Obesity. Yep, he's been creeping up on me. I call him Obi for short. He was with me the other day at the grocery store, I caught him dropping two 2-litre bottles of Pepsi into the cart. I give him a look "What the...?" "Buy one get one free," he says. The problem with two litre bottles is, they start to go flat as soon as you open them. I can probably do a litre for breakfast, you know, that caffeine buzz, not to mention the sugar high you plummet from around 11a.m. It's that second litre, it should be drank the same day so you're looking at an evening snack. Obi has the answer of course, he's thrown 6, that's one half dozen, bags of potato chips into the cart. I sort of blurted out "Jesus Christ Obi". That's when the old lady hit me with her purse, it was heavy too, the arm she carried it with was 3 inches longer than the other. The stitching was leaving scratches where she dragged it across the terrazzo floor. I look again at the bags of chips...FORMAT FAMILIAL, I think that's DIMENSIONE DELLA FAMIGLIA to Lucy and her friends, to me it's FAMILY SIZE. Big bags in any language, although, lets face it, family size is relative, no pen intunded, pour a bag of these into a bowl and an average family will eat it in 20 maybe 30 minutes. Open a bag for Luigi and Mary's family and they won't even get to the bowl, they'll be gone in maybe 8 or 9 seconds, 6 if we have to share with the girls. Ohh! I think I heard a bag open, catch ya later.
Have a great day

Ohmigosh! Ed we are definitely related. Obi is also well-known to me…….and he talks to me in the same way. I laughed so hard at :"Open a bag for Luigi and Mary's family and they won't even get to the bowl, they'll be gone in maybe 8 or 9 seconds, 6 if we have to share with the girls."
You know us all quite well!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARTY!
Our greetings are coming to you from Kamloops where we are visiting Dave's brother, Christopher. Yesterday, we took in a day of the action at the Tim Horton's Brier which is being held here in Canada's Tournament Capital. We will likely be following some more of it on TV when we return to Kelowna later today.
We hope you are enjoying your Tuesday birthday in Calgary. From what we hear, winter is sure not giving you a break out there in Alberta.
No matter what the weather, we send you the warmest of wishes. Have a happy celebration of YOU at 57 and of your exceptional talents. May the year ahead be filled with music, art and theatre. Cheers!
Lots of love,
Louise and David

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PATRICK!
We are a little late in posting today's greeting because we spent the morning driving from Kamloops to Kelowna. We wanted to get home before a winter storm that is supposed to be heading our way.
Now that we've arrived safely, we are able to take time to wish you "all the best" as we enter into "celebration mode" in honor of you. We hope your 27th birthday is going well. May you enjoy many happy returns of this special occasion in your life.
Cheers, love and warm wishes,
Louise and David

Hi Lucy,
Although I don't often comment on your birthday greetings, I love reading them. They are all different and so appropriate, and I never miss one. Thanks for posting them.
Thanks BJ, I enjoy posting greetings for various celebrations and I'm glad that you like reading them, too. As you know, the calendar I use is generated from Bob's family tree so I have a handy, dandy reference at my fingertips. As Thomas might be heard to say, ,,,"easy peasy".
Love, Lucy

We can only imagine the excitement as your kids find ways to make this day special for their dad. We add our greetings to theirs and wish you a happy, happy day. May the year ahead be filled with more good times and countless blessings.

We know it is not likely that you will read our blog greetings but maybe someone in the Conty/Barker family will pass them on to you.
We're also hoping that we will finally get to meet you some day. In the meantime, we are able to see your picture on the tree that Bob has created for us to keep track of our ever-growing family.
Have a happy mid-week birthday celebration. We hope you are well and able to make the most of this special occasion. Many happy returns!

Hi Peggy and Margaret,
We know that you often drop in on Ed's Edition. We just want you to know that our thoughts are winging their way to you in St. Andrews on this day that Isles would have been 90.
We're still in Canada, of course, but we will see you in The Steading at the end of the month.
Lots of love,
Louise and David

I know I haven't been active lately but with the reunion just a few months away I thought it would be a good time to start a new song related quiz. There will be fourteen in all and I will post the first one in a little while with the rules.
Ok, here's how it goes. There will be five questions for each song and you must get the correct answer for each question. The correct answer is my answer. If you think your answer is better, too bad. It's kind of like charades. When you find out the answer, you think the person's actions meant more what you thought than what they were trying to describe. You were Wrong!
When all the questions related to the first song have been answered I will post the 5 questions related to the second song, and so on until all the questions to all 14 songs have been answered. If no one gets the song after day one for that song I will give another clue for the song the next day and so on until someone gets the song, which undoubtedly will give rise to the solution to the other questions in the group.
The first set of questions follow:
Good luck, I hope everyone will have fun!
1. If you just got home from Chicago, what would you be doing?
2. Who inspired the parade John was referring to?
3. What street was that parade on?
4. Now somewhere in the Cosmos, what music legend does John mention?
5. Who was this song written for?
At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I'm taking a shot at this.
1. Accommodating an audience.
2. Sargent Pepper.
3. ?
4. Billy Shears.
5. ?
Who's using my blog id?
Sorry Chris, way off base
I love the way you put the questions together. There are subtle things that give extra clues in the questions.
OK. My turn.
1. Showing you around
2.
3. State Street
4.Billy Sunday
5.Frank Sinatra
Give me another clue; cause I'm clueless
It's much easier for me to post greetings than to tackle music-related clues. I'll keep blurking, though. Maybe I'll catch on.
I like your rules, Lou. When I'm solving clues, I often see something different than the quizmaster intended. You get the last word.
Lucy
Wow. Mary Ellen. Not right but one of your answers has part of my next clue in it!!!

How about this Lou
1. Looking Out My Back Door
2. Dr Suess
3. Mulberry Street
4. Buck Owens
5. Josh (John's son)
1. Lookin' out my back door.
2. Dr. Seuss
3. Mulberry Street
4. Buck Owens
5. Josh Fogarty
Lucy maybe totally up in the sky!
OMG, I missed it by a minute!
I think Lucy Wins. If she is still in British Columbia, she is actually one hour in the future ahead of me.
Love,
Marty
OMG I thought it was going to be difficult and there were two answers within a minute of one another. Sorry Louise it looks like Marty got four out of the first 5 right so he gets 4 points. You get one point for having the name of the song right – Marty had looking instead of lookin’. Remember, the correct answers are my answers.
I know Marty will argue that the first question asked ‘What would you be doing...’ but I was looking for the name of the song. Enough said... the score is Marty 4, Louise 1.
Now you see what it is going to be like. All you had to do was to come up with the State that the City Chicago is in and you had the first line of the song ‘Just got in from Illinois....’. There were a few other clues like John, the singer and song writer (John Fogerty) and Cosmos, the name of the album on which ‘Lookin’ out my back door’ first appeared was Cosmo’s Factory.
I guess it was too easy, maybe I better make it more difficult for the next 13.
Well it wasn't easy, Lou, and like I said, you get the last word. I see how the points are going to be tallied, too. That's clever and I'm happy to accept my first point in the contest. Cheers!
Lucy
What!!!
I just tuned in, and the contest is in full swing, with the first part already finished. Didn't get any of the clues and didn't know any of the answers. I may be a spectator in this one. Looks like a lot of fun ahead.
What do you mean, 'make it more difficult'?? Any more difficult and it will be impossible!
Well impossible for me. Maybe not for Marty & Louise. Well-done you two. I'm impressed.
Since I possibly won't get any more, could I get a point for being the first one to see your post? (-:
Next questions will be posted today, hopefully before noon.
OK, here goes number 2
1. You might think of horses when referring to this singer but this particular song of his reminds me of Jack’s great grandfather. Specifically the last verse.
2. Originally a Fidler, this Guitarist was the producer of one the songwriter’s albums.
3. What was that particular album’s name? Like something you might get in Mexico that no-one REALLY wants!
4. Funny, The songwriter was born in one of the places mentioned during our discussions of the first set of questions. Now, what City was it?
5. What was the name of the first band the songwriter belonged to? They sang songs like She Loves You, Please, Please Me and I Want to Hold Your Hand.
HMMMMM?
1.
2.
3.
4. Liverpool?
5. The Beatles?
Correction on #4. Chicago
Ok, so I think this might be a little more difficult. One thing I will say ME is that those are definitely Beatle songs but he wasn't one of the Beatles.
No, Chicago isn't right but you are in the right state.
2. Joe Walsh Joseph Fiddler Walsh
OK. Thanks for the new hints. HMMMMMM.
I'll give you that one BJ but it's Fidler not Fiddler.
1. Dan Fogelberg
3. Souvenirs
4. Peoria Ill.
5. The Clan
Sorry, my spellchecker corrected Fidler.
Let's see, Marty 4, Louise 1, BJ 1, Chris 1 and Mary Ellen 1. I decided I would give one point for the first try at each set.
4. Springfield
OK BJ got 4 right answers so there is only one left!! 2 to 5 are right so now:Marty 4, BJ 4, Louise Chris and ME 1 each.
The first one is always the song BJ
1. Leadre if da bang
Leader of the Band
Oops, I was too late.
You guys are too good!!
So the reference to the horses was Fogelberg's Run for the Roses referring, of course to the Kentucky Derby and Dan joined The Clan when he was 14. They were a Beatles cover band!
Obviously back to the drawing board. So BJ 5, Marty 4, and 1 for each of Louise, Chris and ME.
Oh yeah Jack is my grandson so his great grandfather is Dad, the leader of our band. And Joe Walsh's father died in a plane crash so when he accepted his step father's last name of Walsh he kept his original last name of Fidler for his middle name.
You're the one who is too good, Lou. How do you come up with these clever clues? I have re-read the rules, so I have a better idea of how the clues work, but they are still really tricky.
Yay! I've got 1 point.
Thanks Lui..
Number 3 Hopefullly it'll take longer than 15 minutes.
1. This song has its roots in England. Let’s Imagine knowing everything.
2. This guitarist is credited with getting the beat right which allowed the song to be recorded. Amazing!
3. Somewhere between the boys and the old boys you will find this B song. Really old long lasting individually nice gentlemen.
4. The guitarist in 2 is credited with a song named This ……. And the lyrics of our answer include that ……. Now remember who recorded THAT song? Something that one never eats.
5. I think this runs from Chippewa on down to the big lake they call Gitche Gumme. Or maybe just to the U.S. Border? Or to the Harbour. I don’t know. You should find the Album that our song appeared on somewhere in there.
1. Satisfaction
2. Keith Richards
3. Under-assistant West Coast Promotion Man
4. Rolling Stones
5. Out of Our Heads
David
Coooool
1. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
2. Gordon Lightfoot
3. Summertime Dream
5. All Live
Sorry everyone Monday is pool night and I had no way to answer.
Love the answers but they are all wrong. Maybe I'll even get to give an extra clue or more.
Anyway, Louise gets one more for first legtimate try at the answer.
Thanks for the point, Lou. I was only kidding but it's very cool how you changed the rules to accommodate! I thought I had a chance here 'cause others got it wrong but I haven't got a clue.
You are welcome. If you haven't got a clue then I'll give you one.....
A careful research of New York might.........
Thanks for the point, Lui. Your next clue is no real help at this time and I've got a greeting to post this morning. I'lk check back for the progress of others.
Ciao, Lucy

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, JULIANA AND BRANT!
A Tuesday celebration often gets put on the back burner because of work, school and other daily commitments. We hope you can find time in the evening to celebrate this anniversary of your wedding day, 19 years ago. Congratulations!
Here in Peachland, we'll be raising a warm toast in honor of you and your family of three. You have so much to be proud of because of your life-long commitment to one another and your love for Kahless, Briana and Braden. May the year ahead be filled with delight over their accomplishments and joy in knowing that you are all together in love.
Cheers!
Lots of love,

**19**19**19**19**19**19**19**19**19**19**19**
1. I Kissed Her Ruby Red Lips and Left Her Behind for You
2. Al Kooper
3. Bob The Builder
4. This Diamond Ring
5. Sweet Home Alabama
Ah Marty, my next clue was going to be 'Oh but I ate one....when I was a baby'. I'm sure a few of you remember the story of me swallowing Mom's diamond ring.
However, you only get one point Marty. You got number 2 right. Al Kooper was the guitarist I wanted in 2, and the composer of 'This Diamond Ring'. The only thing is he didn't play guitar on the #3 song.
I should rephrase the end of my comments:
'Al Kooper was the guitarist I wanted in 2, and the composer of 'This Diamond Ring'. You need to reread what question 4 asks and I should tell you Kooper wasn't playing the guitar on the main song we are looking for in this third set of questions'.
I think that sounds a little clearer.
In trying to explain my first extra clue, if I had have said 'Remember everything under nine is only newer' somebody would have said 'Reunion'
Ohmygosh! I'm totally in the dark.
Your clues aren't getting through to me.
I'm trying to come up with something.
Ditto what Mary Ellen said. I am teaching all day today so I haven't had a chance to work on it. Good thing, since it would never have got any of them anyway.
4. Gary Lewis & the Playboys
Hey Marty, where did you go. Mary Ellen scooped your point for question 4. Very Good Mary-Ellen. Oh, that would be VG ME
!. Mr. Know It All
LOL sorry
Well I tried. That's a Kelly Clarkson song.
1. Good Golly Miss Molly
5. Creedence Clearwater Revival
No sorry BJ. I'm looking for the Album Title that the song was first recorded on and CCR's first album was called Creedence Clearwater Revival so that was a good guess.
Can I plead stupidity. Don't I get a point for being stupid because I didn't read the question right?
I might be inclined to give you one but you are tied for the lead.
And besides, I know you are just joking.
Looks like everyone is getting bored with this one so I'll say:
good answers make everyone silly = games
Fishermen use new netting yarn = funny
Marty uses some ice cream if at noon = musician
Now figure out what my first extra clue equals and then check out the original clues. The song title is hidden in the first four of them.
The extra clue = ACRONYM
Now, where do we go from there?
Lucy
Like a Rolling Stone
5.Highway 61 Revisited
That should be:
1. Like a Rolling Stone
3. Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?
Wow, Louise, that didn't take long. Just one solution left. Let's review the rest.
Bob Dylan was on a tour of England and he was somewhat disgruntled with the public's expectations of him and he wrote about twenty pages of prose that, when he returned to the U.S., became the basis for the song, Like a Rolling Stone.
Al Kooper was a guest during the recording session of the song and sat down to play the organ on it. They say he changed the the time from 3/4 to 4/4 and that's what made it work!
I'll leave the comments on the flip side of the single for now.
As we now know, Al Kooper wrote 'This Diamond Ring' for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. If you recall, Gary was the son of Jerry Lewis Dean Martin's old partner.
Now, if you had have googled Chippewa you should have seen Chippewa Park in the first few items that come up. If you clicked on Chippewa Park you would have seen the address as Highway 61 and a reference to Dylan and Highway 61 Revisited. Looking at the map of Thunder Bay where Chippewa Rd meets Highway 61 just a little further north is where Highway 61 actually starts - at Harbour Parkway.
Now get the name of the B side and I'll tell you about the boys and the old boys.
3. Gates of Eden
Hey Marty, you aren't holding back to let the rest of us pick up points are you? Sometimes an answer you give turns a light on for me. How come?
Lucy
Lui, please keep those explanations coming. Even they have me stumped!
You are giving me way too much credit Lucy. I play music, but honestly, I don't even know who wrote half of the songs i sing.
Obviously once you got the song you should easily get the flip side. However, Gates of Eden is also a collection of short stories written by Ethan Coen. The eighth one is called 'The boys' and the thirteenth one is 'The Old boys'. One story is called 'Gates of Eden'and it is the twelfth one - in between The Boys and The Old Boys.
So to recap, BJ, Louise and Marty are tied at 5. Mary-Ellen has 2 and Chris has 1.
Thanks, Lui
You're right - with a little help from "the source" I was able to muddle my way through. How do you know all this stuff? I am learning so much as we go along.
Cheers!
Okay Marty, but please go for it when you do catch on to Lui's fascinating clues. They contain so much info that is really hard to find.
Lucy
Yikes! I'm in awe at you Louise. Lui's clues make the brain work overtime!
Ok, here are the questions for our fourth quiz.
1. I lost her but that won’t cause me to be mean to her. I still want her to be happy.
2. Cats and rats and elephants. This group also had a song written by the same people as our fourth song. What was the group and what was their song?
3. Reduce a bicentennial by 5 and then subtract the result from the year of that little trip down the Mississippi and you’ll get the address of this, arguably the most influential building in American popular music history.
4. The names of the writers of our fourth song are normally associated with the building in question 3, but in reality they wrote most of their early songs in the building across from the one in question 3. What music company owned this building?
5. A high school sweetheart of one of our writers had a huge hit with a tribute song to that individual. Who was this singer and what was the song?
2.Irish Rovers, The Unicorn Song
Nice try but wrong, Sorry. One point for first guess though!
2. Peter, Paul & Mary; Puff the Magic Dragon
Another good guess, but no.
3. The Brill Building at 1619 Broadway in NY
ME you are relentless! and correct. Another point!
1. Take Good Care of My Baby
Holy smokes, ME you are going to take the lead! Correct again.
4. American Music Company
2. The Cascades. Rhythm of the Falling Rain
No ME American Music Company I think is fairly new and based out in the west somewhere. And Rythym of the rain was written by John Gummoe who was a member of the Cascades. The song in clue 2 was written by the writers of our fourth song, which you have already identified correctly.
4. Aldon Music
2. the Animals Don't Bring me Down.
2. The Monkees
Wow, M.e. Well done. By the time I checked the Blog you had solved most of the puzzle.
2. I forgot to guess the song for The Monkees. Daydream Believer??
ME takes the lead with 6 points!
And Betty jo got number 2.Now there is only number 5 left!!
5. Neil Sedaka Oh! CArol
Wow, you guys crushed that one. Obviously I selected Carole King and Gerry Goffin who wrote so many songs I don’t even think the music history pros know how many.
Take Good Care of My Baby was one of their first songs that hit number 1 on the charts and was Bobby Vee’s only number 1 hit.
It is unusual that the Animals had a hit with one of the King/Goffin collaborations because they had kind of made fun of some of their earlier songs. However, Don’t Bring Me Down was the last hit the band recorded as the Animals. After that they took on a harder type of music and changed to Eric Burden and the Animals.
In 1962 there were at least 165 music businesses in the Brill Building. And there were many more in the surrounding buildings . The Brill Building Sound was what the music that was written in about a four block area around there became known as. The Who’s Who of the song writers of the early sixties were all a part of it. Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Sonny Bono, Neil Diamond, Andy Kim, Goffin, King,Hamlish, Leiber and Stoller and many more.
King and Goffin actually wrote their songs mostly in the building across from the Brill Building owned by Aldon Music, a company started by Al Nevins and Don Kirschner, hence the Al Don.
Even though Goffin and King were married when she was only 17, Neil Sedaka and Carole King had been High School sweethearts and his song Oh! Carol was written for her . Goffin spoofed Sedaka by writing the song Oh Neil! Which King actually recorded but which did not do well.
So now Betty Jo leads with 7, Mary Ellen is second with 6, Louise and Marty each have 5 and Chris has 1.
What next??
Lui, You are absolutely awesome. I love the clues because they are so clever and so difficult, and I love your explanations even more. Your knowledge is encyclopaedic. Way to go. I can hardly wait to see the explanation of the next contest. This is so much fun!
BJ, you have hit the nail on the head with your remarks. i agree. Lui is un-friggin-believable!
Its like Marty said. You give me too much credit.
I've always been interested in music so I know enough to be dangerous. The real info comes from the internet.
I almost cry when I think about Grandpa and Dad missing this.
Nowadays they play an online international checker tournament of 256 players in the same time it used to take Grandpa to make one move.

Greetings from us in Airdrie, Alberta where we are being hosted by two families that have spent time with us in St. Andrews. We can't get out on the links here but we are having a good time reminiscing with friends.
A wee dram is definitely in the cards, and we will take the opportunity to raise a birthday toast in your honour. We know that the day will be a special one for you, shared by Bonnie, Jessica and Nicholas. May you enjoy many happy returns of this day in the company of family and friends.
We'll see you in August, eh?

OK this one is number five and we are going to call it Numbers. This time I need the name of each song (5 different ones) and who recorded the song first.
1. Just before blast off. That is cold!!!!!!!
2. 5, 6, 22, 20, 21, 37, 35, 36, 52, XX, next stop Gus.
3. I’ll take three. Very small Muddy Rivers.
4. Kind of Itchy. Is that George?, no Tom?. no, one of their sisters? No again!
5. No, no you are out by one. It might feel like that, but in reality….it’s one less.
1. Rocket Man Elton John
Great guess BJ .....in fact it's cold as hell... but remember the "numbers' aspect of this set of questions. At least you get a point for first guess!!
2. All I Believe in by The Magic Numbers
Hop on the Bus, Gus, make a new plan. Stan. don't need to be coy, Roy
Next number... 50
2. Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover...Paul Simon
1. Countdown Beyonce
Right Marty, Oh Oh now the rest will likely start to make sense.
Great guess BJ, I've never heard of that song though so that wouldn't be MY answer. Sorry
You were right about the countdown though!!
1. Major Tom David Bowie
Explaining Number 2 it was plus 1, plus 16, minus 2, plus 1 plus 16 minus 2.......50. Hop on the Bus Gus, you don't need to discuss much, Just drop of the key, Lee and get yourself free.
Numbers BJ, numbers
10......9.......8.......7.......6
25 minutes to go Johnny Cash
That's more like it!! But sorry, that's wrong too.
I have no idea what you are talking bout Lui, but I am having a lot of fun.
Funhouse by Pink Floyd
Just because you are so nice, I'll give you a hint on the first answer. What do certain aboriginals call it when they sleep outside and its realy cold?
I'll take three (cards)
very small muddy rivers - Brooks
3. Three of a kind, workin(g) on a full house...Garth Brooks
CORRECTION!!!
two of a Kind
Yeah Marty, it's two of a kind, draw three cards and try for a full house. OK now, we need answers for 1,4 and 5.
4. Seven Year Ache Roseanne Cash
No BJ, but you are so close its amazing. The number is right and the singer is female. George and Tom who?
4. Seven bridges Road by the Eagirls
No. and its not Funny......man! either.
Seven Year Itch by Etta James
Gotta run, but I'll be back.
Third straight day of snow flurries. Most people would have flipped out by now but not me. I have a plan. You see I've discovered that snow flakes succumb when attacked with tweasers. Yep. It's like squishing an ant. I have planned my initial attack later tonight. Yep, most people would have lost it by now. Nope...not me...I have a plan....
1. Git Up by D12
Marty,
Not all flakes are snow!
Lui,
I assumed George and Tom Smothers, but didn't see how it fit with your clue.
I'm playing in the city pool championships and won't be able to keep up. Think about country with George and swooning with Tom
Marty, you do have a plan. I can see that you haven't flipped out over the constant snow. Neither have I. My plan is to melt those flakes with my hair blower as they come down. Get em before they land and stick!
Lui,
I just read the clues for the 5th quiz. I think I'll wait for the 6th quiz!
ME check really cold nights only in Australia. I think Marie would love it. Molly, Daisy and now Lucy.
1. One by Three Dog Night
5. Eight Days A Week by the Beatles
BJ you are right on both 1 and 5. Just number 4 to go.
4. Seven Years by Norah Jones
Just to recap Quiz 5:
1. Just before blast off. That is cold!!!!!!! One by Three Dog Night. Vocalist Danny Hutton's girlfriend June Fairchild suggested the name after reading a magazine article about indigenous Australians, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground whilst embracing a dingo, a native species of wild dog. On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and if the night were freezing, it was a "three dog night".
2. 5, 6, 22, 20, 21, 37, 35, 36, 52, XX, next stop Gus. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon. I just made up a progression of numbers that resulted in the next logical number being 50 and then picked out a part of the song that would be a good clue. Unusual thing about this song is that in Feb 1976 it hit number 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart knocking off ‘Break Away’ by none other than Simon’s former partner Art Garfunkel.
3. I’ll take three. Very small Muddy Rivers. Two of a Kind Workin’ on a Full House. Garth Brooks. It would be almost a miracle if you took three cards in draw poker and ended up with a full house. Heck, the clue just made sense to me.
4. Kind of Itchy. Is that George?, no Tom?. no, one of their sisters? No again! 7 Years by Norah Jones. Obviously refers to the seven year itch and the two Jones brothers. NOT!
5. No, no you are out by one. It might feel like that, but in reality….it’s one less. Eight Days A Week by the Beatles. This one is fairly self explanatory.
Great job BJ( 4 points) and Marty (2 points)
Standings
1. BJ 11
2. Marty 7
3. ME 6
4. Lucy 5
5. Chris 1
Oh, and by the way, my clue for Three Dog Night where I said Marie would love it, Molly, Daisy and now Lucy. Most of you know we used to have two Miniature Schnauzers named Molly and Daisy. Well, we are just leaving for Airdrie to pick up our new Miniature Schnauzer Lucy!
Later
A new puppy……….it will get so much love at your house. What a lucky little dog! I love her name.
Love ya,
ME xoxo
Holy Fricoly! Imagine my surprise at 164 comments on the blog. Lucky I didn't wait until April 1 to post.
It's good that a lot of you are here, I've talked to the caterer at Campion and they are unable to do the event and it got me thinking along with Deanie, actually it was more her thinking and me listening. What do you think about having tables with buns, meat trays, veggie trays, some fruit, cheeses, a little bit of baking and so forth, considerably cheaper and we wouldn't have to worry about a caterer showing up. Places like Safeway, Sobeys and Costco make them up, it would just be a matter of picking it up the morning of the reunion. Then we could just snack whenever we wanted throughout the day. Thoughts please.
Hey Lou, I'm having trouble remembering my Latin could you give your clues in English please.
It's not taking people very long to figure them out though.
I'll take a stab at your 6th puzzle though:
1.Working Class Hero
2. Winston Churchill
3. Fred Flintstone
4. New York
5. Whatever gets you through the night
Have a great day
Loved
Love the explanations--so clever. Worth solving the clues just to get the rationale.
Congratulations on the new addition.
Hi ED,
Nice to see you! Hey I think you get 1 point for being the first to answer quiz 6. Mind you quiz 6 isn't here yet but I know Lui gives a point to whoever answers first.
About the food. Your idea sounds good to me. Whatever is the easiest!
Hey Lui, does Ed get a point?
I agree that the food suggestion sounds good. Also agree that Loved should get a point for anticipating contest 6.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZACHARY!
We are sitting in the Calgary airport waiting to board a flight to London. When it comes to the weather, we don't mind moving on at all. Leaving family behind is the hard part.
On this wintery Saturday, we send you the warmest of wishes for a happy day with family and friends. A weekend birthday really lets you have the whole day for celebrating with friends and family. 19 finishes off the teen years for you. May the future be even brighter than the past.
Lots of love,
Louise and David

Well Ed, your questions are so much easier than Lou's! Yes, let's kept it simple with ordering the food and serving ourselves. We think the members of our family who are able to be at the reunion would like that, too.
The Butchers
I like the food idea, Just came from Lou and Marie's and their little Schnauzer, Lucy, is the cutest Lucy we have ever seen...except for our own Lucy B.
I agree with the idea for food. I agree with 2 points for Ed. One for being the first and one for creativity. (Is there a special prize for being last? - 'Just kidding Lou!) Bon voyage, Louise & Dave. Welcome Lucy.
OK here’s number six. Sorry Ed, my apologies, you need to wait until the questions are asked before you can attempt an answer. But thanks, I appreciate the help!
1. Ok, who was it that just about ended up in jail for this song?. Labatt, Molson or Sleeman? If you can imagine!
2. Only in the U.S. you say! Naked in the White House and unashamed!!
3. One of the earliest examples of the subject of the song in question one.
4. It’s a sad, sad situation. It got more and more absurd. Where ?
5. Nashville Now? Not likely! C’mon John, darlin’ – really?
2. Barenaked ladies Band played on the TV show The West Wing
1. Free John Sinclair by John Lennon, who sang it at a rally.
3. Reefer Man by Cab Calloway
4. Nutopia
Sorry BJ all wrong but great guesses. Love the BNL anawer!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NOAH!
This greeting is coming to you from Scotland at the end of our long journey home. We hope your Sunday birthday celebration has been a happy family event so far. Enjoy the rest of your day!
Sixteen is supposed to be a "sweet" time in life. You have already accomplished so much; you are growing in independence and you have so much to look forward to. May the coming year be one of the best in your young life.
Warm wishes and lots of love,
Louise and David

2.Winston Churchill
Right on Ed. You are in the game!
1. Working Class Hero
3. Fred Flintstone.
4. New York
5. Whatever gets you through the night,
BJ obviously figured it out. I didn’t think anyone would catch my little hint ‘thanks, I appreciate the help!’
It was kind of silly but when I started looking up Ed’s first answers it gave me an idea.
1. Working Class Hero by John Lennon, I found out Lennon used the F word a few times and when it was played by WGTB Radio, the then manager, Ken Sleeman, was charged and faced a year in prison and a $10,000 fine, however, the charges were eventually dropped.
2. Winston Churchill apparently had just finished his bath and was in his sitting room when Roosevelt wheeled himself into the room with the great idea of starting an organization called the United Nations. Its reported that Churchill said ‘I have nothing to hide’ but he once said when Roosevelt said ‘United Nations’ Churchill just replied ‘Good’
3. Fred Flinstone. If you check out the history of the show you will find out its about a ‘working class’ family and Fred was definitely a hero in Wilma’s eyes.
4. New York . It was a sad, sad situation bordering on the absurd when John Lennon was killed. My clue actually comes from one Elton John song but he also wrote another one as a tribute to John Lennon called Empty Garden, I’m sure most will remember.
5. Whatever Gets You Through The Night. Another one of John Lennon’s songs that actually uses the shortened version of darling which is definitely associated with country music.
I had to make the clues quite difficult because I knew once the first answer was known, the others would come quickly. I thought Ed would make a quick jump to six but he only got one. BJ picked up the other 5.
1. BJ 16
2. Marty 7
3. ME 6
4. Lucy 5
5. Chris 1
6. Ed 1
What an absolutely clever move, Lui. You are brilliant. And once again, the explanation is great.
Now I really feel dumb.
I knew that you would figure out clues to go with my answers. I just missed the obvious.
Great clues. John Winston Lennon was named after Winston Churchill.
Fred Flinstone worked at Mr. Slates rock quarry, so I figured him to be a member of the Quarrymen, John's original band.
Elton John was featured with harmony vocals and piano on a recording of John's. Elton secured a promise from John to appear on stage at one of his performances if the song reached number 1 on the charts. The performance was in New York at Madison Square Gardens and would be John's last major concert appearance. The song was "Whatever Gets You thru the Night."
Loved,
Lui's cleverness must be catching.
Your explanation of the clues is clever and funny, too.
Fantastic Ed. I think we should start a new game. You give the answers, I'll figure out some questions and everyone else can work on my questions.
We'll call it Double Jeopardy.
This game is getting harder by the minute!
Lucy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SONIA!
Your March 31st birthday finishes off the month with good cause for celebration. We are back in our St. Andrews home where we will pour ourselves a wee dram and raise a toast in honor of you at 43.
Congratulations! Enjoy the day's greetings and surprises from family and friends. May there be many happy returns of this day for you. Cheers!
BTW..we're looking forward to seeing you in August and testing out your backyard pool.
Lots of love,
Louise and David

When I send a message from my phone, for some reason it records it more than once. But in this case I guess that last message deserved to be delivered 3 times. BJ just keeps on trucking. (OOOO, there’s an idea for a set of questions!)
Anyway, the seventh set is solved and was obviously about Rain. The recap follows:
1. Rythym of the Rain by The Cascades. The main clue gives you a force of nature hence the rain and the Ring of Fire is an area around the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanoes are prevalent. The West coast of Canada and the U.S. form part of the Ring of fire and the Cascade mountains stretch south from BC through Northern California.
2. Rain by The Beatles. ‘When the rain comes, they run and hide their heads, they might as well be dead....’ No longer endowed with life. A little poetic license on the name as it refers to the Beat of the music and not a beetle.
3. Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland. Everyone knows there’s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. The ‘disguise’ refers to the song Judy in Disguise and it wasn’t about Judy Garland.
4. Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. Quite often associated with rain, lightning which of course is followed by thunder which sometimes sounds like it is rolling across the skies. And when rain gets heavy, small brooks become swollen and can grow to be like rivers.
5. Raindrops by Dee Clark. ‘.... they feel like raindrops falling from my eyes....‘. 'Dick' Clark is one of the most recognized name in music, giving a clue to the performer's last name.
So, ME, Marty and BJ all got 2 points each. I think I need to figure out how to add more points so the rest of the family can catch up in the second half of the contest.
1. BJ 18
2. Marty 9
3. ME 8
4. Lucy 5
5. Chris 1
6. Ed 1
