Here in St. Andrews, we are already 7 hours into your birthday celebrations.
We will be in Dublin later today where we will raise an Irish toast in your honour. We'll even use Guinness to wish you all the best today and throughout the coming year.
Dublin kept us busy and active from morning to night. We spotted several Internet cafes but it seemed silly for us to stop our round of sightseeing for site-surfing.
This morning, back in St. Andrews, we are catching up.
Kenneth, The description of your March lion sounds like a large version of our March lamb. How wonderfully inviting Austin must be any time of the year.
Happy International Women's Day to all my sisters and women friends. Without any of the anger of radical feminism, sisterhood really is to be celebrated.
What a great way to start a new week! Holly is home from her conference; Eddie, Mia, Lui and Ellie are back into their daily routines; and it's your 37th birthday.
Have a happy Monday celebration! We wish you a very good day today and another terrific year of family life in the months ahead.
Congratulations on being 85 years young today - active and engaged and still our resident expert on a whole variety of topics.
It's not very often that we get to celebrate such a milestone in anyone's life. We are very lucky to live right next door to you and Peggy. In fact, we feel like part of the Strachan family.
Here's to you, Peggy and Margaret on this happy, happy day! Cheers!
David and I are just days away from our departure for Italy. We will be flying into Milan early Tuesday(Martedi)afternoon. From there we will drive to Pordenone for accommodation. By Wednesday (Mercoledi) morning we will be ready to start our exploration of Grandpa Antonini's home town of Maniago. Saturday (Sabato) will see us on our way back to the UK.
I spoke to Aunt Jo, who gave us some family information, including names, dates and places. Uncle Eric also emailed a picture of twin doctors Luigi and Antonio Antonini who were still alive when Eric and Norma visited that region.
If anyone else out there in blogland has anything that could be of interest to us in our travels, per piacere let me know. Grazie!
I will send cartolini from Maniago if I can find una posta and make myself understood well enough to purchase stamps.
This morning, as we leave for Italy, we make three wishes...
That is, birthday wishes for...
Keaghan...have a happy St. Patrick's day celebration. Today we make a shamrock of a toast to your luck, health, happiness!
Louise...We will be remembering you on the 20th. Perhaps we can find a fine Italian wine to celebrate your special day in Maniago, the birthplace of your great-grandfather, Silvano Antonini. Chiao!
Mia... E njoy your March 22nd birthday! M ay your Sunday celebration be an E xciting start to another L ively year I n the life of A very special 6 year old!
Our Book of Days suggests that a 14th anniversary may be celebrated with ivory. Though you are not likely to find any that is legally available, the symbolism of this precious and pliable material can surely be applied to the celebration of a happy marriage of 14 years. Congratulations!
Today we raise a toast to you, Juliana and Brant, and to Kahless, Briana and Braden as they celebrate the love of their parents for one another and for each of them. Cheers!
As you can see, David and I are back from our four-day visit to Maniago and the surrounding area. I have already posted some pictures on Facebook for those of you who have access to that site.
Last Thursday, Dad's cousins, Silvano and Antonio and their families treated David and me to an evening meal at their favorite restaurant in a place called Vivaro. Through 7 courses, we sampled foods and wines of Italy's Friuli district. We also shared photos and memories of family in Canada and Italy.
Francesca, Silvano's 24 year old daughter, spoke enough Engish to become our "language link". Oh, how I wish I could have understood and spoken Italian! Lucy
CASPITA!!! Wow, Louise, what a way to spend some time in Italy! Imagine sharing a meal with Antonini relatives. Thanks for telling us about it. I got goose-bumps! Love, ME xoxoxoxo
Bob showed me your pictures on face book. They are wonderful! it sounds like you had a great time and met some very friendly relatives. Felicitazioni on a very successful Italian trip.
Silvano and Antonio remembered Dad and Mom's visit to Maniago in 1964. They recalled Mom's "illness" while she was there, and later learned that she had been pregnant with Robert. I showed them our 2007 family picture which they kept saying was "bello, bello". They wanted to know each of our names and occupations.
As you can imagine, when I opened up our family tree they were astounded. Angela and Francesco have said that they would like a copy of their own to get to know their Canadian relatives. Bob is already working on that request for me.
Yesterday, Silvano's wife, Marina, wrote in an email: "It's really exciting for us to reconnect with the past and bring back the loved ones."
Hi Louise, Last night Noah was here and went on his Facebook to show me your pictures of Italy. I cannot believe how much the Antonini twins look like our Grandpa and even like Dad ( if you removed their moustaches). It was some pretty emotional stuff for me, and I thought of what an impact meeting them, must have had on you.I can hardly imagine the whole thing.......almost surreal.Talk about getting back to our roots. Wow! Thanks so much for putting those pictures up for us to experience a part of our history.
Marty, I know what you mean about those nostalgic feelings. I am almost overwhelmed by them!
You're welcome, Mary Ellen. I'm thrilled that Noah took you to our photos on Facebook.
I am working on a written account of our Maniago adventure, too. As you have already imagined, meeting family was a very special time for me. Antonio has Dad's blue, understanding eyes. Enough said!
Take it from one who is 66 . . . 44 is a nice age to be!
You also get to celebrate on a Saturday which is a day off work for most people and a day off school for their children.
In whatever way that you, Bonnie, Jessica and Nicholas choose to mark your birthday, we know it will be a special time for all of you.
Here in St. Andrews, we will be raising a wee dram in a toast to you, Robert. We hope that you have a very good day, today. May it be just the beginning of another year of happy family life. Cheers!
My friend, Margaret, has given me yet another quiz to solve. HELP!

BJ . . . you are way ahead of me! I had six of the same ones you solved: brussel sprout, lime, ginger, onion, pepper and banana. The other two are: 17. asparagus 39. cherry
Z ero in on enjoying A day that is filled with C elebrations in your honour. H ave lots of fun A s family and friends R ejoice with you on this, Y our 14th birthday.
Lucy, Do you think maybe the answer to the 'thyme' clue is simply a translation. In Spanish thyme is 'tomillo'; in Portuguese it is 'tomilho' (both 7 letters)?
I don't know what to think, BJ. At least you have a few good suggestions for us. I'm going to ask Margaret if she has an answer to this one, too. I should be seeing her on the weekend. Lucy
Lucy, Bear with me while I embark on yet another long-winded explanation of clue 16. The scientific name for thyme is thymus which some people think comes from the Greek word 'thumos' or courage. Synonyms of thymus include pith or marrow. Courget (sometimes spelled courgette) is a marrow squash. It also sounds a bit like courage and has 7 letters. If it isn't the correct answer it should at least be good for a laugh, or an OMIGOSH, BJ is finally losing it! I am curious to hear what Margaret comes up with.
Wow, BJ! If we were to substitute "courage" for "thyme" in the original clue, your "courget" is the best answer yet. Well done! I'll get back to you on Margaret's thoughts, too. Lucy
Fourth anniversaries may be celebrated with silks, flowers and/or books. These symbols of richness, beauty and knowledge seem very appropriate in the early years of a marriage.
We will add a fine single-malt scotch to the mix as we raise our glasses in a warm, satisfying toast to your happiness on this special day.
Here in St. Andrews, our good friends and neighbours, Peggy and Isles Strachan (Margaret's Mom and Dad) are celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary today.

Yesterday, Silvano's wife, Marina, wrote in an email: "It's really exciting for us to reconnect with the past and bring back the loved ones."
That's how they made us feel!
Lucy
Amazing!!!
How wonderful to make this connection. I can honestly say that the feelings I have are actually nostalgic for some reason I can't explain.
Love,

No need to explain; I know what you mean, Marty.

Hey Marty,
I have a floral calendar (thanks to Vic and BJ) from which I pull a petal of inspiration every morning.
Today's quotation makes me think of you... at your piano, on stage, in film or brush in hand:
"Nothing is more fun than a job you enjoy."
Have a great day! I intend to do the same.

Can Spring, fine weather and easy living be far behind?
Here in St. Andrews, we raise our glasses in a toast to you, Sonia. Have a very good day today as family and friends join in a celebration of YOU.
Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David

Thanks Louise!
Love Sonia
You're welcome, Sonia. Our wee dram went down very smoothly as we toasted you on your birthday.
Lucy,
Do you think maybe the answer to the 'thyme' clue is simply a translation.
Lucy
Sorry folks,
I pressed "publish" and my comment appeared twice on the blog.
And that's no joke!
LOL, Lucy
Lucy,
Bear with me while I embark on yet another long-winded explanation of clue 16.
Lucy

Happy Anniversary, Mona and Stephen!
Cheers! May FOUR lead to many more!
Lots of love,
Louise and David
