I'm starting to get some answers:

1.BEST MAN
9.HONEYMOON
20.FLOWER GIRLS

Lucy

BJ said...

Hey, I just tuned in and realized we had a new thread going. And a new contest:
8. wedding feast
13. bridesmaids
18. morning dress
19. toast
21. marriage
24. Wedding march

BJ said...

2. champaign
3. marquee
6. aisle
14. usher
17. stag night
25. photo album

BJ said...

4. mother-in-law
10. ante-room

Louise and David said...

Wow, BJ when you start solving, you really get on a roll. Thanks to you, we have 17 answers already with 8 to go.

Unfortunately, I don't have anymore to offer myself at this time. I'll be back though.

Love, Lucy

Lui said...

Could 22 be spinster cake. I think there is a recipe for one in a cake book by Julie Duff sold on Amazon UK but I can't find anything else to confirm.

BJ said...

5. groom
15. good wishes?
By a very long shot could 12 be tie the knot?

BJ said...

Other possibilities:
15. Nice gifts?
7. Greetings?
23. Venue sites?

BJ said...

Could 16 be train? A mule train goes clippity clop (in the western song Mule Train)The bride often wears a gown with a train.

BJ said...

11. Corsage

No. 12 has me completely stumped. I will keep working on it, but I hope somebody else can solve it.

BJ said...

How about fittings for No. 12?

f IT TI ngs. "it" is tunred to "ti" immediately in this word. I still don't get the who done it, but this is the best I can come up with for now.

Louise and David said...

OK, it looks like we are down to the end of our latest quiz. Well done!

Lui, I like SPINSTER CAKE for number 22.

BJ, I have entered numbers 5 (GROOM), 11. (CORSAGE - and isn't that a clever one?), and 15 (NICE GIFTS).

I have also been working on some of the last clues. It seems we have a choice on three others:

7. GREETINGS/ADDRESSES
16.TRAIN/HORSESHOE
23.VENUE SITES/PLACE SETTINGS

What do you think?

Number 12 is still "out there".
I played with your idea of fittings, BJ. How about the movie The STING with an IT in it for SITTING, as in photo or meal sitting?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, BONNIE AND ROBERT!

Here in St. Andrews we have been greeted by yet another rainy day.

We are not going to let the rain dampen our spirits, though, as we celebrate your 24th anniversary from across the miles.

Congratulations! Can you believe that you are "on your way to SILVER"? May each of the milestones of your quarter-century year be a joyful one for you and for your family. Cheers!

Lots of love,
Louise and David

Hi,

I like place settings bettter than venues (23), addresses better than greetings (7), and I meant sittings as photo sittings, but the singular sitting is better. (and your figuring out of the clue for that one is brilliant)

I am not sure about the horseshoe and train answers (16). Horseshoe fits the clue better, but train seems to me to fit the wedding theme better. Are horseshoes considered a symbol of luck in marriage?

I really like Lui's spinster cake.

Louise and David said...

Thanks for the feedback, BJ. I've entered the last few answers that you've shown a preference for and I think I'll go with horseshoe for No.16. I have actually seen wedding decorations build around the horseshoe symbol.

That's another quiz completed. Watch this space for more. BTW. . .there's still no word on our most recent entry.

Lots of love,
Lucy

Well, the results of the "countries" quiz are in and we missed 13 of 30 answers. I think that might be the worst result we have ever had.

I'll post the original question followed by the correct answer (no explanations offered, except for #10) and end with our answer in brackets.
Here's what happened. . . . . .

1. Jungle celebrity. JORDAN (Sierra Lione)
2. Ready to eat? HUNGARY (Turkey)
3. Home of the less fattening centres. MALTA (Hungary)
7. Brand of toys-part missing. CHAD
(Cuba)
9. Vowel changes shape. CUBA (Australia)
10. Doom and gloom. OMAN-hidden in the clue (The Netherlands)
11. Cold. CHILE (Iceland)
12. Nearly an animal. GOA (Mali)
16. Direction to the garden. SWEDEN (Grenada)
23. Where to spend a bolivar. VENEZUELA (Bolivia)
24. Ladies welcome! ISLE OF MAN (Senegal)
27. Two misses. LOUISIANA (Mississippi)
29. Contradiction. CONNECTICUT (Ohio)

It seems that no one got all 30 answers (I wonder why!). 28 was the highest score achieved by 9 entrants so there was a draw for the prize. That's a well-deserved £10!

LOL, Lucy

☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺

BJ said...

Wow! Even with the answers, it takes a while to figure out the clues. And we thought it was easier than the wedding puzzle. I wonder how we will do on that?

BJ said...

I still don't understand 1 (Jordan), 3 (Malta), and 7(Chad). Can anyone help me out?

Louise and David said...

BJ, I guess I missed a UK connection on #1 and #3. Dave tells me that Jordan is a sexy female celebrity who took part in a jungle reality show called: "Help, I'm a Celebrity; Get Me Out of Here". How was I to know?

He also thinks that Malta might come from the TV ad for Maltesers as a light, low-cal snack for chocolate lovers. We're still working on CHAD but I suspect it may also be related to something in our part of the world.

Lucy

Louise and David said...

OMG, I have just discovered that CHAD VALLEY TOYS is a huge manufacturer of toys in the UK. I guess I'm not into that part of the market anymore.

Sorry about that, folks!

LOL, Lucy

BJ said...

WHO KNEW? Thanks for the clarification. Let's hope we did better on the last puzzle. And let's keep doing them, even if we aren't perfect.

Today we are hearing so many accounts and memories of 9/11, ten years after the terrorist attacks on NY's twin towers.

We remember where we were when news reports began coming in - in the reception room of a St. Andrews law firm. The secretary had turned on the TV. The second plane had not yet hit the second tower. At that point it looked like a terrible accident had happened but events quickly unfolded to reveal the real terror of it all.
