I just arrived back home from the north where I go every year to walk a lake. The real name is Wakaw Lake but I like the joke, if I could walk a lake I'd feel kinda special. Anyway, here is a new thread for the blog for August, and I will try to update it each month so we can keep a bit of a time line toward the reunion. It's going to be fun starting the reunion on the blog a year early. Welcome back.

Hi Ed. I should have remembered your annual trip to Wakaw Lake at the beginning of August. I hope the family gathering was fun for everyone who managed to join you there.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACOB!
Congratulations! You won't have to go very far to have fun on your birthday. You've got a beautiful swimming pool in your back yard where friends and family will be more than happy to join in the celebration.
May the sun shine on you today and may you enjoy many happy returns of your August 7th birthday.
Lots of love and warm wishes,
Louise and David

Well BJ I got the answers back on the Occupations and Professions quiz. We scored 36 out of 40. They had 46 entries and only 8 people had all the answers right. A woman in Nottingham, England got first prize and a man in Cupar, Scotland came in second.
Here are our corrections:
13. The sound of 100 birds, loses a point. We put HATTER; the answer was CLERK
The explanation is C for 100
LARKS (for birds) loses the S to make CLARK which sounds like CLERK
23. The German includes a hit.
We put MANAGER; the answer is DRAPER
The explanation is DER for the in German and RAP for a hit which goes inside to form DRAPER
28. Could this be a serious mole? We put SPY; the answer is GRAVE DIGGER.
No explanation needed there!
32. Third class edge first. We put PETTY OFFICER; the answer is CHEMIST.
Explanation give C as 3rd class, HEM as edge and Ist as first to make CHEMIST
Your DOCENTE was right for the penny inserted in a female flock. Well done, you!
Lucy
Thanks for the info, Lucy. I always like to see the answers, but for me the joy is in the journey, so the fun we get out of the quizzes is the prize for me.
I think some of the family are still on the July thread (including me). How do we get them into August? Maybe an email to everyone would do it.
Loved, can you let them know how to get here?
BJ
BTW, Lucy, I think CHEMIST for third class edge first is especially clever.
Okay BJ, I have left a final message in the July section, explaining how to move on to August. Things should start hopping any time now.
LOL, Lucy
Thanks, Lucy.
I thought you were serious, Ed, about walking a lake. You, Deannie and Heather walk a lake all the time, don't you (Wascana)? I quickly realized you were talking about the reunion & laughed out loud. I've been in August since you put it up Ed. I'll have to go back to July and see if I missed anything.

Okay, I have another of those quizzes that can be done by doing a bit of hunting on the internet. It is titled: "Better Known As". The clues are the birth names of well-known actors, authors and singers. We have to come up with the names these famous people are better known as.
Do you know any of them without having to "peek"? I know only one.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!
According to our Book of Days, this 75th birthday is a DIAMOND event in your life. Congratulations!
You can be sure that, later today, we will be raising a toast in your honor. We have a fine, single-malt scotch from our favorite distillery on the Isle of Islay. We save it for occasions just like this one, when someone special in our lives is celebrating something special in his. Cheers! May you enjoy many happy returns of this day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEN!
Well, we have wakened to a cool, wet day that could well be warning us that autumn is just around the corner. We won't let the cold and rain stop us from sending warm wishes your way today.
Maybe Saskatchewan has a nice weekend in store for you. We hope so. Anyway, enjoy your birthday celebrations with family and friends. Here's to many happy returns of this day. Cheers!

1. BACK
3. SHOWER
So, BJ, we have BACK for an answer to both #1 and 2. Shall I leave it that way or should we look for a better fit for one of the two sets?
We still need answers to #23 and #30, too.
Lucy
Hi Lucy,
I didn't realize that 1 and 2 had the same answer. I think we should look for a better one for either set. I'll also look at 23 and 30 again.
Could 23 be PARTY?
And if there is such a thing as an eagle steak, No. 30 could be EAGLE.
The Grumbling Gourmet says--"The Eagle--possibly the best steak sandwich in the world." I think the pub is called the Eagle.
How about WHEEL for no. 1
Those last 3 answers work perfectly! Thanks, BJ.
Another quiz is completed for entry into the draw for a 10 Pound gift voucher. We have yet to win but we're having fun trying.
Lucy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KELLY!
You and Len are probably still in celebration mode following his birthday, five days ago. We hope there's more fun in store for you as you turn 54 today.
Here in St. Andrews you'd be forgiven for thinking it was one of those damp February days you spent here with us, a few years ago. Maybe the sun is shining on you in Saskatchewan, adding warmth and beauty to your special day? We'll drink to that!...and to many more happy returns of this day.
Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAREN!
Greetings from us in Scotland where we are having to turn up the heat on this cold summer's day. But we won't let the weather put a damper on our celebration of your August 22nd birthday.
No, indeed, before night closes in on us, we'll be raising a warm toast to your good health and happiness. Here's to you at 52! May the year ahead of you be one of the best ever.
Lots of love,
Louise and David

Hi Louise, Some of our mornings feel like Fall but the August days have been reaching into the 30's (as usual). 'Quite glorious. (-:
Hi Christine, I was pretty sure that Regina would not be experiencing cold, damp weather like we are having on Scotland's east coast.
Thanks for sending some of the warmth and glory our way via the blog. Have a lovely day.
Louise
Thank you Louise,
It is so nice to have family wish me a happy birthday from another continent. I wish I could send you some of our warm weather.
Love,
Karen
Oh, Karen, I wish you could send us some of your warm weather, too. On the other hand, our single-malt scotch provides a warmth all of its own. Cheers! Continue to enjoy your sunny Alberta birthday.
Love, Louise

Congratulations! You're not likely to see this blog greeting yourself but maybe someone in the family will pass it along to you. You and your family are in our thoughts today.
We're sure that Jamie and Tess will do something special to celebrate your 36th birthday. Here in St. Andrews, we'll be joining in with our own toast ... to fun with family and friends today and throughout the coming year. Cheers!

Hi Lucy,
I love your birthday greetings, and check every day to see who is currently being celebrated.
Thanks, BJ
I like knowing who is celebrating too. Thank goodness for Bob's calendar!
Today it's Piper's turn and I am remembering the first picture I ever saw of her and Dehlia in pumpkin outfits, dressed for Hallowe'en. Mom showed it to me and she cherished those two girls as if they were her own.
Love the feedback!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOU!
Congratulations! There's something special about the number 65. Maybe we connect it to retirement age or perhaps it confirms our status as seniors, entitling us to all kinds of discounts.
Anyway, Lou, what makes 65 special today is YOU! We were lucky enough to start the celebrations with you way back in May when you came to St. Andrews for the ultimate golf experience. We hope today is the "icing on the cake" of a very good year. May you get to enjoy many happy returns of your August 27th birthday.
Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David

Thanks Louise, and I must say that your hospitality back in May was phenomenal! The golf really was secondary.
What a nice thing to say, Lou! (To be honest, I felt that way myself about the golf being secondary. But then, I don't even play the game.)
Love, Louise
PS: I hope your birthday celebrations are still going strong. Cheers!

Yours is the second birthday celebration this week for the MacDonald family. You and Piper could even share the same cake if you added several candles to Monday's leftovers.
Anyway, enjoy your mid-week birthday. We certainly intend to do our share of celebrating in your honor. Have fun with family and friends. May the year ahead be an especially good one for you.

Hey everybody, how bout those Roughriders, will they be 8-1 after the labour day game?
I just want to say that...Karen and I always look forward to receiving our Barker Bugle. This month, we really enjoyed the article titled "On Cursive Writing".
The "Blog" is amazing. It reaches anywhere in the world and connects us all instantly, but to experience Louise's handwriting is simply "Out Of This World".
Love,
Marty
