Most of the time, I'm clear focused all around, most of the time, I can keep both feet on the ground. I can follow the path, I can read the signs, stay right with it when the road unwinds, I can handle whatever I stumble upon, I don't even notice she's gone.....most of the time.

A new month. I get to change my calendars, one of life's little pleasures. Happy February to all!
Love, BJ
BJ . . . thanks! Happy February to you, too. BTW, how many calendars do you have to change?
Ed . . . that's quite a m.o.o.ving introduction to this second month of 2009. I'd like to dedicate the whole month to Heather; even from afar, we cannot help but "notice she's gone".
Happy travels, Heather!

Groundhog Day!
It's just possible that some little creature saw its shadow on this blustery day in Scotland. It's not noon yet, and we have had everything from bright sunshine to dark clouds of hail.
Let's hope we are not going to get 6 more weeks of this stuff.
Lucy
Groundhog Day in Ottawa is one of those days that is so bright and sunny you have to close your eyes when you look out the window. Just what we need--6 more weeks of the cold and snowy winter we have had so far. How is the weather in everyone else's little corner of the world?
And to answer your question, Lucy. I have 7 calendars. One of them is a mini desk calendar from which you rip off a page each day. One is the bouquet calendar like yours and the other 5 are wall calendars. One of those is actually Bob's, but he lets me turn it each new month. (I think he forgets to turn it so I change it on the 2nd).
Love, BJ
Calgary is 0 right now and cloudy, so maybe our Groudhog won't be seeing his shadow today. So that means how many more weeks of winter for us? I know if he sees his shadow, there's 6 more weeks, but how many if he doesn't?????
Love,
ME xoxoxo
Mary Ellen,
If the day is cloudy it means winter will soon end! So if Punxsutawney Phil (US), Wiarton Willie (ON), Saskatoon Evan (SK), Brandon Bob (MB), Balzac Billy (AB) Shubenacadie Sam (NS) or Woodchuck Willie saw their shadows today we are in for a long winter.
On the other hand, what the heck do woodchucks know, anyway?
BJ
18°C and sunny in Austin right now. Six more weeks of the same would be ok.
Okay now that was just uncalled for.
I hear what you're saying, Marty!
BJ,
Thanks for the info on the groundhog NOT seeing his shadow. However, I just heard that Balzac Billy did indeed see his shadow today, so..............
Kenneth,
Enjoy 6 more weeks of your very temperate winter weather!
Love,
ME xoxoxo
Now that's long distance! We received a call from our yogi, who is enjoying her visit to Rishikish at the foothills of the Himalayas.
Love, Ed
That is impressive, Ed!
So far Heather is leaving an exciting computer trail of her travels on her Facebook page - first London, then New Delhi and now Rishikish.
She's already into her yoga, too.
Cheers, Heather!

Happy Anniversary, Johanne and Kenneth!
Nine is such a magical number - perfect in itself and in all of its combinations. My Book of Days also suggests that a 9th anniversary may be celebrated with pottery.
In keeping with the occasion we will raise two of our favorite earthenware goblets in a toast to you today.
May your anniversary day be its own exciting vessel filled with a perfect mix of great memories and awesome possibilities. Cheers!
Lots of love,
Louise and David

Thanks for the anniversary wishes! Unfortunately, the celebration will have to wait until the weekend. For now it's work work work (plus maybe a little blogreading thrown in).
You're welcome, Kenneth! As for us, we savored our special toast in honour of you and Johanne on your 9th anniversary. Cheers!

Happy Anniversary, Kelly and Tim!
February is turning out to be a good month for weddings after all. Yours is the third anniversary celebration in four days.
This morning, we join Dehlia and Piper in hoping that your Saturday celebrations are fun for all of the family.
Besides that, we toast just the two of you on this, the fifth anniversary of your marriage to one another. May the year ahead be a happy, healthy one in every way. Cheers!
Love and best wishes,
Louise and David

Hello blog. I thought some of you might be interested to know that Johanne has started a blog to talk about what she does with her art every day.
It's called "Art in the Making" and it's here:

Thanks for the link, Kenneth. I have added Johanne's blog to our list of favourite sites to visit whenever we go on line. "Art in the Making" here we come . . .
FEBRUARY 9 REMEMBRANCE
BJ ... I hope it's okay for me to borrow today's quote from your latest Barker Bugle.
"You don't have to hold on to the pain, to hold on to the memory."
... and can you believe that the MOON is FULL on this date of remembering Dad?
Love, Louise
Lucy,
Funny you should say that about the moon. I keep track of the full moon ( Marcia does too) and I thought the same--how neat that it will be full on Dad's anniversary.
Love, BJ
It's amazing how many of us think of Dad when we see the moon, especially when it's full. On Sat. night, the moon was spectacular here in Calgary, beacuse it was such a clear night. I couldn't help but say "Hi Dad," as I looked at it.
Thanks for the remembrance from the Bugle, BJ & Louise.
Love ya,
ME xoxoxoxoxo
Hello everyone,
Just thought I would give everyone an update on my Police physical from the weekend, as I know some of you were waiting to hear (Louise especially). There were 60 of us doing the exam (9 girls), I thought being an "A" would put me going in the first few, but I was actually second last. I was running for about 2 seconds when I went to do the 6ft jump, and landed on the other side and came down on ankle. I was taken to the ER, but they found only a bad sprain. When I went to my Dr today he found a few torn ligaments and I am now in a walking cast. I had done the jump many times but I think the pressure and nervous got to me. I will be able to redo the test in June after some Physio. But thanks everyone for the support.
Mom and Dad are enjoying their visit with Aunt Beryl. They have been helping her do a few things around the house and say that she is doing a bit better. I am yet to figure out how my mom keeps this house clean, every time I turn around there is another mess that has been made by a cat or kid. I do say I give my mom a lot of credit for taking care of two cats, three kids and three big kids. As for dad, well the house is falling a part; just tonight for example we had the front door break. WE MISS THEM!!!!
Love you all, Jenalee
Hi Jenalee!
What bad luck you had in the first two seconds of your Police physical exam. The good news is that you will be able to do the test again in June. In the meantime, I hope the walking cast is not too awkward and uncomfortable. BTW ... will you still be able to start classes with the police force in the spring?
We didn't know that Tony and Carol were visiting Beryl in BC. In fact, it sounds like she needs their help more than you do right now. Still, it's nice to hear that you are missing your parents and all the nice things they do for people and pets around the house. When they finally do return to Regina, you may appreciate them even more than you already do (if that's possible).
Thanks for the update! Take care of that injured ankle and stay active while it heals.
Lots of love, Louise
I will definitely be adding Johanne's blogsite to my Blogger Dashboard. After months of checking all my favourite blogs one at a time to see if there were any updates, I finally added them all to the "Blogs I'm Following" in Blogger and then check my dashboard daily for any updates. However, today I realized that I have been neglecting edsedition, because there is only one monthy update, and the comments don't show up as updates. So finally I am back catching up on some news!
This year I also started my own blogspot, though I don't know if I will be updating it as often as Johanne. It is at Gunderpond.blogspot (Gunderpond is a tribute to the very worst version of the name Gustafson that I have heard so far. I know it's a hard name to pronouce, so I'm used to Gustasson and Guftason, but Gunderpond definitely is the winner so far!). Anyways, please check it out!
Hello Louise,
Yes I am sure my aunt needs them a little more then we do. No I wont be able to start Police college now till Jan of next year, but in the mean time I have a few things I will doing with Police.
Take care Jenalee
I have a request I need your help to choose a business name for a dog training company. I have it narrowed down to 2 - Please vote
1) Ready, Set, Stay!
or
2) Back to the Basics
Thank you!
Hi Melissa,
I like "Ready, Set, Stay" the best.
Hi Jenalee,
So sorry to hear about your injury and disappointment. Heal quickly!
Hi Holly,
I'll go check out your new blog. Thanks.
Hi Louise,
Always good to see you!
Love,
ME
xoxoxoxoxo
Ready, Set, Stay!!
I agree, "Ready, Set, Stay."
Jenalee,
Sorry about the disappointment, but I know you will succeed in June, and in the meantime you will probably gain a lot of experience working with the police. Your Grandpa A. used to say that things happen for a reason, and he was so often right! Good luck and speedy healing.
Holly,
I have bookmarked your blog site so I can check it regularly. I look forward to the lilies. Love the Gunderpond name.
Lucy,
As M.E. says, always good to see you. We depend on you to keep blogging.
M.E.,
Always good to see you, too.
Love, BJ
Ok Ed what have you done with all my postings!$%@^@???
It can't be possible that my last posting was more than six months ago - July 31/08??? Foojicapesta!!
I guess that's what happens when you get old! Turned 60, the company retired me, my wife traded me in -- no, no, no fortunately the latter didn't happen.
I went back to college and went through the mortgage agent's course with a bunch of youngsters and lo and behold, the old guy topped the class!!
Anyway, I've been working to find a way to make some money - if for no other reason than to be able to go back to Maui next year!!
Even though I haven't posted for a long time I always read the blog and enjoy the comments.
And BJ, when I read your memory comment in the Bugle, I got a pain right in the middle of my chest so I don't know if I agree with you!!!
Cheers everyone!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Love, Lucy
It seems we have a bit of catching up to do. We installed a new modem and the transition did not go smoothly. Enough said!
Holly ... after a very quick visit, we added your Gunderpond blog to our list of favorites. We'll be back!
Jenalee ... I am sorry that your ankle injury means that you can't start your police course until January 2010. Still, that will be a brand new start to another year.
Melissa ... Ready, Set, Stay!
ME and BJ ... thanks for the personal greetings. Here's looking at the two of you, too!
Lui ... I enjoyed your "foojicapesta" comment. It's nice to know that you are blurking and even nicer when you are blogging. Well done on your studies!
Lucy
Here's a bit of puzzling fun.
"Roll a word"
...create a set of 4 alphabetical dice that could, when rolled, spell out each of the following words:
DUCT
FUNK
HASP
JOBS
KEPT
LAZE
MART
PIXY
SKID
TWIN
VERB
YOLK
Love, Lucy
Welcome back, Lui.
Sorry about the pain in your chest. I miss Dad too, but sort of in a good way, such as when I think "Oh, Dad would have got a kick out of that." or "Wouldn't Dad have enjoyed that?" or "Think about what Dad would do in this situation." He was a happy man who lived in the present. There is a quote in my next Bugle that fits him to a T. See if you can figure out which one it is when you receive the March Bugle.
Congratulations on your course. Doesn't surprise me a bit that you outshone the youngsters. Good skill in your new career.
And by the way what is "Foojicapesta?" I guess I'm getting old, too. I can't figure it out and even Googling it didn't help.
Lucy,
We wondered what had happened to you. Good to hear that it was only modem problems that kept you away.
All you Blurkers out there. Please, follow Lui's example and change your blurk to a blog.
Love, BJ
Hi All,
I love "Roll a Word."
Let's roll:
Using SKID as my base word, the four dice are as follows:
FSTVYZ
ABCKWX
EHIMOU
DJLNPR
The letters G and Q were not used.
Yee-Haw!

Yee-Haw! Nice work on the Roll-a-word puzzle, Mary Ellen!
In a few minutes, David and I will be leaving on a four-day bus excursion to Scotland's west coast.
We will go as far as Inverness today. Tomorrow we'll travel along the shores of Loch Ness (watching for Nessie), through Glencoe and on to Oban where we will stay for 2 days. While we are there, we hope to take ferries to the islands of Mull and Iona to do a bit of exploring. We should be back in St. Andrews on Wednesday.
So...if you don't see us on the blog for the next few days, you'll know why.
Lots of love,
Louise
I'm trying.
Hey Lou, great work on your course. I don't know how you do it. I'm 58 now and I still can't understand that Greek stuff.
See you at the reunion.
Ed
I only miss dad when I see the moon or am tying my laces which haven't come undone through millions of steps...yes, that many.
I was pretty close to him the other night when I went out to the grave yard. It was clouded over and really dark, I tripped over mom's grave and fell onto dad's. Now that I think back it's a good thing there weren't any open graves, I might still be there. I know, I know, I can get pretty stupid at times.
That was a good trip you took the other night, Edward. Sigh....
Love, BJ
Thank you everyone for your opinions the winner is Ready, Set, Stay! - now time to start the process, ready, set GO!!
Happy Birthday, Juliana,
California seems so far away from Fife, but you are certainly close to us in our thoughts today.
We hope that you have a sunny day of happy celebrations with all of your family. A mother's birthday is especially exciting for children when there are presents to be opened, candles to be lit and cake to be shared. Enjoy!
We toast you and all those who are with you as you celebrate your birthday, Juliana. Cheers!
Lots of love and warm wishes,
Louise and David
Welcome home, Heather! With the help of your yoga techniques, you'll probably adjust back to Regina time faster than most travellers might. We hope your visit to India was great in every way.
Dave and I are back in St. Andrews after a 4-day trip across to Scotland's west coast. One highlight for us was our three- hour visit to the island of Iona. Apparently, St. Columba arrived there in 563 AD and it is considered the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland. It's a remote and awesome place to explore and experience.
Modern-day pilgrims get to Iona by taking a 45 minute ferry trip from Oban to the Isle of Mull, transferring to a bus that travels for just over an hour on a single-lane road across Mull, and boarding a second ferry for a 10 minute jaunt to Iona. The return trip gives a traveller lots of time to think about life on Iona, then and now.
For now at least, these pilgrims are happy to be home again.
Love, Lucy
He's Baaack!
Tiger Woods, y'all. Making his comeback at the Accenture Match Play next week.
Woohoo!
Finally! And the world will be watching him very closely.
I am sure Heather and many others in the family know about this but I will mention it anyway, since Dad would make sure he would tell us about it.
There is a rare comet that will be visible to the naked eye this Tuesday morning before dawn. It can be seen on Feb 24 in the Southwest sky almost right beside Saturn at around 3am, Calgary time. (Check local listings for times in your area).
If you want to read about "Lulin",
an odd, greenish backward-flying comet flying by Earth toward the sun go to: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/04feb_greencomet.htm
Use your binocs. I can't wait.
And perfect timing too, just before bedtime.
Love,
Marty
Thanks for the info, Marty. Your "just before bedtime" makes it 10:00 am here in St. Andrews. I'll check to see if there is a BST prediction for viewing Lulin. If not, its story alone is awesome enough to feel the excitement.
Lucy
Hey Marty,
I go out every month to howl at the full moon, so you can bet I will be there on Tuesday. Thanks for the heads up and also the link. And...one man's bedtime is another man's rising!
Love, BJ

Very funny, Marty!
When I saw all those 49's, I wondered whose celebration I had missed on this 22nd day of February, 2009. I was quite relieved to learn that it was my own very early birthday greeting.
BTW . . . 49 is also an age which I would not mind revealing to all the world.
Thanks for providing me with a happy, albeit silly reason for another wee toast. Cheers!
Lucy
Happy Shrove Tuesday!
What lenten observance have you settled on over this morning's pancakes and syrup?
Lucy
Ash Wednesday...
Does anyone else remember how we used to walk around all day with black smudges on our foreheads?
The point?..."Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return."
Lucy
BTW . . . I believe that now at 66 than I ever did at the age of 6!
LOL, Lucy
Me too!
Happy Birthday, Kenneth
It seems right to wish someone in Texas a "hot time" on his birthday. While those of us to the north endure winter's cold, you should be warm and comfortable on your February 27th birthday.
The fact that it's a Friday will probably add to your enjoyment. The weekend is yours to extend and savor the birthday celebrations.
Here in St. Andrews we raise a toast to your dreams, talents and creativity, Kenneth. May the year ahead be another very good one for you and Johanne. Cheers!
Best wishes and lots of love,
Louise and David
Happy TGIF Birthday, Margaret!
School is dismissed! We hope your February 27th birthday in the classroom was nice and easy.
That wonderful "Friday" feeling of freedom probably intensified as you made your way from Cupar to St. Andrews for your birthday celebrations.
We join your parents, family and friends in wishing you an especially happy time today and many more good times in the year ahead of you.
We'll most likely see you tomorrow before you go back to Cupar, Margaret. A visit to Cambo Gardens might just put more "icing on the cake", so to speak.
Lots of love and warm wishes,
Louise and David
Happy Birthday, Holly!
We've been thinking about you on this final day of February. We hope that you and Keenan are able to muster up some really happy birthday celebrations to finish off this second month of 2009 with flair.
Here in St. Andrews, we are raising a wee dram in a toast to you, Holly. Here's to your happiness and good health today and throughout the coming year. Cheers!
Lots of love,
Louise and David
Well, here in St. Andrews, March came in like a lamb yesterday. David and his friends were able to play a round of golf on the Jubilee Course that runs alongside the New and Old Courses.
So far, here on the blog, it appears that March has not come in at all. Where is everybody? Ed?
Lucy
Like you, Lucy, I was waiting for Ed to post before writing in March, which by the way, came in like a lion in Ottawa--very cold and windy. After several balmy days in February we had a flash freeze on the 27th (+11 to -18 in a few hours)and have been cold ever since. We are hoping the month will go out like a lamb and stay mild until next winter!
Love, BJ
Today is packing day. David and I are getting ready for a three-day trip to Dublin, Ireland.
Early tomorrow morning we will take a bus to Glasgow's Prestwick Airport where we will connect with a 1:30 pm Ryanair flight to Dublin. Though this will be our first visit to Ireland, we hope it will not be our last.
We'll be back in St. Andrews on Saturday night. In the meantime, if we can find Internet access during our travels, we will blurk and blog.
Lucy
Hi Lucy and David,
Have a wonderful trip. I love hearing about your trips. I hope you get to see a lot of things, and that you will return to Ireland again.
Love, BJ
