September 1

September is a month I'll always remeber, when I was a little, bitty, baby...well, i was older than that, I was in high school actually, Campion College to be exact, I happened to be expelled one day, yeah, I know, hard to believe. Tony had been a model student, Lou saved his model student year for O'neill. They wanted me to follow in Tony's footsteps, yeah, right. It was all downhill from there. Anyway, as i was saying, I was expelled. I was late for classes, was all, 5 times in 3 days. There was a special bus that you could catch on 5th ave, it would swing past the Academy then roll out to Campion on 23rd and Albert. Who the hell knew that? I didn't find out til the 4th day, and listen, if they want a kid to get back in time after lunch, they should have considered letting Bud's Spud's Chip Truck park in the lot at Campion instead of making me walk down to the Golden Mile. It wasn't that long a walk, it was just slow going past Marion, both ways. Anyways, back to my punishment for being expelled. I had to spend the day off with dad...Ha! They're lucky I was ever on time again. I'll always remember that day.

Lots of love

Hi BJ,
I'm filling out our sheet for the nursery rhyme quiz and I can't find an answer for #9. I've tried to solve it on my own with no luck. Did you ever figure that one out?
Thanks, Lucy

BJ said...

Lucy,
I had "I SCREAM,YOU SCREAM" for #9, but wasn't sure if it qualified as a nursery rhyme, so I guess I forgot to post it.

Louise and David said...

Thanks BJ, I'd say that qualifies. It also finishes off the quiz.

There's no word yet on the results of the clothing quiz. I wasn't expecting a winner's call so I'll just keep watching for an answer key.

The things people say.
"People are pigs"...That's a phrase I agree is an "insult to pigs", then again, from what we're taught, pigs can't be insulted.
I've heard "My mouth tastes like the bottom of a bird cage"...How do they know?
Then there is "You can eat off her kitchen floor". Actually that one's ok, I usually have a mouthful or two off Deanie's when the kids are over for brunch.
They're coming today...yum yum.

Have a great day

Well, I have the results of the clothing quiz we entered. It goes without saying that we did not win.

We scored 15 out of 20. The person who marked our paper commented: "SORRY! NEXT TIME! THANK YOU."

Here are the corrections:
11. To be in it one adds in to it.
VEST (we said crinoline)

12. To be this one would be out on the hills and down wind. DEERSTALKER (we said windbreaker)

16. Eat part and wear the rest but only wear the lot. DINNERSUIT (we said bandana)

19. They aim to improve peoples performance. TRAINERS (we said costumes)

20. A little extra and what sounds like warnings. PLUS FOURS (we said halter tops)

We will definitely do better on the nursery rhyme quiz. I KNOW that all of our answers are right on that one. We just need "the luck of the draw".

Cheers! Lucy

We should not have missed trainers, and I had considered deerstalker for #12, but figured it was too obscure. Go figure.

Oh! Today there is great anticipation in Eddie, the gnocklehead's household. Today we are making gnocchi, not gnockle head gnocchi, but it is gnocchi. Actually it's a birthday celebration for Deanie's great friend Geri and she's going to help make it. So we can call it "two terrific cooks and one gnocklehead gnocco" (The Italian spelling). Don't let the other gnockleheads know we make it with instant potatoes. Dad loved it, the other gnockleheads will tell you he was just saying it to be kind, but three helpings suggests an honest liking for the dish. Of course, Deanie always made him a lemon meringue pie to chase it down.
Deanie comes by her cooking skills honestly, I don't know if you know this story, but, when we were young we spent a lot of Sundays together and when I took her home around supper time she would invite me in, of course, I was too shy and frightened to go in and eat with her family, so I always turned her down. One Sunday I rolled into the driveway and her mom came out with a plate of food she threatened to throw out if I didn't come in, I had to accept, and besides, I was interested when she told me the little green round things on the plate were peas. I always thought they were grey. Anyway, there were a lot of things fresh from her garden that won me over and she had made some large helpings. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach (some might add, my empty leg). I was there every Sunday after that, even if Deanie was away playing volleyball.
Yes, there is great anticipation in our house today.
P.S. Louise and David, raise another toast.

Eddie the gnocklehead.

You're right Mary Ellen, it's pretty much impossible to stop at 1 gnocco. Our 3 guests last night we're all novices and they made the classic gnocchi mistake, after their brains had told them "this is good" and they took a second helping their body got around to telling them "you've had enough". There was some belt loosening going on and the dessert tray was left untouched. Oh... I had to have a couple butter tarts, some chocolate bark and a bit of ice cream, you know, my hollow leg and all. Besides, I'm an experienced gnocchi eater and it's not like I'm never going to get to eat it again, in fact, it's about time for breakfast.

Have a great day.
