Happy New Year
I didn't quite make it through Dec without a mishap. I finished work in November and decided I wasn't the man my boss needed for that job, so I will no longer be driving a gravel truck from April to November. I am unable to retire so I've managed to latch onto two jobs to help make the ends meet. It was during my second job when the mishap occured. On December 3rd, two days after visiting Las Vegas (the luck I had down there should have been a clue), I was tiling a house and was carrying a bucket of cut tiles down stairs when I lost my footing at the bottom of the stairs. The brain is an amazing thing, in the micro second during the fall, my brain, being good at geometry, calculated the exact angle my foot needed to be at to land squarely on the floor thus preventing a sprained or broken ankle. Unfortunately, during that calculating it neglected to tell my arm about the unfinished newel post it was about to collide with. You guessed it, big gash from wrist to forearm, and, the house is out of town so no emergency room visit available. Not to worry, I have some clean rags for grouting and a roll of duct tape, hey, and not that dollar store tape or Canadian Tire red tag special, this is the good stuff. I have a couple marble clamps with me so they can close up the gash while I wind some tape around it. Voila! As good as a gashed arm in duct tape. I took the rest of the day off and drove myself home before my brain got over the shock and realised I was in pain. Once home, the demerol tricked it into thinking I still wasn't in pain.
Now, I knew when I duct taped my arm I would have a wee bit of trouble getting it off so was prepared to wait a few days for the adhesive to lose some of it's strength. I managed to scrape it off before midnight mass Christmas Eve, took a little bit of hair with it, that's ok, it matches my head now. The gash had welded itself shut, the arm itself looked a bit aged. If they ever use Regina to shoot an episode of "The Walking Dead" they could use my arm for a zombie arm, no make up required. I wear long sleeves now. Not because of my arm, it's damn cold here, what were you thinking, it's January for heaven's sake.

I was watching a movie the other day and a father told his son to have a great day at school, his mother said that was too much preasure to put on him so his father said...

Have the day you have

Ahhh...the glory of duct tape. It can fix almost anything! It is also entertaining and makes for a very good laugh. I hope it was not quite as bad as it sounds, but that may be wishful thinking on my part.
Anyway, a happy new year of mishap-free days, and good luck in your new career, Loved. Stay safe.
Love and HNY to all the family. BJ

Well, Ed, I saw you on December 8 and you made no mention of the injury to your arm. I also saw more that one grandchild holding on to you at that family gathering. You must have made a speedy recovery for sure, It is to your credit that I had no clue that you were being held together by duct tape. You are one tough guy when it comes to injury and pain.

May 2013 be your lucky year!

Dave and I have just returned to West Kelowna from a New Year celebration with friends in the nearby community of Fintry.

We remembered the January First birthday celebrants but were unable to post blog greetings yesterday.

So.....belated birthday wishes to you, Christine and Carol. We hope 2013 got off to a happy start for each of you as you marked the birth of a new year and celebrated your own birthday as well.

We have already raised a toast in your honour. Here's to double the fun on the first of the year!

Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and Dave

Did I say Dec 3rd, I meant December 9th, yeah that's it December 9th. Ok. Busted! Sometimes the account of my injuries are represented disproportunately. I little skin burn doesn't make for quite as interesting a story. By the way, when I was imagining that piece I did recall a number of trips to the emergency. The time I broke my nose, three times over the course of six weeks, I don't recall having to wait for treatment. When I smashed my head open on the living room register, I can't remember having to sit and wait. Of course I can't remember anything about having my stomach pumped after drinking a bottle of vanilla extract, probably didn't have to wait long then either. That reminds me, I do remember ether, I wish I didn't. I'm sure I didn't have to wait when my head was broken open by a baseball bat at grade school. Heck, even when I got a fish hook stuck in my leg. I didn't even get to emergency, a doctor cut it out in his cabin at the lake. Now if you go to emergency, unless you have chest pain, plan to take a novel.

Have whatever day you have...

Hi Ed!
I guess I knew that you were using exaggeration to create humour but I believed enough to go back over my party shots for evidence of injury. No sign of suffering there, though.

However, your list of past injuries is certainly the truth. You have many childhood stories to draw on. In fact, it's a wonder you survived to tell them all.

Love your closing line. It is very good advice for anyone heading up to emergency.

Good day to you, too
Louise

Thank you for the birthday wish.
Six years. Wow, it seems longer ago that we had our family reunion. I often wonder how many people actually read the blog. It's nice to get a birthday wish on it, maybe it's checked that particular day.
Here's a little quiz for those who do read it.
Who was Maria asked to send a copy of the letter to?
Who will you pick out, walking about, even in a crowd?
What is the destination of the third boxcar of the midnight train?

Hi Ed,
I'm sure you'll get answers to your questions from the music moguls in the family. The clues all sound like they come from songs. They are familiar to me, but I can't get the titles. Marty...Lui..HELP!
I read the blog every day, but I don't post very often. I'm happy Ed's Edition is here and I love to check out who is having a birthday. Great job Lucy. I also love reading the word contests and watching the clever minds solving them, even though I don`t get them. The monthly opening alsways lifts me up and makes me laugh. Thanmks to all the contributors!
Love to all,
ME xoxo

I'm here everyday, too. Today I am waiting for someone to come up with the answers to Ed's 3-part quiz.

Well, Ed, I found out that the boxcar is going to Bangor, Maine. Now I'm trying to track down Mary's letter and someone who sticks out in every crowd.

LOL, Lucy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAHLESS!

We hope your Friday birthday gets the weekend off to a happy round of celebrations for you. Have fun with your friends and family.

(Your January 19th birthday also reminds me of your great-grandma Antonini who was born 95 years ago today. I was visiting her in Regina on the very day that she got the news of your birth. She was really happy to hear that she would always be sharing her birthday with you.)

We add our best wishes to all the others that you are sure to receive on this day that you turn 12. Congratulations!

Lots of love,
Louise and David

I have just been reminded that January 19th is a Saturday. Sorry about that Kahless. In any case, we hope you are having a great birthday!

(When you reach retirement age, you will discover that you do not always keep track of the days of the week. Every day is a holiday. Doesn't that sound like fun?)

LOL, Louise
