WOW ED,
How did you do that? I'll be watching "Chapter 5 " for more pictures from the gang. Thanks Ed!

Love,

While Ed was solving the uploading pictures problem, I was writing in Chapter 4. I hope everyone got the message.
In any case, there are now several hundred pictures at: http://flickr.com/photos/10588159@N03/

These pictures are compliments of Don, Marcia/Dennis/ Stephen and me. Hope you enjoy re-living the party through the pictures.

Graunty Louise, here, Ellie

Great-Grandma and I have been thinking about you ever since your special day began.

Happy First Birthday, Ellie! May this be just the first of many, many more joyful, loving family celebrations.

Lots of love and prayers,
Great-Grandma, Graunty Louise and Gruncle Dave.

But how do we post pictures? Should we do that on Uncle Bob's site?

Holly Gustafson said...

Thomas, I'll put Jamie on the mission of finding you a job! He works at career services at the university and has a heads-up on the job market.

b@bigdog said...

Holly, thanks. Ideally, I'd want to work at the Leader-Post, but I'd take something else to get Lorraine out of Northern Health. Does Jamie have an email I can send my resume to.

Holly Gustafson said...

His email address is james.gustafson and then @ and then uregina.ca - hopefully that foils those "Nigerians" mining websites for emails addresses to send their scams and spams to...

b@bigdog said...

BTW, hope we didn't offend you, Holly, with our little practical joke about Stephen not making it at the last minute.

Wow, I didnt realise that we were already done 4 and onto 5 already... So I will post again on this page.

I just wanted to let everyone know that "Tricia's Trotters" have already raised $2130.00 for the Leukemia Light the Night walk on September 29th. If all of our team members raise their individual goal, our team will be donating over $5200.00 to the walk!!!!!! Wow!!!! If anyone else would like to join us on the walk (you dont have to raise any funds to participate) go to Tricia's blog where you will find a link.

On that note, I just want to say that our family is so generous and supportive and I am so proud to be an Antonini.

Okay, I've got the official line on the cousin relationships. As I thought, Ellie and I are First Cousins, Once Removed.

Happy first birthday, first cuz, once removed.

Good morning Canada,
Are we posting on 4 or 5? I check both every time I open, but would like to go to just one or the other. What is everyone doing now that the reunion is over? I am back teaching. This weekend is the big hot-air balloon festival in Gatineau, so I will be out chasing balloons. Bob has a bad cold so will be staying in watching tennis, hockey and some track and field. We are also awaiting the arrival of Louise and Steve. They should be home by Saturday or Sunday.
Love to all, BJ

kbub said...

bj: Good morning Canada

Me too?

bj: What is everyone doing now that the reunion is over?

Working.

Following the Deutsche Bank leaderboard online (6 under through 16 are you kidding me? Go Mike!)

Learning to play the piano again.

Marcia said...

Hey Family,
Is the reunion over?!!?? Oh no!

I am back in Victoria, watching Tennis and golf.

Dennis has a cold too. From what I hear, a few people are under the weather. My grandkids too. It must have been quite a party!

We are looking forward to seeing Len and Kelly out here. It's good to have that to help with the reunion withdrawal. We are going to go to Nanaimo to take in Campbell's game on the 8th.

Have a good Labour Day weekend. I'm sure it will include football for all of you Roughrider fans. Me too!

Love, Marcia

Louise and David said...

Lucy here,

BJ ... like you, I check both 4 and 5 each time I come to the blog. Once we have all caught on to the change, I'm sure that we'll stay on 5.

Can you believe that one week ago today we were just gathering for a weekend of fun? If we ever thought that the real thing might not live up to our high expectations, were we ever wrong!

We got to enjoy 8 months of anticipation and four days of loving togetherness. Alleluia! Amen!

Now, our day-to-day living goes on.

Luv, Louise

lets just stay on chapter 5 now everybody, i'm not sure why it got changed from 4 to 5 like it did, does
anybody know?

i've been working b.j., but i'm going to enjoy the long weekend off.

good job tricia's trotters on raising that money for cancer research, maybe they'll find a cure for leukemia real soon - hope hope

Hi everyone. I think we changed to 5 so that we could post pictures? I'm not sure how it works but I love uncle Bob's site with all of the pics on there.

We are all down with a cold also.. hmm... can you tell that there were a lot of people in one room for a long time? Miss everyone and love you lots.

Cousin Barb

Holly Gustafson said...

We all have a cold as well! Well, every time I wipe a runny nose I'll consider it a little momento of our reunion!

Ellie had a nice birthday, though I doubt she recognized it as a day any different than any other. I'd post a pic if I knew how (does anyone?)! Eddie starts kindergarten today - neither one of us is very excited about it. This weekend we will be enjoying the hot weather at home, and taking in the 20th Annual Duck Derby out at Lumsden! The commencement parade consists of about 5 vehicles, including the mayor's car, the firetruck, and the high school band on the back of a flat-bed trailer, but they all throw candy, so we're not complaining!

A long time ago I suggested to Heather that someone should organize some sort of website that so we could keep up to date with what everyone in the family is doing - I guess now we have that!

Holly Gustafson said...

My pics are on Facebook - I'll transfer them to Uncle Bob's site!

b@bigdog said...

In the absence of Ed (where is our fearless leader?) I will try to provice the answer to B.J., Mike and Holly's questions.

Ed created Chapter 5 in an attempt to allow for photo uploads. The problem is the same one I encountered way back when I created the Part II confusion. You put photos in a new post, but not in a comment (although I think you can link to external pics in a comment using some simple HTML).
That's why I created my Barking at the Big Blog site.
You can still send me stuff to post there, but I think my dad has already solved that problem with his flickr site.

b@bigdog said...

In answer to B.J.'s other question, I am having a vacation from my vacation. As great as it was, I'm glad I have a few days before I have to go back to work.
I slept in yesterday and today, but get this, both days I opened my eyes, looked over at the clock and it read 9:26.
I watched some tennis (what an outfit Sharapova was wearing), golf and baseball.
We visited with some friends
Today I'll probably unpack, work on mine and Kenneth's new album liner notes (did I mention our new album KICKS BUTT!), watch some more golf and get ready for the labour day classic GO RIDERS!

b@bigdog said...

Hey Kbub, do you think Mikey is trying to justify his inclusion on the President's Cup team. Hope he can hold it together for another three days. Tiger is +2 through six holes.

kbub said...

b@bigdog: Hey Kbub, do you think Mikey is trying to justify his inclusion on the President's Cup team. Hope he can hold it together for another three days. Tiger is +2 through six holes.

+1 through nine, now. Why does it feel to me like Tiger is safer at +1 than Weirsy at -6?

Anyway. Better go refill my glass, etc.

Holly Gustafson said...

Thomas, when I was going to school in Wpg I used to wake up at 8:35 or 8:36 EVERY SINGLE DAY! This went on for months! Nowadays I am woken artificially, usually by Lui, usually an hour earlier than I would care to be.

b@bigdog said...

Tiger can't seem to sink a putt to save his life today. Otherwise not playing badly, but you're right KBub, he could easily explode while Mikey blows up. We'll see.

ed said...

Ok. Ok. Sorry, sorry, so I screwed up with the picture idea, like my nephew out in Smithers says...I'm over it.

Reading the blog today, one of the lines I enjoyed the most was kbub...Learning to play the piano again.

I'm trying to find something to occupy my mind since the reunion ended. Maybe I should learn to build a kite that actually flies.

Or...I should learn to play the guitar, for the first time.

ed said...

I just got an email from Louise and Steve, they must know something I don't know because it looks like they're on the wrong track home. They're on Manitoulin Island of all places waiting for a ferry, or as Steve would call it... the Great Canoe.

BJ said...

Ed,
Louise and Steve wanted to stop on Manitoulin Island because of the Indian history. They have been to the famous Wikwemikong Pow Wow there and had planned to stop there either on the way to the reunion or on the way home.

it's hard to believe that this time last week we were sitting around the fire at the beach and listening to some great tunes!

now i am sitting at the table listening to jacob teach himself to play the saxaphone....ouch. this is very painful. if it wasn't dark outside i would go cut my lawn....

football! atom game in weyburn tomorrow, then the rams game, then just going to have to listen to the rider game on the radio on sunday..... we didn't get tickets!

oh, please someone teach the kid to play....oh no, now jacob is teaching jordon to play the sax so they can plan a band concert. i'm going to look for my flashlight. the noise bylaw doesn't kick in until 11pm. Not sure if I'll get a ticket for the saxaphone playing or for the lawnmower.

Everyone can thank me for not picking up the sax until this week. He may have tried to perform at the reunion....

the concert has begun i must go now.

b@bigdog said...

Well, it's shaping up to be a great weekend for football. The U of S is kicking some Alberta butt 39-6. I just heard the Rams game is going to be televised tomorrow and, of course, 1 p.m. on Sunday, our Roughies take on the Boo Bummers.

Woo hoo!

You're right, it just keeps getting better.

I'll have to check to see if Green Bay is also in action.

Louise and David said...

Sonia ... you have us laughing again over images of your sons giving their first saxaphone concert and you mowing your lawn by flashlight.

Holly ... how was Eddie's first day at school - for him and for you? We've heard about Lumsden's famously fun Duck Derby. Will the Rider fans among you be sporting transistor radios?

Bob ... Mom has already seen the reunion pictures you have posted. Dave set them up as a slide show for her to watch while I curled her hair. She is delighted and so are we. Thanks to you and to all the photographers who sent you their pictures so quickly after the event.

Cold catchers everywhere... Grandma is sorry to think that your first memento of our reunion weekend is a runny nose. As ever, she's praying ceaselessly for your good health and happiness.

It goes without saying that Mom hated to say good bye to her family; she misses having everyone around her.

Don't we all?

LOL, Lucy

Good morning Canada and Texas

This blog is a font of information. Islands, pow wows, sax players, noise bylaw? I didn't know, I'll have to talk to the teens next door about that one. They wanted me to quit practicing my guitar at 3am this morning. Football...a ton of it...well I guess that would be a bunch of tons of it, but, Thom and Kenneth missed the Vancouver Island Raiders game tonight at 7pm with Campbell Antonini calling the signals.

As kbub would say...I'm freakin pumped.

ed said...

If you've just had a great reunion and you return to your hotel then sit in the lobby waiting for relatives to stroll in......you might be an Antonini.

For anyone who has a msn hotmail account, you have access to MSN Messenger and can send (to others who have hotmail accounts)huge files. So, for example, if Holly wanted to get her pics mounted on my flickr account, she could put her pictures in a folder and just drop the whole folder in a share folder in MSN Messenger. I would retrieve it and mount it on flickr. I have this going with my Calgary brother for other purposes and it works just fine.OTHERWISE, just send me pictures via email - I have a broadband account and a pretty fast computer so I suspect that the longest part of the job may be your sending them and not my receiving them. In any case, whatever I get I will put up and then advise all of you when I have done so.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Holly's and Lindsey's pictures on Facepage and they are, indeed, very worthwile seeing.
I hope this solves a problem and does not add one.

I will vouch for the beautifulness of Austin. Sometimes I really miss it. Then I look out the window at the mountains surrounding me.

I REALLY miss the food, though.

BJ said...

Thomas,
Holly was talking about my suggestion that we need a new contest. Our family tends to go a little crazy on puzzles and contests, so I guess it IS a bit like opening a can of worms.
Austin is beautiful; we loved it, but maybe it was the company we were keeping.
BJ

barb said...

Mmm.. all this talk about the beautifulness of Austin... makes me want to visit Houston! That's where my brother Martin is. Sigh... Calgary has it's own beauty, I think, despite the fact that Martin phoned yesterday and told me it was 39 degress C outside in the evening. :)

mmmmm...

kbub said...

Hey. I didn't know Martin was in Houston. I had to travel to another country to find out about a website where I could go to learn that I have a cousin who lives just down the road.

Crazy.

barb said...

Hey Kbub.. yes.. it's funny, isn't it? We have such a big extended family that we are spread EVERYWHERE! Martin has been in Houston for almost a year now. He managed to come to Calgary for a quick visit a couple of weeks before the reunion, but because he travels with his job and had a trip the same week as the reunion, he couldn't make Regina for the reunion. Some days Texas feels so very far away.

Hugs to Texas (and to everywhere else that there are Antonini's)

Christine even predicted the last play! These local Rider fans really know their team.

After the game, Ron served us turkey supper with all the trimmings. It felt like Thanksgiving.

Go, Riders!

Love, Lucy

b@bigdog said...

Yes, Luce, that's what it is, I smell Grey Cup. That last drive was reminiscent of Ronny Lancaster (except for the quarterback running the ball into the endzone on the last play... brilliant!)

Looks like almost a clean sweep yesterday.

VI Raiders 32... Victoria Rebels 22

U Texas 21...... Arkansas State 13

Too bad about the Rams and Mikey Weir, who pretty much shot himself out of both the tournament and the FedEx Cup yesterday with a 74.

Yahoo! The entire flock has returned to roost.

As for me, it's hard to believe I am down to the last day of my vacation.

At least it was a good one. Spent the morning just puttering around then Lorraine and I went for a nice walk ALL the way around Smithers (about an hour). Watched a very exciting finish to the Deutche Bank. Congratulations Phil Mickelson, not too many players survive a final round pairing with Tiger and win. He deserves that number 2 in the world ranking he just earned with the win.

Now, I have a very aromatic shrimp curry simmering on the stove for supper in an hour or so. Mmmm mmmm.

I hope there's something interesting going on at the courthouse tomorrow to help me ease back into writing the news.

b@bigdog said...

Oh my, I hope this silence isn't an indication the blog is dying. It's my first day back at work and you're leaving me little option except to actually work.

Louise and David said...

Lucy here,
September 4th seems to be a slow day on the blog. Mom(Grandma/Great-grandma/etc.)saw her doctor this morning. Among other things, he asked her about the recemt reunion weekend with her family. She talked about being overwhelmed by the presence of the 100+ family members and friends who came to celebrate with her. He told her how lucky she is to have such a large and loving family. The sparkle in her eye said: "I agree!"

Love, Lucy

b@bigdog said...

Grandma updates are good.

Mary Ellen said...

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the up-date, Lucy. The reunion did bring a sparkle to Mom's eyes, and to about 100 other pairs of eyes as well. I loved being with the whole clan and am missing that wonderful coming together. It was so short but spectacular!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Don't be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.
-Richard Bach

This kind of takes the sting out of missing everyone. I know we will meet again, sooner or later. I'M COUNTING ON THE SOONER! I know we will have little visits with each other, now & then, and here & there. Mini reunions will be happening as people visit each other, talk on the phone, send emails and letters, even in our thoughts! Enjoy every encounter!

Love ya,
ME xoxoxooxoxox

Louise and David said...

Once again, Mary-Ellen, you have found just the right quote to bring a moment of insight into the dismay we are experiencing in saying farewell.

You might think that 65 years of comings and goings would have taught me that a good bye comes before the next hello. Thanks for the reminder.

Your timing is perfect. David and I are flying to Scotland on Thursday night. Good bye Canada, until we meet again.

We'll be in touch on the blog, of course.

Love, Lucy

BJ said...

Mary-Ellen,

Tricia Antonini said...

Holy Toledo! The blog is on fire! It took me a week to get back my energy to post on my own blog, and catching up on this one almost as long! A few responses to the many many lovely posts...

I too have recently learned to play the piano - Dad too, as he got a keyboard for us and I bought some music books...we're loving it!

Okay Thomas - how many cousins do we have? My numbers are wrong I think but I don't know that yours are right either! You know you're an Antonini when you don't know how many cousins you have.

My sweet Ellie - belated birthday wishes - there are so many wonderful photos of your sweet smile on my camera.

Mikey's unfortunate day 3 and 4 last week saddened me but I am still excited for the next two weeks going to 70 and then 30 for $10Million! They'll be a few more going for the pin!

I'll try to send my pics to you Bob on messenger - I have about 55 of the kite-flying alone!

Kenneth I am coming to Austin Oct 12-14 for that Lance Armstrong event and will have my details next week so I'll let you know!

The request for contests...mmm...maybe I'll have another sleepless night again and put something together!

Lindsey's nice advertisement for my Tricia's Trotters team was appreciated - she herself has raised over $1400 already (she failed to mention this) so she deserves lots of credit, as well as for doing that amazing compilation of our family "manual blogging"

I sure got a lot of energy from seeing all my angels at the reunion. When I introduced the contest, I meant to thank everyone for their prayers as that was likely why I was able to attend the reunion. So, belated thanks for all your prayers!

And thanks for all who helped arrange, plan, roll rice krispies, caramel corn, unplug beach toilets, play piano, sing, strum, reserve space, clean, set up, load, laugh, visit, cry, smile, share stories, invent stories, find golf prizes, travel with big golf prizes, lose keys to golf carts (and find them:)), have and love and nurture a large family (grandma and grandpa), eat fish and chips, take pictures, pose for pictures, maintain the campfire, run with kites, fly kites, fetch fallen kites, drive cars with kites out the windows, host relatives, pray, cry again, and smile again. It was magnificent.

Good night Canada, Texas, California, Scotland

ATTENTION BLOGGERS

My Antonini Family tree file, even as a .pdf, was over 30 MB which made it practically impossible to send around by email. I now have the 2008 version of Family Tree Maker and for some weird and wonderful reason, it allows the production of the full tree in .pdf and the size is miniscule comapred to the old version.

So anyone who is a family member can have a copy via email and the size of the file is only 664 KB - even the slowest of your computer systems should be able to handle it. Just send an email asking for a copy. Also, please spread the word among the non-bloggers.

Speaking of the Riders, my official prediction is they will finish the season in first place with 28 points to B.C.'s 25. The Lions will finish off Calgary in the Western semi-final setting up the final at Taylor Field where our Roughies will launch their way to the Grey Cup with a 22-18 victory.

In the East, Winnipeg will manage to hold onto the first place spot (based on strength of remaining schedule). However, Montreal will hammer Toronto in the Eastern semi and ride that momentum to the championship game.

Look for a Sask-Quebec final and get the champagne ready!

Holly Gustafson said...

And now, Thomas, your prediction is recorded here on the blog so when you're right (let's hope!), you can say "I told you so!"

b@bigdog said...

Okay, so I've got the family tree and it looks like there are actually 36 cousins. Don't know where all those other numbers came from.

Anonymous said...

Thom you called it - Brian & I also predict Sask in the final and as most of you well know - the Grey Cup's in Toronto! Come on everyone - under the SkyDome, weather is not an issue - let's have another mini-reunion "Grey Cup style" in Toronto - whaddya say?!

Anonymous said...

P.S. We are not above bribing - we'll provide the champagne!

marty antonini said...

Hey Thomas

Good contest.

My prediction is:

Western Final:

Sask 40 BC 32

Grey Cup:

Sask 33 Winnipeg 31

Let it be written...

Marty

b@bigdog said...

Marty, great prediction, it's always nice to have dissenting prognostications.

What's your feeling on where Sask is going to kick the Lions butts in the western final, B.C. Place or Taylor Field?

marty antonini said...

Hey Thomas

I'm guessing BC will have homefield advantage, but it won't matter either way 'cause there are just as many Sask fans in Van.

...those dissenting prognostications aren't as bad as the measles but I think they may be harder to get rid of...

Good morning Canada, Texas, California and Scotland.
It's good to see the blog is continuing, but some of us are missing. Where is everybody? I am back to a full teaching schedule and looking forward to Kenneth and Johanne's visit later this month. I know Vic is in Regina and Lucy is on her way to Scotland. Is everyone back to work and too busy to blog?

Good morning everyone,

I have no excuse for just blurking except that I'm still reeling from reunion withdrawal. I can't wait to meet up with the group in Calgary on the 29th.

We went to the Lumsden Duck Derby on the weekend and there were about 5000 people there and I knew about 7 of them...that after spending a weekend with 100 people and I knew each one. Whoa! I'm reeling again.

Sonia said...

Well, I didn't get a call telling me that I won something in the Duck Derby....guess my duck was being too social, hanging out in the back of the crowd, making some friends, forgetting he was there to win. I'll get a different duck next year.

I can't even begin to make a prediction for the Riders, I took a random stab at picking some NFL teams in a $5 pool the other day - this should be fun.

Hi everyone,

Dennis and I are looking forward to seeing Len and Kelly tonight. They are coming through Victoria on their way to Nanaimo to see Campbell play football this weekend

It's nice to have these mini-reunions and we have to appreciate any time we have together. Then when we share the memories of it with others, they become a part of it too. In this way, we stay connected.

I'll be anxiously awaiting Lucy's return to the blog. Hey Louise and Dave, I hope you had a good trip back.

We are enjoying the best weather we've had all summer(??) Been watching lots of tennis.

Keep blogging. It's good to know you're out there....

Good Morning Everyone,

Like Ed, I'm still suffering a bit from reunion withdrawal. We'll get a bit of a fix at the end of Sept. when we go walking with Tricia's Trotters at "Light the Night". See some of you there!
I've been blurking and enjoying the comments.I also love the pictures of all of us! Thanks to all the photographers!
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
A good snapshot stops a moment from running away!
-Eudora Welty

Yesterday, reading Ziggy, I thought of the video of the 7 brothers trying to fly the kite. The cartoon shows Ziggy running along with his kite trailing behind him. The kite does a few flip-flops, and keeps landing on its nose. Finally, Ziggy, quits trying and says," I'll never understand how that expression ' HIGHER THAN A KITE' ever got started!!"

Marcia, Thanks for the picture - it's great and I've already got it in a frame and on my end table. Love it and you too, little sister.

Lucy, I hope your trip back home went well. We'll be watching for you on the blog.

Lots of love to everyone out there in blogland,

Hey,
Thanks for answering my plea. It is great to see so many of you on the blog again.
Marcia,
I love your take on mini-reunions. We do stay connected by sharing them with others once they are over. Have fun with Kelly and Len. Also, many thanks for the photo; you sure didn't lose any time in getting them to us.
Mary-Ellen,
Your quote (as always) fits the occasion perfectly. Your Ziggy story also fits, and is hilarious.
Ed,
Thank goodness you are back--I was about to organize a search party. I should have known you would be at the Lumsden event.
Lucy,
We can't wait for you to be out of transit, so we can hear from you again.

Lucy here,
Dave and I are in Scotland now. We appreciate all your wishes for our safe travel and happy arrival. Our flight was on time leaving Calgary and one minute early on its arrival in Glasgow. The sun shone brightly on all of Fife as our bus neared St. Andrews.

Our next-door neighbours greeted us warmly. Peggy even baked us one of her delicious cakes to welcome us home. Janet provided milk, butter and jam to tide us over until tomorrow when we will feel more like shopping for groceries.

We'll blog more later when we can think more clearly.

Woo hoo! A football contest.

I'm putting in my request right now (you all know I'm right). I need a painting of three people in a canoe for my new album cover.

West Semi: Cal - BC
East Semi: To - Mtl
West Final: BC - Ssk
East Final: Mtl - Wpg
Cup: Mtl - Ssk (winner Ssk)

b@bigdog said...

Rule #4

If you don't pick Saskatchewan to go all the way you're ineligible (even if you're right) and possibly excommunicated from the family.

Holly Gustafson said...

I wholeheartedly agree with Rules #3 and #4! I'll get Eddie to help me out - he picked all Jamie's NFL pool picks and won him $35! (Granted, he was judging the teams solely on their names and logos - for example, a panther could definitely outrun a ram, and a team of giants would easily beat a team of cowboys... well, it worked anyways!)

marty antonini said...

Hey Thomas

I assume that by your response to the contest that you are in favour.

Good stuff.

I will include one more rule. (just in case we get more than one person participating. Oh...and I do agree with Thomas on rule #4.

Rule #5:

All participants must also submit a final score for the Grey Cup Game. In the event of a tie between participants in the original game, the person(s)
with the closest guess to the final score will win the tie.

PS

Hey Thomas, I said "Miniature painting". What do you want? stickmen in the canoe?

...just joking...
if you win, you will get 3 people in a boat.

Oh...Mike! I will take your guess as your submission unless you would like to change your original.

#1 - Sask & Winnepeg

Thank You.

Oh...and for those of you who didn't know, ME wasn't kidding when she said she won all those paintings at the art shows. SHE IS SCARY when it comes to these things.

So... in the event that she wins anything, I will return all entry fees and send you all a painting...NOTTTTT!!!!Ha Ha Ha Ha

Thanking both Marty and Mary-Ellen in advance, BJ

Hey BJ

Nice Job on the posting, thank you.

Sorry, but Mary Ellen is eligible so you will have to win fair and square...BUT... have no fear because everyone thinks they know about football and THAT don't mean &#@%*#. It truly is a crap shoot. You have a great chance.

Hey Y'all

New Rules and deadlines:

Rule# 6:

All guesses must be posted on the blog to be eligible. Do not email Marty or phone him with your submissions...well, you can phone him if you want to, but only to talk about good people and such.

Rule# 7:

You can use any of another person's guesses but you have to post your OWN Final Score of the Grey Cup game. ( People who read the blog regularly may have an advantage ).

Rule# 8:

People who live in Marty's household are ineligible to play.

Deadline:

All submissions from all contestants must be posted on the blog by Friday Sept 21, 2007.
For those of you who have posted your guesses already, you can change them if you wish but they have to be posted by the deadline.
All others may only post once.

Note: There are advantages in posting now or later.

Here I am, up at the ungodly hour of 6 am on a Saturday morning. Mother Goose visited during the night and laid a goose egg on my head. I shouldn't blame Mommy Goose though, it just that it adds insult to injury accepting the blame myself. A measly half hour before quiting time yesterday I managed to play tag with a chandeli...no a chandelier is one of those delicate things made out of glass. This light fixture was more like something out of Star Wars. Stainless steel probing 30 cubic feet of space, I only hit the bottom 4 square inches...oh yeah...I guess that's 3 cubic meters and 10 square cm. Anyway, after making first contact I quickly thought of making second contact but at $5000 or $6000 riding on my decision I had to succumb and be content with licking my wounds...well, I couldn't lick them, they were too far up on my head, I had to let the dust settle to help the blood clot. I still looked pretty good from my forehead down but I had nothing on Dr Franks monster above that. Monday I'm taking a sheet with me to drape from the fixture, only the very bottom of the fixture can make impact with my head so when I hit the sheet I'll have seconds to react. I think it's genius, you know what they say, Genius is the mother of invention. Ok. Ok. So I smacked my head on an elephantine light fixture, alright, I'll change it...necessity is the mother of invention.

Lucy here,
We are barely back 2 days and David is out on the links again. I am dragging myself around, trying to stay awake during the day so that I can sleep at night. This jet-lag stuff is too real!

Vic ... thanks for passing on Mom's love and prayers. Tell her that I need lots of both.

M.E. ... Blake's poem is one of my favourites. I haven't read Ramel's version but I know instinctively that, no matter what, it can't compete with the power of the original.

Marty ... you have lots to keep track of as the football season progresses. Some of our predictions are in close competition with one another. I look forward to viewing your miniatures when they are ready. I am not nearly as confident as Mary-Ellen about winning one, especially with her in the running. She's one lucky lady!

Ed ... Ouch ... that bump hurt even in the telling!

Just 5 hours to bedtime now....
LOL, Lucy

Mary Ellen said...

Hi Lucy,
It's wonderful to see you on the blog and I love your comments!
I agree with you that William Blake's TIGER, TIGER poem is fabulous and Ramel's version is only a serious parody of the former. Ramel's purpose for writing this parody was to show that no matter how ferocious the tiger is, the human species is far more dangerous! The title of his parody is actually TYGER, TYGER, REVISITED.
I see you realized that I was hinting strongly to Marty that he might as well start my Tiger miniature that I'm Wishing, Wanting and Willing to Win. Whew!

I love Lucy and all in Blogland,

I hope everyone ties because I am in a painting mode right now getting ready for the Stampede 2008. Having too much to do is a good way to hone one's sword.

By the way, I love robins, tigers, wolves, bears, doorknobs, etc...so imagine how much fun this is for me.

Thomas,
I love your quote. It is so true.
Love Mom
Marty,
Sask will beat Montreal in the Grey Cup by a score of 35 to 19. You can send the miniature to BJ. she will see that I get the prize. Make it an artist's choice and surprise me. Your secret admirer.

ed said...

You might be an Antonini if you're more excited about getting a Marty Miniature than Sask. winning the Cup.

b@bigdog said...

Ed, interesting comment. Since everyone except "traitor Dave" picked Sask for the Cup, if they don't win I think he's got it. If they do, it's going to be like a seven way tie.

Don't worry about me, I've got backup plans for my album cover. Although, if Marty wanted to paint three people in a canoe and just send me an electronic version, he could then sell the original. He might even make an extra 50 cents on it because it's an original of one of my album covers.

Mike, I was hoping nobody would ask me which crappy movie. Not because I'm embarrassed about watching it (or, at least part of it) but because as soon as I say it in a quasi-public forum, someone will be like, what's he talking about, that was a great movie.

Then again, I routinely slam all kinds of stuff in print in my column, so what the heck? It's called Pathfinder. Not my cup of tea, let's say. But that was a good moment, I'm glad I saw that.

Happy Birthday, Stephen! 41 seems so young from my perspective. Have a good day today. May you enjoy another full and satisfying year in the days, weeks and months that follow this Tuesday, September 11, 2007.

Lots of love, Louise

QUOTE OF THE DAY;

The other day a man asked me what I thought was the best time of life. " Why," I answered without a thought, "NOW."

Happy Birhday Stephen!

What a beautiful day it is here in Calgary. Thinking of everyone, wherever you may be.

Love,
ME xoxo

Happy Birthday Stephen!

It's a beautiful day in Victoria too. Thinking of you all wherever you are.

Len and Kelly left this morning. Len kept saying "I still haven't seen a cloud".

We had a lot of fun with them. Campbell's team won the game too. 40 - 3.

Thomas, I knew I had seen the movie because I remembered the line. It's a great line. Don't remember much about the movie...

Lots of love,
Marcia

Hey Lyndsey

Ah yes, going for the crossover in the Eastern Final...tricky...

Hey Kenneth

Gazoontite

Love,
Uncle Marty

lindsey - the only thing i don't like about your picks, is that you picked calgary. the edmonton crossover to the east just gives me a better chance at MSA minitures, because the crossover will never happen, but would'nt it be nice if the crossover went the other way and calgary and edmonton missed the playoffs "yahoo"

Thanks for the birfday wishes everybody. It's raining in Ottawa but I don't mind, it got me the day off.
What is this Grey cup of which you speak?
By the way, Kenneth is picking Montreal but is afraid we will ostracize him.
N'oubliez pas, nous sommes bilingue a Ottawa

B.C vs Cal - Cal
Cal vs. Sask - Sask
Tor vs Wpg - Wpg
Wpg vs Mon - Mon
Mon 42 Sask 45 OT

I don't care what you paint me Marty just make sure it is really BIG

We will ostracize Kenneth if he picks Montreal.

Lucy here in St. Andrews,
Campbell ....40-3???? Whoa! That's an impressive win any day but especially in front of family.

M.E. ....I once advised a younger brother that the best time of life was yet to come. I prefer the idea that NOW should be the hour!

BJ .... Do you really think we fell for that secret admirer bit about forwarding an MSA original? Your desperation is showing.

Marcia .... My beautiful family picture arrived the day before I left Regina. It is now displayed in a grey stone frame in the front room of our St. Andrews home. Thank you!

Thom .... We didn't miss your Happy Skies song. In fact I sang right through it with memories of Roy Rogers riding off into the sunset on his trusty horse, Trigger. We're honoured by your personalized version.

Marty .... Christine has already claimed the lost glasses that I reported on the blog some time ago. Sorry about that. Keep looking elsewhere for your spectacles. Can you paint your miniatures without them?

Holly .... I love the series of pictures showing Eddie at various moments during his first day at school. His face tells the tale even without your fitting captions. He'll be a veteran member of the Kindergarten class by now.

Sonia .... how did you spot that plug about the toilet? Good eye! .... very good pun!

The sun went down a few hours ago here and now it's time for me to go down, too. Good night!

Believe it or not, I have a few riddles for recalling reunion weekend events with a bit of fun and a lot of thanks.

Here's the first:

CAN YOU NAME THE YOUNGEST THERE?
AND THE OLDEST? (PLEASE TAKE CARE)!

LOL, Lucy

BJ said...

Lucy,
I am going to guess that Elisabet Gustafson was the youngest there, and that Frieda Schuett was the oldest.
Good night everyone.
Love, BJ

Hey Kenneth I will email you details but I'll definitely have time to see you in Austin in Oct

I also tried to translate your French phrase on Altavista's Babelfish website and this is what it returned:

(Va t'on me chialer si j'prends Montréal?)
You one goes me chialer if I take Montreal?

So what the heck is "chialer"?

Holly Gustafson said...

Kenneth, we would never ostracize a member of our family! Incessant verbal abuse, perhaps, but never ostracism...
