April 20

Another month of more than 200 entries, that's pretty good. Here's a new thread to to start us off anew.

Ed, I got the song but I didn't get the real answer. Actually I think I got gotten. Ya get it?

Lui said...

That's kind of a neat spin on the quiz.
Here's one the girls should be able to get. It's just the song and performer:

Robert, on Sunday, Mr Goode, Arithmetic-is

Lui said...

Oh, Oh I think it was too early this morning. My puzzle should have read:

Len, on Sunday, Mr Goode, Arithmetic-is

ed said...

Hey Lou,

It probably didn't take you long before realising it would be goode to change to Len. These clues are like reading Greek as it is. I'll give the girls until noon.

Later

ed said...

Here's the answer to Lou's puzzle and an explanation of how well it fits.

Len is the TEWLFTH in the family
NEVER on Sunday is a popular song
JOHNNY B. Goode is also a popular song
MATH is arithmetic (-is)

The Twelfth of Never...Johnny Mathis

Like a shoe...nice LOU

BJ said...

Hey, I just found the new thread. just as well--now I have an excuse for not solving the quiz. As if I would have gotten it anyway. You guys are way too good.

Lui said...

I'm sure we can come up with hundreds of them. Try this one:

Not happy, not patent, not flip flops, Edward, Luigi, Victoria and include Sylvano.

ed said...

Lou,

I'm back to work tomorrow, so I can't dilly dally on this one,

Blue Suede Shoes...Elvis

BJ said...

AWESOME! I love it.

Louise and David said...

I would never have figured out The Twelfth of Never but I might have come up with Blue Suede Shoes given a day or two. One thing is for sure: when the answers are revealed, I can really appreciate the cleverness of the clues.

Here's one before work:

Shower at 4:30 am. Ladies debut, nimble.

Later

ed said...

I like this one.

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a Thompson-Nicola pasture
when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?"

Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"
The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.
Within seconds, he receives an email on his Crackberry that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-colour, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my animal?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

You're a Liberal politician from Ottawa, says Bud.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep. ....

Now give me back my dog.

LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!

BJ said...

Edward,
Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot

ed said...

Excellent!

'A shower at 4:30 am' is indeed an EARLY MORNING RAIN... The Bare Naked 'Ladies debut' album was titled GORDON and 'nimble's origin is... agile, (LIGHT-FOOT)ed.

Well done

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Auntie Louise. Hugs and love to all. I love our family!! Think of each and every one of you often.

BJ said...

I can't believe I actually got your puzzle Ed.
Here's one for you:
This singer rose to great heights with this song. And also has a small element in common with BJ.
Song and singer (though not composer) wanted.

Lui said...

BJ, is yours
Mighty Clouds of Joy by B J Thomas?

BJ said...

Sorry Lui
I am looking for a cover version of this song. And you could say the singer soared to Olympian heights rather than clouds.

Lui said...

Hallelujah by k.d. lang.

She sang it at the 2010 Olympics. The only similarity with you is that she uses initials as her name?

BJ said...

Yes, Lui.
This is my favorite cover of the song. For me, she was the highlight of the opening ceremonies.

BJ said...

And the initials are the connection to me. In fact I am thinking of changing my name to b.j.

Lui said...

That's funny! lol

Lui said...

How about this song and who sang it:

See, he even realizes it's so hard to come up with the relationship between two seemingly unrelated items.

BJ said...

Lui,
One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor. Paul Simon?

Lui said...

Sorry b.j., No but I will tell you the song clue ends at 'hard'.

BJ said...

A Hard Day's Night by John Lennon?

Lui said...

No, BJ, the song title starts with See [sic] and ends with Hard.

BJ said...

Lui,
Is it Easy to be hard by Cheryl Barnes?

Lui said...

No, sorry wrong again.

This was one of two songs I played in a concert when I was in grade twelve at O'neill and both songs were dedicated to my girl friend. (The one that later became my wife!). The other song was 'And I Love Her' by the Beatles.

BJ said...

Edward,
I need your help here. What was the other song Lui sang?

ed said...

Light bulbs for a twelve day income tax marathon....$4.00
Scratch pads for figuring...$36.00
One and a half gallons of Wite-out...$179.00
Roller cage and rollers for wite-out...$12.00
Great stay awake pills from the shady looking dude on the corner...$800.00

Giving up and getting Tony to do it for me in three and a half hours...priceless

ed said...

Betty Jo, I wasn't there but give me some time and I'll see what I come up with.

ed said...

I came up with nothing, so we'll fish for another clue...

See Ya later alligator...Bill haley and the comets

After a while crocodile

Lui said...

OK, try figuring out the group.

What is another word for the RELATIONSHIP between two seemingly unrelated items.

BJ said...

Lynyrd Skynyrd : We Ain't Much Different
Still fishing for clues.

Lui said...

OK BJ you can't miss with this one.

I guess my clue should have read:

See[sic] He Even Realizes It's So Hard to come up with the RELATIONSHIP between two seemingly unrelated items.

BJ said...

That's easy for you to say, Lui. It isn't transparent to me.
Is it Glad to be Unhappy, by the Mamas and Papas?

Lui said...

Sorry, focus on the capitals.

BJ said...

Lui, I tried that before and didn't find anything. I'll try again.

BJ said...

Ohh--Is it Cherish by Madonna?

Lui said...

It's Cherish but Madonna was only 8 yrs old when this song was #1.

Lui said...

And Madonna doesn't explain the relationship between two seemingly UNASSOCIATED items.

BJ said...

Is the connection that The Association recorded the song?

Lui said...

I thought I was being clever. If you put the word relationship into a word document and then use the thesaurus the first word that shows up is association.
It goes back to my comment that when you know the answer it seems so obvious but when you don't it can be very difficult.

ed said...

Betty Jo

When I got home and saw 45 entries, I thought, wow. It's been fun watching you and Lou miscommunicate. Congrats on getting the song, of course, Lou having performed it in grade twelve meant it was before Madonna's time, so yes, it would be the Association...good work.

If it is said I pursue lexicological crap when I ask for the name of this song I won't be insulted. And all I want is the song.

Lui said...

BJ, would it be the song 'Words'.

The one I mean was performed by the Bee Gees.

Lui said...

Or how about 'Let It Be'

"Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom..."

BJ said...

Lui,
I like both of those, but neither is correct. Keep thinking 'word', though,

ed said...

Betty Jo

How about 'Surfin' Bird' by the Trashmen

BJ said...

Sorry Ed,
I laughed at the Trashmen, but it's not correct. The title of the song is one word.

ed said...

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?

BJ said...

Yes, Edward.
The first 8 words of my clue contain all the letters, and are an anagram of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

BJ said...

New Clue:
Same old, same old. Song and group.

Lui said...

BJ, I think that last one of yours is possibly the best one we have had to date. An anagram of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is incredible. Great job!

BJ said...

Thanks Lui,
For that, you get an extra clue. Although it's just the same old, same old, there is a heightened element to it.
BTW, the anagram is not mine, the song title was my choice, but I went looking for the anagram. You can find all sorts of great things on the Internet.

Lui said...

BJ, is it

'It's the Same old Song' by the Four Tops?

BJ said...

Good guess Lui, but not correct. Fly a little higher.

Louise and David said...

Reflections, The Supremes?

Lucy

BJ said...

Very clever answer, Lucy, but not the correct one.
The first clue I gave is the song. The second is the group.

BJ said...

The high-flying band in my clue is from California.

Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles

BJ said...

Lucy, once again, I think the guesses are sometimes cleverer than the correct answer, but neither the song nor the group is correct.

BJ said...

Lui,
Right group, wrong song.

Lui said...

Business as Usual? by the Eagles

ed said...

HA!LAYFREAKINLOUYA!

Talk about 'business as usual', which by the way I've never heard of and it isn't even on my lyrics search engine, i just finished filing my taxes, Deanie's and her dad's. Under the wire, actually I have 8 hours to spare. That calls for a puzzle. Right back.

Just for fun who am I looking for:

1. This protective father is handy with both a knife and a gun.

2.She doesn't own a rice paddy but she still picks it up occasionally.

3.He roams here and there with a sunny disposition

4.They said he came from the wrong side of town

5.She would whirl to the music

Edward, I can't believe you don't know this song. I have it on my Eagle CD set. I thought you and Lui knew everything. Sigh.....

No. 3. Travellin'Man?
No. 4. Bobby Little?

1. Clifton Clowers who's watching over his daughter on Wolverton mountain

1. Clifton Clowers
2. Eleanor Rigby

4. Leader of the pack

good work so far
