here to Calgary, so it looks like I'll probably have to camp somewhere between Jasper and Banff on Thursday night.
I wonder if Mike knows 1777 is coming up coming up in five posts.
Lucy here,
I have spent most of my morning packing for tomorrow's international flight to Calgary on Globespan. Once there, I will change planes for my short flight to Regina where Ed says my taxi will be waiting. We all know what that means, don't we? Thanks, Ed, for providing that personal transfer service, even at midnight's approach.
Regina, here I come!
LOL, Lucy (#1772)
Lucy, again,
I can't very well leave an unsolved riddle out here in blogland, not knowing when I will be back again.
35 entries ago I wrote that "This prayer is never fully said until you've gone from A to Zed." Of course, I am referring to Mom's "alphabet of thanks". You might say that it's a prayer version of a gratitude journal.
If troubles are getting you down or a bit of negativity is creeping in, this prayer can really turn things around for you. You simply say, "Today I give thanks for..." then starting with A and moving through the alphabet to the letter Z, you shift your focus to at least 26 reasons you have for being grateful in the present moment.
For example, I might pray: Today I give thanks for:
Answering my own riddle;
Bugle Sightings on the Blog;
Cupar cross-stitch;
David;
Evening entries to read on rising;
Friends to send me on my way;
Globespan;
Homeward highways;
Ideas to share;
July 13th;
Kites over West Sands;
LUCY pin in pewter;
Mom recovering at home;
Nicknames;
Oranges;
Puzzle book and pen in my flight bag;
Quotes of the day;
Rice Krispie Cake;
Songs with new lyrics;
Taxi waiting;
Used laptop possibilities;
Vic's unsolved POW's for inflight occupation;
Warm weather;
Xtra-special nieces on the blog;
Year 90 and
Zany stories for lots of laughs.
Amen!
With so much for me to appreciate, I feel blessed even in the midst of life's daily challenges.
Eighteen hours from my departure time, I don't dare post another riddle. My half-packed suitcase awaits me.
Lots of love, Louise (#1773)
Spectacular, Lucy! I love alphabets of all sorts and this was one of the best. I will do one for myself.
Safe journey for you and David. I can hardly wait to see you in Regina.
Thanks for the boost to the family tree, Tricia. These are the families we have so far:
BJ and Bob
Lucy and David
Mary-Ellen and Bob
Marie and Lui
Dean and Edward
Marcia and Dennis
Christine and Ron
The pictures can be sent by either email or snail mail. They can be group or individual as long as the faces are not too small or indistinct.
Pictures do not need to be sent if you prefer to not have photo ID on the tree.
Love, BJ
