There's a large elm tree that lives in my next door neighbor's yard, it's fortunate for the tree it doesn't live in my yard, if it lived in my yard it would be fuel for somebody's fire pit. I've been told I shouldn't talk about cutting down a tree, as it may trigger the Green people, so I asked my Irish friend if he would be offended if I cut down a big elm, he said not at all, he could use it for his fire pit. This big elm is shedding it's seeds and a large number of them are landing in my yard, in fact it looks like snow drifts of elm seeds. It's been a bit breezy this season with wind gusts between 50 to 70 klicks. That's windy even for Saskatchewan. A broom and shovel are out of the question so a high volume shop vac is the tool of choice. It took me an hour to clean the patio and it got me wondering just how many seeds I had picked up. I'm not that good with numbers, unlike my brother Lou, who is so good with numbers he's counted to infinity...twice. So what I did was get one of Deanie's quarter teaspoon measuring devices, don't worry, she doesn't know I put elm seeds in it. It easily accommodated 8 seeds, that means 1 teaspoon should hold 32, now a tablespoon holds 3 teaspoons, so that's 96. There are 16 tablespoons in a cup, 1536. There are approximately 4.39 cups in a liter, 6743 elm seeds in a liter. I filled my garbage container to the brim, it is 176 liters...so I was thinking, if I said to dad, "Dad, I picked up a million elm seeds today". He'd say "Hooww many?" "One million, one hundred and eighty six thousand, seven hundred and seventy five." .....and he would smile.
Have a great day

๐Well, Edward, that is one of the cleverest stories you’ve told๐. I even found myself checking your math➕✖️. And you’re right, Dad would smile๐, just like I’m doing now๐ต..
๐ฎEven he could not have imagined the mileage we would still be getting out his predictable question❓. Sometimes we would deliberately set him up to ask us, “Hooww many?”๐
๐It’s quite possible that 1,000,000 turned over on the odometer today๐
Yep! He'd smile and he'd be very proud of you. When I see "Hooww many?" I think I can actually hear him saying it. Thanks for the memories! BTW - I didn't check the math, but I can think of at least 4 of you that did. Therese, Lou, Louise and BJ? Anyone else?

Great story Ed. I could hear Dad's voice asking his famous question.
We are dealing with a million little pine cones, clogging up our eave gutters. How many? Well it seems like a million. LOL

๐Just for today... MY PROTECTOR, 2018, acrylic on canvas๐จ
๐ฅ”When leukemia surfaced in 1997, my brother came to the hospital and was ready to take the attacker on. The inability to slam something into the wall was finally resolved when he turned out to be 100% match for bone marrow for me, despite only a 1 in 4 chance for a sibling. So he took on 4 days of big needles and flu-like symptoms and donated his stem cells on November 27, 1997 via an intravenous port inserted into his jugular vein. In 2008 he did it again for my third transplant.”(June 12, 2008)
“ ... while I have significant uncertainty about most things, I am absolutely sure my brother will always try to protect me.” (Tricia Antonini - A Visual Celebration of Life Moments, 2018)
Thank you, Louise. I have forwarded your message on to JJ. Ron & I sang Happy Birthday to him on the phone & Chris was able to spend a little time with him & Kali in their back yard. ๐Just for today... EXCERPT, introductory remarks๐ฃ - Tricia Antonini’s 21: June 21/21 years, 2018
๐ฅ “I decided to share some of my experiences with my people and hope that, similarly, my people will share some of their potent lives. What I want you to do is look at the visuals... hear about my context to the visuals... look at them again... think of your own context and what it means to you. Share that with others.” (YouTube video by Mr. Pinvideo, A Visual Celebration of Life Moments, 2018)
Thanks Louise ,
Tricia's Celebration of Life was a totally amazing event. Tricia was very other-centered, always thinking of others and her quote really speaks to that. Thank you. A toast to Life........ A toast to Tricia.

Dear Loved,
I loved your June 1st post. Very clever, very funny and a great chapter for your book.
Dear Louise and David, I see you are toasting with wine. Have you run out of Scotch?
All Fathers in our family; A tribute to all of you for Father's Day.

Cheers, BJ๐ท๐ท
Our supply of scotch is plentiful and varied.๐พ The problem is that the scotch glass emoji becomes an unidentifiable squiggle ๐ฅ when I press “publish”๐. It’s easier for us to drink scotch out of wine glasses๐ท than to solve the emoji glitch.๐ป Thanks for noticing!๐.
LOL, Lucy๐
Well, look at that - the scotch glass is back. Cheers๐ฅ๐ฅ!

๐REMEMBERING BOB BARKER
(August 15, 1938 - June 14, 2020)
๐กTwo weeks ago today, Bob passed away in his home in Ottawa. That is exactly where he wanted to be in the final days and moments of his life. His children, Thomas, Louise, Stephen and Kenneth, have already posted on Facebook an eloquent account of Bob’s life. Thom has also lovingly eulogised Bob in the Smithers Interior News. Both tributes are wonderfully written and easily accessible on line; they simply must be read.
๐Today, on Ed’s Edition, I want to make special mention of Bob’s contribution to the life of the blog. Over the years, he has been keenly researching, recording and updating the Mary and Luigi Antonini Family Tree. It’s a big one, too, giving accurate information on the important events in the individual lives of 166 of us and showing our links to one another along lines within the family.
๐Ever since Edward started this blog in 2007, Bob has sent me a link to the annual calendar which he would generate from the ancestry program containing our family tree. That is the day-to-day tool I use for posting birthday, anniversary and other greetings on the blog - (over 190 of them a year). I am really “getting to know you”. My handy copy starts out crisp and new on January 1 and desperately needs replacement by December 31. I say “Thanks, Bob.” every time I refer to his calendar and am able to celebrate another special occasion with someone in blogland.
๐ณWe are Bob’s family. What Thom writes about his dad in relationship to his own children applies to us, too. In Bob’s lasting gift to us, he has shown “his unwavering support for and encouragement of us in everything we did and who we are. He loved us all deeply”.
๐Rest in peace, dear Bob.
Love, Louise and David๐
Thank you, Louise, for the tribute to Bob
Bob was a wonderful man and will be missed by so many who loved him. I'm not on Facebook, but I read Thom'seulogy in the Smithers paper, and I agree that it must be read. A very beautiful and touching personal homage. Thank you Thom.
One favourite memory I have of Bob is when the Governor General invited him to Calgary for a dinner, and he took the time to come over to see us. Emmanuel was here that day. He was just 3 years old and he and Bob hit it off. Emmanuel was fascinated with Bob and the two of them carried on quite a conversation. Bob treated him with so much respect and equality. When Bob left, Emmanuel said to me, "Grandma, that is a great man." Out of the mouths of babes!
Rest in peace, Bob
Love,
Little Mary Ellen ( That's what Bob called me )
xoxoxoxo
๐That is a touching story about Emmanuel’s impression of Bob๐จ๐ฆ. It brought a lump to my throat, Little Mary Ellen๐ฆ. Thank you!๐
Dear Lucy,
Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Bob. And for the comfort it brings to us. We are grateful for the remembrance and for your kind words.
Love, BJ
Dear Mary Ellen,
Thank you for the story of Emmanuel and Bob. It is so good to hear what other people thought about him. BJ
๐♀️You are welcome, BJ. I wanted to write about Bob on the blog๐ and share the impact he has had on our lives by being such a welcoming person๐ณ and a truly great man๐. He is unforgettable.๐
