August 1

A little birdie in a tree tells me this is a double anniversary day. Happy Anniversary to Chris and Ron and Happy Anniversary to Louise and David. This is also the anniversary month of our family reunion. Hope you can all make it again on the 27th.

WOW!!!

What can I say as I smile through my tears?
I've not had a birthday like this one in years!

From KENNETH a song and a wish on the run...

A rainbow from VIC, sending "oodles" of fun...

A puzzle from BJ that spelled out my name...

And MARCIA's greeting accomplished the same...

T'was followed by MARTY, who made the "S" swell...

And BOB's kind remarks prove he knows me quite well...

From EDWARD, a poem, (though he doesn't think so)...

From MICHELE, distant wishes that make my heart glow...

From LOU, such a tribute! and praise for the blog...

Warm greetings from THERESE, given reason to log...

There's HOLLY's reminder of our special tie
A god-daughter's wish brought a tear to my eye...

And SONIA's kind words make me glad I'm her aunt...

The "jolly good blogger" is THOM's clever slant...

MARY ELLEN logged twice with bright thoughts for the day;
(That smart Dr. Seuss has some nice things to say)...

Quick wishes from ROBERT and MIKE caught my eye...

In a bit of confusion, nephew STEPHEN dropped by...

And BARBARA sent hugs, as she's apt to do...

To each and to all, here's my birthday THANK YOU!

Lots of love,
Louise aka Lucy

Happy Anniversary, Christine and Ron!

As David and I celebrate our 38th anniversary today, we raise a toast you on your 21st.

Sharing this occasion with you always makes it a double delight for us. You'll notice that we even got special mention in Ed's August 1st posting.

Wherever you are in your travels on this August 1st, we wish you sunshine, safety and happiness all along the way. Cheers!

Lots of love, Louise and David

Well, we are heading into the long weekend here in BC.

Tomorrow morning we will drive to Radium Hot Springs where we have rented a condo. Paul, David and John will play Radium on Saturday, Grey Wolf on Sunday and Fairmont on Monday. I will relax, relax, relax.

I don't think we will have access to the Internet while we are away. If by chance we do, I'll check in on the blog; if not, we'll see you on Tuesday morning.
Cheers! Have a great weekend.

Love, Lucy

Anniversary Greetings and Best Wishes Marie and Lou

Our message is coming to you from Radium Hot Springs where we have managed to find Internet Access in a hotel lobby.

Today we are celebrating your 40th Anniversary with a toast to you and your inspirational family, so tightly linked by sacrifice and love.

To LIFE, then, past, present and future ....just for today.

Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David

Imagine this...

What are the chances that Vic, Don, Michele and Brian would be fueling up at the Esso Station in Radium Hot Springs on their way to Fairmont at the same time that I was droppin in to buy postcards?

Honestly!

BJ said...

Dear Lucy,

The chances of such a fortunate, unexpected, accidental meeting is very good on Serendipity Sunday.

Imagine Vic & Louise meeting accidentally in Radium Hot Springs!! Coincidence??? I think not!
Louise, coming from Scotland, and Vic, coming from Saskatchewan - and they are both, at the exact same moment, in the exact same place, which is neither Scotland or Saskatchewan. Unfiggin-believable!!

Bonjour tout le monde de Trois-Rivières!

We're almost finished the first leg of our vacation and will be heading back to Ottawa tomorrow.

I sure had fun catching up on the blog, reading all the birthday wishes and Louise's summarhyme.

And what are the chances Louise and Vic would both be at a gas station in Radium Hot Springs at the same time? That's easy. Given the number of places Louise could have been and the number of places Vic could have been, the population of Radium Hot Springs and the amount of time it takes to fill the tank, the chances are roughly 3 in 2,787,144,000 (or one-in-a-billion).

(P.S. Did you know you can make up any old crap if you tell it with conviction?).

Hey,
I just realized that Ed has mentioned that the Blog Reunion is on the 27th(Lui's birthday). However, I have marked the 24th on my calendar. Which is it - the 24th or 27th? It's important for me to know, because I'll be away on the 24th, but I may be back by the 27th, and I sure don't want to miss anything! Let me know, anyone!

Kenneth,
This aunt of yours ( who thinks you're a bit of a genius) ABSOLUTELY believes in your 3 in 2,787,144,000 chances. I have no doubt that your calculations are an exact science! Thanks!

LOL,
ME xoxoxo

BJ said...

Mary Ellen,
Thanks for asking the reunion question. I also had Aug 24 marked on my calendar. I will watch to see what Ed's answer is.

Happy Anniversary, Dana and Brandon!

We see that you are celebrating three years of marriage today. We hope you are able to find a bit of "couple" time to mark this special occasion. Parents of twin two-year-olds cannot possibly have many minutes to spare on any given day.

Still, your boys, Jack and Davis must be the greatest gifts of your married life. We toast you and them on this day of celebration. Here's to your good health and to many more years of family happiness.

Cheers, best wishes and lots of love,
Louise and David

BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETINGS!

Lorraine, we remembered your son, Brandon Mazerall yesterday on his 19th birthday. While we are travelling, it is not very easy to access the Internet but we can always raise our glasses high in a toast to someone special.

So, belated August 5th Birthday wishes to you, Brandon! At 19, you have all of life ahead of you. We hope it's a good one, and that the coming year is a particularly happy time for you.

Here's to you!
Louise and David

Well, Kenneth, I knew the odds were high and, I must say that I felt like I'd hit the jackpot when I ran into Vic, Don, Michele and Brian in Radium Hot Springs. I walked home on a cloud that afternoon.

On Monday, August 4, Dave, Paul and John played a round of golf at Fairmont Hot Springs with Don while I visited with Vic and Michele. That day has already been entered in my diary as a highlight of our Canadian holiday. What an unexpected treat it was!

We are back in Westbank now. Things are heating up at 32C. We intend to visit a vineyard and winery this afternoon. Good choice, eh?

LOL, Lucy
PS: My calendar is also marked August 24 - Reunion Day.

b@bigdog said...

Luce, I have forwarded your birthday greetings to Brandon (along with the blog address)

Don't know if he'll ever check it out, but you never know

Also Happy Anniversay to you and David, Marie and Lou, Christine and Ron, Dana and Brandon... if I've missed anyone... oh well... I have a hard enough time remembering my own birthday (and we don't have enough wall space to put up the family tree, hahahahahaha)

Thanks so much for the birthday greeting, I will show him the blog when I get home!! You set me into panic when I saw 13.... i had to quickly do some math and figure out if I had skipped a year... He was born in 1996.... whew - he is still 12...

He has football practice tonight....so I will take some popsicles (no cupcakes...!!) out tonight for an 'after practice' celebration!!!

Louise and David said...

OOooops, sorry Jacob!
My day book shows the year of your birth as 1995; I have now made the correction. I will have to write you a new "teenage" poem next year. Anyway, have a great day on what is just the beginning of your thirteenth year!

Sonia, sorry about the panic ... good call on the popsicles!

This first full day of action at the Olympics has certainly had lots of TV coverage; China has come out on top with two gold medals. I guess that's as it should be.

The US Open has not been nearly as exciting but tomorrow will be packed full of action if the leaders actually get to play the 36 holes that remain to complete the event.

Here in Westbank, Paul, David and John are playing their own golf events at the Summerland Course today and The Bear tomorrow.

So, we enter the double-digits in August and time flies by all too quickly.

Happy holidays!
Lucy

Louise and David said...

Our last week in Westbank is underway. Tomorrow David is going to put a new roof on the shed in Paul's back yard. Today we looked up an old friend and working buddy from the Yukon - Jock Paterson. At 89, he remembered us and appreciated the reconnection after 15 years.

Some of you may know the story of my Yukon friend, Marge Paterson, leaving me her gold nugget necklace and earrings in her will when she died in March 1994. As it happens, I was wearing her jewellery when we met her husband, Jock today. There were tears all around.

This Canadian holiday is turning out to be one of multiple highlights to be remembered and cherished when we return to Scotland on September 4.

Lots of love,
Lucy

BJ said...

Lucy,
What a great holiday you and Dave are having. I think lots of others must be away as well.
Stephen and Mona went east for two weeks, saw parts of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Cape Breton.
Kenneth and Johanne were here for a week and went back to Texas yesterday.
Louise and Steve have been day-tripping on their motorcycles.
Thomas and Lorraine went west to BC.
We are staying put this summer and would like to hear what others have been doing.
Love, BJ

Louise and David said...

Hi BJ
I hope you are right about others being away on holiday. Summer is such a nice time for taking it easy and enjoying the warm weather.

Stephen and Mona's trip to the east coast reminds me that we must do that ourselves someday. Imagine being born in Canada and not ever seeing parts of four of its most impressive provinces!

I'm glad that Kenneth and Johanne were able to spend a week in Ottawa before returning to Texas. I have to think that Kenneth will be glad to be back at the keys of his very own piano.

On two Harley-Davidsons, Louise and Steve must be making quite an impression on their day-trips around and about the country. The pictures Bob posted a while back create a sporty image for us, too.

As you know, we were lucky enough to spend time with Thom and Lorraine on their Calgary stopover enroute to Saskatchewan from BC. They looked great, new haircuts and all.

"Staying put" has its own charm when it comes to holiday time. Enjoy your home and garden all summer long!

Today is a work day for David. It's going to be a scorcher. I intend to watch Olympic coverage in the cool of Paul's air-conditioned home here in Westbank.

Lots of love,
Lucy

BJ said...

Hi Lucy,
We are watching quite a bit of the Olympics as well. Some of the Olympian feats are kind of unbelievable. I am so hoping Michael Phelps will be able to stay the course and win his 8 gold medals, but can he hold up for seventeen turns in the pool? That is what they figure he will have to do with all the heats and semi-finals etc.(and that doesn't include practicing).
Do you know where Don and Vic were going after Fairmont? I thought they were staying there for two weeks.
Enjoy your air conditioned place. After all the hot weather you've had you deserve some relief.
Love, BJ

Louise and David said...

Hi BJ,
Yes, Vic and Don were staying at Fairmont Hot Springs for a second week with Penny, Michael, Logan and Geron. They arranged different accommodations, though, (up behind the time-share complex) so that the whole family could vacation together.

Don has his cell with him if you are trying to contact Vic. I even have that number if you need it.
Love, Lucy

BJ said...

Thanks, Lucy.
I don't need Don's number. I just wondered where they were. BJ

Happy Birthday, Bob!

It seems to us that 70
Deserves a birthday rhyme!
As you start another decade
May this be a special time...

May it be a time of leisure,
Laughter, learning and of life;
May it be an age of fitness,
And a time unmarred by strife.

Spend this day of celebration
On the things you do so well.
May your age be but a measure
Of the ways that you excel!

Lots of love and best wishes,
Louise and David

Many thanks for the birthday wishes.  I have a feeling that turning seventy should be something really special, more special than 69, for example, or 71.  But, somehow it is not.  I feel just as good today as I did yesterday when I was only 69.  Maybe I'll still feel that way in 365 - I can hope can't I?Anyway, thanks again.

Happy Birthday Dad. Would have called, but ended up spending most of the day at the Regina Hospital. Everything turned out okay, but got back late.

I remember you saying years ago something along the line that, aside from a few things your body does to let you down, it just keeps getting better. I'm starting to relate and I hope you still feel that way now that you're 70.

Cheers, talk to you tomorrow.

We hope your 49th birthday marks the end of another good year for you AND the beginning of an especially promising one on your way to the half-century mark. Whatever you have planned, just be sure to enjoy your special day!

Okay, I'm going to try one more time to organize a summer gathering at our fabulous place on the lake.

Did I mention we are right on beautiful Echo Lake, just 45 minutes from Regina. We're talking swimming, canoeing, kayaking, kite-flying, barbequing etc... etc...

I'm thinking Saturday August 30, but I'd also be fine with Saturday, Sept 6 (seeing as Aug 30 is on the Labour Day weekend and y'all might already have plans). Let me know your preference.

Of course, anytime anyone wants to escape the city, feel free to give us a call (332 4556) and come on out.

Louise and David said...

Well, we are just minutes away from leaving Westbank for Calgary. We will overnight in Radium Hot Springs and plan to be in Calgary sometime Tuesday afternoon.

On Friday, the 22nd, we will head to Saskatoon where we will visit with Vic and Don until the 24th. (Yippee!) The guys will probably play a Saturday round of golf.

Len and Kelly are letting us use their cabin at Regina Beach as a base from the 24th to the 30th of August. (A special thanks for that!)

I hope to see as many of my family as possible in the short time that we will be in the Regina area. Tony, Edward, Christine, Michael, Len, Therese and Rob, I will be in touch with each of you very soon.

Thomas and Lorraine, I have made a note of your phone number. We'll keep the 30th open and could even delay our trip to Calgary by one day to join you at Echo Lake. Dave and John would also like to play a round of golf with you, Thom. We'll call you for sure.

We are booked on Zoom's September 3rd flight back to Glasgow. So far this been a packed holiday and we intend to cram in a whole lot more before we are finished.

Alberta and Saskatchewan, here we come!

Cheers,
Louise and David

This greeting is coming to you from Castlegar Airport terminal.

We were driving down the highway
When I checked our birthday book
But I had no online access
By the time I had a look.

It's the day that you turn 20
And we're stopping in to say
That we hope you're very happy
As you celebrate today.

We toast your health and talents,
Your beauty and your poise.
May the year that's just beginning
Bring you many, many joys.

WOW!

I never thought of triathlon as much of a spectator sport, but I was riveted by that men's Olympic race from the instant they hit the water. And when Simon Whitfield made his move at 600 metres to go, I bet my heart was beating as fast as his was (maybe faster, after all he is an elite athlete). I was on my feet as the hit the 200 saying "Gold Gold Gold", but when it ended up being silver it wasn't even much of a disappointment because that German guy really deserved the win.

WHAT A RACE!

b@bigdog said...

Luce, that would be great if you could make it up our way. Too bad you don't get to Regina Beach until the 24th (which is a Sunday). Lorraine and I have been intending to get out there for Fish 'n Chips, but Sunday doesn't work with her schedule. Perhaps, if Echo Lake on the 30th doesn't work for you, I could meet up with Dave and John for a round of golf in Regina. There's a couple of pretty darn fine (for the price) municipal courses there.

Anyhoo, call me when you get an opportunity.

hmmm, the blogareunionversary is coming up, i was kinda expecting a little more action during the lead up

anyhoo, great news here, i finally caught a fish (actually eight fish, one large walleye and seven small perch)

WOO HOO!

i had to ask some locals how to catch the little boogers and had to consult the Internet how to fillet the little goobers (what a mess, i know my dad taught me how to do it, but that was several decades ago and I kinda forgot), but I got 'er dun, covered them in lemon juice and cornmeal, fried 'em up in butter and it was especially sweet 'cause I caught 'em with my own two hands out of a kayak using an ice fishing pole (hahahahaha)

i'm learning some very valuable skills this summer

fishing, vegetable growing, kite-flying... hot dog!

Let's reunite to raise a toast to the wonderful days we spent together last August. Today is a time to relive the moments we enjoyed the most and to savor the memories.
As I look back on that remarkable get-together I know that it is high on my list of "things I am grateful for."
Families are strength and hope.
Happy Reunion Day, Family.

kbub said...

The reunion showed me there are friends in the family! (Who knew?) I had a lot of fun in Regina, but I'm even more grateful for the friendships that have grown out of it online.

The reunion also inspired me to start practicing the piano seriously again. Specific inspiration credit to uncles Marty and Lui. Marty makes everybody want to start practicing the piano again. And I regret disappointing Lui by not having a single piece I could play when asked.

Happy Reunioniversary Day, Blog!

Hi Reunion Blogsters,

It's very appropriate that BJ is the first on today, seeing as she is the number one sibling! Love your comments, BJ, especially that "Families are strength and hope".That's for sure!

Kenneth,
It's wonderful knowing, that somehow, last August's reunion inspired you to return to the piano. I've heard you playing and am amazed by it. Who knew that you would have that talent re-ignited by Lui & Marty? UNFRIGGIN-BELIEVABLE!

Can you believe a whole year has gone by since our 2007 Family Reunion? UNFRIGGIN- BELIEVABLE AGAIN! How quickly the time flies, but the memories linger on. I have some wonderful memories stored away, especially the fun & laughter we had last August. As Bob Hope's theme song said,"Thanks for the Memories".
You guys are the best!!!

The surprises, unexpected and unplanned events that happened during the two days.

Let's keep in touch always.
