Another quiz. This one is very different, no rules. You can use Google all you want, it will help a little. You'll need each other's help, there is not much chance anyone of you will figure all of these out. I am not opposed to accepting clever answers as correct, although each question has correct answers. A point will be awarded for correct answers and some questions will offer multiple points for additional information. For example...if I asked ...Where is there a terrazzo map of the city of Regina in the floor? The Antonini & Sons building would score a point, on Albert Street would get an additional point, as would 1544 the actual address and for another point you could add, it is now the Flaman Fitness business, for a total of 4 points. The scoring will be as follows:
20 - alright, I guess
21-30 that's a little better
31-40 now we're talking
41-50 that's impressive
51-60 HOLY MOLY
61 + You're the G O A T s

This is a great idea for a mixer game at a party๐. (Such a strategy won’t be needed anywhere Antonini’s get together but it will make for fun conversations๐ฃ.) I'll be back
15, We called it Chee's. I'm thinking now that it was Gee's and it just morphed into Cheese. And I'm also thinking Sam's father was not called Chee, but Gee. Do I get any points for all the brain activity, trying to get the right. answer? LOL
Hugs,
ME
The reason I'm stuck on number 15 is because Chee's was where I hung out as a teenager. Sandi Wiest, Thelma Kennedy, Sandy Waters, myself and some boys used to meet there. Memories!
Ok. Robert hasn't figured out how to enter on the blog but he texted me with a couple good answers and has earned some points:
3. Deshaye School (1 point) at 37 Cameron Cres (1 point) across from Betty Jo"s (point already awarded) at 56 Cameron Cres (1 point) she had to go there when St. Leo (1 point) at 4715 McTavish (1 point) closed down and became the Beth Jacob Synagogue (1point). For a total of 6 points
7. Although Tony scored 3 points for naming 3 of the theaters Robert has earned a few more with the Broadway (point awarded) at 1773 Broad St (1 point) Metropolitan (point awarded) at 1701 Broad (1 point) and the Capital (point awarded) at 2035 12 th Ave. (1 point) He and Mary Ellen also mentioned the Roxy at Broad and 12th, I'll give another 2 points although it wasn't one of the original 4, there's another. total-5 points
We'll add these 11 to the previous 37 and we're at 48
Impressive
Ok. you still haven't answered 2,8,9,10,15,17,and 20. However there are a few that you can earn a few more points on. Mary Ellen answered # 20 incorrectly but I'll give her a point for Mother Nature as a point of interest from the cabin. (1 point) still off on Sam's last name. I think you need to get Lou involved. Total 49
I have no new answers at this time but I’d like to add info that could be useful on some items:
12. Our parakeet’s name was Bluebell and Dad unintentionally killed it by using an air spray in the house. (We had actually taught Bluebell to say a version of “pretty bird”.) Its death was discovered by one of us (?) who excitedly announced: “Look, Bluebell is standing on his head”. He was - also unintentionally. Hence the matchbox coffin, funeral procession and backyard burial at 1525 Retallack Street, our family home. Mickey (who lived with his family across the alley from us on Rae St. where he lost a leg by running out in front of a car) did get interested but I was also keen on knowing what was happening to Bluebell beyond the grave. Dad had to tell me to leave the bird alone.
14. Joe’s brother, Pat, still loves to tell this story today. He delights in saying that Tony’s cast did not slow him down in any way and Joe was like Tony’s ‘shadow’. Because Tony ran with a stiff leg, so did Joe. When Tony’s cast came off, he got back full use of his leg but Joe didn’t adjust so easily. To his parents’ dismay (Betty and Art) Joe continued to run with a stiff leg long after Tony recovered completely. Eventually Joe got better, too.
16. Dad’s bread dispenser was not only on the shelf at the top of the basement stairs leading into the kitchen. It was a tall narrow wooden box mounted on the wall so that it formed a chute that could hold the number of loaves needed to feed our family. (Unfortunately some of us opened a new loaf before finishing off the old.) Dad designed and built the dispenser with an opening at the top to allow loaf-upon-loaf to be piled inside. Another opening at its base (on the shelf level) released a single loaf of fresh bread for our immediate use. The other loaves then slid down inside the dispenser to be used as needed. It was a great idea and a novelty to start with but we outwitted it. It did not change our preference for the freshest bread we could find so the dispenser sometimes got clogged with partial loaves.
LOL, Louise
2. I’m really fishing here but I’m wondering if the young girl might be Marie Gunn visiting her aunt (my French teacher at Sacred Heart Academy), Mrs Trapp. Of course, Marie married our brother Luigi and became our sister-in-law.
I found this on the internet.
SAM GEE
86 year-old activist fights for community justice
“It is not that interesting. Just a simple Chinaman’s life.” — Sam Gee.
REGINA — Sam Gee has fought against injustice most of his life and at 86, he continues that fight today.
Sam would be taught how to run the 5th Avenue Tea Room by his father, and he would help the business earn a profit in 3 years.
Maybe he changed his name?
"Sam would be taught how to run the 5th Avenue Tea Room by his father, and he would help the business earn a profit in 3 years. "
That was a quote from a very interesting article about Sam. He had an extremely tough life in China before finally getting here in 1946
Oops. Sorry. He got here in 1952.
Here is a link to his story. He has lived an extraordinary life. Amazing.
https://ccncourstories.wordpress.com/our-stories-features/prairie-and-northern-stories/sam-gee/
Sorry Mary Ellen, my mistake Gee is correct I saw an obit in the Leader Post for Sam Yee who I mistook for Sam. Sam lived in the south end and I would run into him at the Southland mall now and again. He always had a smile and time to talk. I really liked him. I had read the story you referenced, quite a guy. - 1 point total 50
If Louise is right her mom's brother would have been Jimmy and her father's sister could be Vic, Jo. Or even Joan
Louise has added some info.
12. The parakeet's name was Bluebell (1 point) he was accidentally murdered in the family home at 1525 Retallack St. (1 point) The rest of the information gets pretty dark.
14. Great explanation of the story (1 point)
16. Another great recount of the bread dispenser (1 point) total 4
2. Your fishing didn't produce a catch.
50 + 4 = 54 HOLY MOLY
I'm just going to state here that the answers to a few of the questions give hints to other answers. As for when I caught my first fish, it was way more exciting for me than the couple we were visiting at the time and they would have to revive brain files 40 + years old.
You guys are confusing me with #2. Christine got us a point with Mary Clark Wilson. But her answer was good but wrong. My answer was based on the assumption that Russell and Emily were brother and sister and Joan who lived in 1140 until 1953 may have been visited by her father during that time. That answer is wrong so my assumptions are wrong. If Louise is right her mother's brother would have been Jimmy or an un0cle on her mother's side. Her father's sister could be mrs Trap p But, it could be Vic, Jo, or Joan as well. I'll phone Lou
I guess that's a dud too.
20. I found some information about a weather tower of climbing lights that I vaguely remember on the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue in downtown Regina. (I think BJ’s son Thomas has painted a picture that may even have the tower in it). The tower was built in 1962 on top of the Plains Hotel and it used flashing lights to indicate the weather. It could be seen for miles. The blue lights were for clear temperature, orange lights meant unsettled and green predicted precipitation. In 2010, the hotel was torn down and the weather vane was put into storage.
19. The Christmas window displays in Simpson’s Sears had nothing to do with store sales. They were life-sized winter scenes with moving figures of somersaulting children, playful snowmen, animals in action, electric trains and surprises galore. We simply had to go and see the entire store-front of huge windows turned into an animated wonderland for shoppers of all ages.
.
20. I remember a billboard over the CPR crossing on Albert street it showed the weather but I don't remember the exact location or if it actually predicted the weather. McGavins Bakery on 4th and Albert had the current temperature on the Don't say bread, say McGavin's sign but again I don't remember if it predicted the weather
More progress.
Louise has answered #20 with multiple points:
Weather tower (1 point)
Location Albert and Vic (1 point)
Built in 62 (1 point)
Blue lights meant clear, orange unsettled and green meant precipitation (3 points)
Total 6 points for a grand total of 60, I'm amazed. I have been generous with the points but there are over a dozen left behind.
#s 2,8,9,10 and 17 have yet to be answered
a hint for my first ever fish - 47 years ago
think about where you lived
2. Generally, you become a member of another family by marriage. For no other reason, I am going to guess another sister-in-law. This time I’ll try Diane Guthrie who married our brother, Michael, in 1978.
8. Dave remembers talking to you last August about the road trip you and Deanie made to the Yukon to visit us in the summer of 1974. He says you reminded him of the excitement of catching your first fish there. He’s pretty sure it was a trout from Marsh Lake where we had a summer cabin, just south of the city of Whitehorse. The fact that Deanie was pregnant with Holly, and the harrowing details of your trip back home stick in my mind more than the fish that the four of us may well have cooked and eaten. I hope we did! Refresh my memory, please.
17. The concession stand at the Big beach in Regina Beach?
10. Heather attended the synagogue. It was there in number 3 all this time. LOL
Ed mentioned it when he was giving points for answers to number 3.
At least I think that is the answer?]
If not Heather, then it was Holly?
17. Could this be Ed and his grandson? Maybe at his highschool?
2. We have to look at our son's wives as well. Also, does 'spent time' imply one visit for a few minutes or hours, or could this be regular visits? Your brothers are tricky and there's another puzzle coming soon so step on it.
There's some real progress now but you are missing points, not that you need them anymore.
8. Was one of the two questions that assured one person wouldn't get all twenty. I figured Louise would be the only one to get #8 and she did. The Yukon (1 point) summer of 74 (1point) on Marsh Lake (1 point). It was at the cabin and we did cook and eat it, I can't remember exactly how Dave cooked it, I seem to remember wrapped in tin foil. I do remember when it was done he lifted the bones out and it looked like it did in cartoons tail skeleton and head and it tasted great. I won't mention the trip back by way of the Dease Lake highway. 3 points 63 grand total. That's the highest ranking I came up with GOATS
17. Is the other question only Lou would know. He hasn't showed up and he may be able to get you a few more points.
Tony has a puzzle in the works so I'm giving you a deadline of Friday midnight to come up with answers to
2. Who, when a young girl, spent time visiting her dad's sister and her mom's brother on 11 block Garnet Street, later became a member of the family ?
9. Which siblings shared a pair of Twins?
17. Where did Ed and Lui peel potatoes for free plates of fries?
You no longer need 10 because Mary Ellen is correct with Heather (1 Point) she attended St. Leo school which then became the Synagogue. Like Tony said "your brothers are tricky". Now, Mary Ellen also gets a point for mentioning Holly (1 point) because Holly also went to St. Leo. 2 more points - 65
17. LOU guesses the Utopia Cafe, on the north side of the 3000 block Dewdney ave. He remembers it like it was yesterday but he thought it was with Robert. Just kidding
Had I not been so generous with points and stuck to my original answers here's how you would be doing: There were 65 possible points.
1. Joan and Jerry Daly, near the North Portal Saskatchewan crossing. 2 points (Christine)
2. XXXXXXX
3. Cameron Cres. was where BJ and Bob lived before moving to Ottawa. I can't remember the school's name but I do know Thomas started school there. 2 points (4) Mary Ellen
Later on Rob added Deshaye Elementary and 56 Cameron for BJ's address. 2 points (6)
4. Hockey on the south side of the 3 block Mcmurchy, roller of hill on north side of 6th heading towards Bueno Vista. Rinks and locations 4 points (10) Tony
5. 1955 Pontiac ,tan and white with chrome stripes on the hood 4 points Mary Ellen (14)
6. Scott Collegiate. 1 point (15) Christine
7.Broad,Metropolitan, Capital, Broadway. three of the four. 3 points (18) Tony
Yukon, 1974, and Marsh Lake. 3 points (21) Louise
9. XXXXXXXXXX
10. Heather attended the synagogue. It was there in number 3 all this time. LOL
At least I think that is the answer?]
If not Heather, then it was Holly? 1 point Heather 1 point Holly 2 points (23) Mary Ellen
11. Deannie, her mother Reg is Marilyn Eberts cousin, mother of Hayley Wickenheiser. I gave Tony 3 for this but I was only looking for Deanie and Haley. 2 points (25)
Tony also was wrong about Deanie's mom being Marilyn Eberts cousin, but Marilyn Eberts wasn't her cousin, Marilyn Eberts was her niece making Marilyn Eberts Deanie's cousin.
12. Betty Cooper, who owned Mickey, who dug up our parakeet. 2 points (27) Tony
13. Madame Morrensey's Castle. And the lake. 2 points (29 Christine
Tony added Pelican point 1 point (30)
14. Our cousin, Joe Cooper ,who developed a sympathetic limp when I broke my leg 1 point (31) Tony
15. Sam's store was 5th Ave Tea Room on 5th between Robinson & Retallack St. 1 point (32) Chris. Mary Ellen later added Sam's last name Gee. 1 point (33)
16. The shelf in the stairway leading to the addition to 1140. 1 point (34) Tony
17. LOU guesses the Utopia Cafe, on the north side of the 3000 block Dewdney ave. He remembers it like it was yesterday but he thought it was with Robert. Just kidding. 2 points (36)
18. Basement of Butlers Entrance was outside on the south side. 1 point (37) Tony
19. Robert Simpsons Ltd. on 11th Avenue and Hamilton Street where Christine worked in Accounting shortly after high school. Store and location 2 points (39) Chris
In 2010, the hotel was torn down and the weather vane was put into storage. weather tower 1 point, Albert and Vic 1 point, Plains Hotel 1 point, green, orange and blue 3 points, Precipitation, unsettled and clear 3 points total 9 points (48) Louise
3. Kelly Shaw married to our brother, Leonard? She became our sister-in-law.
Sorry, I forgot about Rob adding the addresses for three of the four theaters. 3 points Total (51)
I'm a little confused # 10. has been answered, Mary Ellen got 2 points for Heather and Holly both attending St. Leo before it became the Synagogue. It looks like you're trying to answer # 9 as well with the twin beds at the lake, however those aren't the Twins I'm referring to.
Number 2 says 11 block Garnet. Mom lived next door to Dad. Auntie Fern didn't visit Jimmy and one of Dad's sisters when she was a young girl, did she?
Does anyone know who Fern's dad's sisters were? Or her mother's brothers. Lou figures they may be related to the Gunn's and Pacquin's. So maybe Marcia and Marie should have a look.
I can see you're stuck. I'll think of more hints tomorrow

You don't need to worry about my puzzle yet. I will have copies on Sunday for those Who want to tackle it . Interested? Let me see if I can raise your interest. Firstly, my test group got a good start within minutes, but may be having a wee bit of trouble now. Secondly, you will need a hard copy to work on it. And,thirdly and most importantly, it's a Word Game puzzle about us. This may not mean anything to, or interest, all of you, but will raise the interest of others.
Before the end of the day "My story" And I'm sticking to it.
Hints :
2. The house on Garnet was down the block to the north on the same side.
9. It was a brother and sister who shared the Twins but not any of the 14.
There are clues to #2 within the answers themselves.
2. Deannie is the young girl. Her mother was related to Tony Eberts who was probably her brother. I can't remember a matlock woman we can guess with. I believe the address might be 1108
2. Deanie is correct, Tony Eberts was her mom's brother and Tony's wife Mary was Deanie's dad's sister. Deanie remembers hating King, the dog next door. Deanie, Shirley and Joan get together every year with Pat, Marleen, and Linda for a spa weekend at Manitou. Of course I've run into Ken a number of times at Ebert's reunions. Deanie 1 point Tony Eberts 1 point address 1 point 3 points total (54) points. I figured you or Mary Ellen would figure it out, I think Mary Ellen and Pat were friends.
# 9. The one about the Twins is still unanswered. They lived in the south end of town.
You have missed points on 4, 6, 7,10,15, and 20, that would get you over the original goal of 60+
Before my story I will tell you a little about 'word games puzzles'. It is a word game that is perhaps three years on the market. Penny Press Puzzles was once the only publication where you could find them and there was generally only two a month. It is relatively rare compared to other word games and is quite addictive. Now my story and I'm sticking to it.
I decided early in March, 2022,that I ahould write a puzzle for the family, keep it simple, and make it easy to solve . It got guite complicated and drove me crazier than I was. It also is one of the most enjoyable project I have ever done.
Once I got close to the end of March I sent it to Penny Press to get their input. Their first reply was "Is this an April fool joke". Their second missive was a day or two later "I doubt if there is more than half a dozen people in the world who would get this, even our AI computer is stumped". I replied "you're wrong, I know 13 people who can solve it and they are not Artificial or Interestested in your opinion,so send it back". When I got it back I had to solve it again because I had forgotten a lot of the answers and where my papers had gone. MORE TOMORROW

Great quiz Ed ! And, congrats to everyone who got involved.
Ed's quiz was wonderful fun and extremely creative. I feel a little more comfortable now about distributing my puzzle tomorrow as planned . One disclaimer "The names have not changed, but the events and answers may have been altered to protect the writer".
Now the true story.
I did start writing this in March and I have gained a new respect for writers. And,
I didn't submit it for publication, but I do have a test group. Lou and I. (We ran out of potatoes and had nothing else to do, except golf). When I finished the puzzle I thought I would test it myself and that I would time how long testing the accuracy of the coordinates so that I might be able to give you guys an idea of how long solving it may take. Bad idea, in the first hour I spilled my water reaching for my stopwatch (TWICE). and broke Carol's hourglass reaching for my coffee. So I phoned Lou and he agreed to test the the solving (Carol had already decided there would be no more "timing bs"). Lou does not do word puzzles as a rule so I thought he would be perfect for the job. Here are some of the test group's comments:
1. Me (not ME, she wasn't in the group) -'Don't leave me I can't clean worth a ***'
2. Lou - 'great puzzle..Definitely not easy'
3. Lou - got the first one right away, and three others on the first read
4. Lou - as you work back and forth the less obvious get easier.
Any questions? See you tomorrow
And yes Pat Eberts and I were friends. I should have got this one!
Thanks for the fun quiz Ed. It brought back lots of memories.
Now we will see what Tony has concocted. It sounds like it may be very hard!
Love,
ME
xoxo
Ed, Marie remembers the Roxy at 12th & Broad, one block north of the Broadway on the same side of the street. She says it was beside Queen City Cleaners. Maybe there was five.
That's right, a few of us remembered the Roxy but it wasn't one of the original four. The Broadway was on 17 block Broad, The Metropolitan was on the corner of Broad and 11th, The Capitol was corner of 12th and Scarth and the Rex was 17 block Scarth.
Lou and Marie, Mary Ellen and Rob both mentioned the Roxy, so I did give a point for the Roxy and added one for the location when I was giving points for good answers. They had scored well over the 60+ points to earn the GOATs title but had missed some important answers. Both you and Marie must have remembered Sam's second store at Parliament and Montague. I don't know if you remember the potato peelers we used at the Utopia, I seem to remember it was the first time I had seen one of those so common today. If I had used a regular knife there wouldn't have been enough potato left to do one fry.
Ed : I 'm back this morning, and I've got to say I'm glad they had peelers or you may have bled out and I may have two fewer brothers. AND, I cannot imagine the blog without you. TOEKNEE

๐Just for today… A POTENT LIFE 2018, Acrylic on canvas๐จ
๐ฅ”I believe that we are all canvasses walking around in life, and the degree to which we engage the moments of life determines how potent our canvas becomes. Our friends, family and experiences colour our own masterpiece… It matters not how big the paint spatter is. Saying a few words to a stranger in an elevator, travelling to places we dream of that we really can’t afford, or really talking to our family and friends when we see them contributes to the potency of our life.” (Tricia Antonini - A Visual Celebration of Life Moments 2018)
