March 1

March 1st almost passed by without an entry. It's been somewhat hectic around our place since Deanie's dad died. There have been some very emotional moments with the family. He was 95 and will be missed. We have the funeral on Friday and I expect to see a large number of people. He was certainly loved by the town of Lumsden, I was happy to call him dad.

Lots of love

Hi, Edward
Thank you for your March 1st posting. I wondered if we would hear from you at this time.

Thanks, too, for your words of tribute to Deanie's dad. Obviously, he was loved by his family and friends. The fact that you were "happy to call him Dad" speaks volumes to those of us whose fathers are (and were) among the very best of dads.

We hope that Friday is a day of great consolation in the midst of family grief and personal sorrows.

Lots of love,

March has come in like a lamb in St. Andrews. It is a cool grey day today but we have had two and a half days of glorious sunshine so far. Early flowers have appeared in our garden and there is no doubt that spring is on its way.

How are things elsewhere in blogland?

I hope everyone will be out looking at the supermoon tonight. Moonrise is at 7:39 in Ottawa and it looks like it is going to be clear and cold. The moon will not look this big again for 19 years.

Louise and David said...

Here in St. Andrews we went down to East Sands to watch the moon come up but the sky clouded over and we missed the spectacle altogether.

Sorry to hear you missed the moon, Lucy and David. We were fortunate to see it come up over the horizon and it was awesome. We checked on it several times during the night. Did anyone else see it?

I didn't see the moon, damn it! It was cloudy in Regina Saturday night. the kids were over too, I was excited to show it to them but it wasn't to be. It has been a real pleasure to me that kids are able to recognize and point out the moon when they are just babies. They would have all been excited. They have all taken turns finding it for me over the years. I'm hoping it reminds them of me as much as it reminds me of dad.

Have a great day

Louise and David said...

Since Saturday we have seen two pictures of the supermoon. First, Bob has an impressively clear shot of it on Facebook. (Thanks for capturing the image, Bob.)

Then in the news coverage of events in Libya, we caught sight of the huge moon in relation to the Tripoli skyline. That was poignant - one earth, one moon and so much discord.

BELATED GREETINGS:

As many of you already know, David and I flew over to Denmark last week for the Women's World Curling Championships. We met our Canadian team and watched them take the silver medal in the final match against Sweden. Well done, Team Canada! The whole experience was wonderful.

I tried several times to access Ed's Edition on the hotel computer without any luck. Still David and I remembered to toast family members who were celebrating special events while we were away. Now, here are our belated greetings to:

JULIANA and BRANT on your 16th wedding anniversary, Friday, March 25. Congratulations!

MELISSA and ALAN on the safe arrival of your daughter, Sarafina Michelle Lee, born Sunday, March 27. Welcome to the family, Sarafina!

ROBERT on your 46th birthday, Monday, March 28. We hope it got your week and another year of life off to a happy start. Cheers!

ZACHARY on your 16th birthday which we celebrated yesterday, March 29th in the skies over Denmark, the North Sea and Scotland. Enjoy being 16!
