I've got one for y'all. I'd love to see the answers to two concepts I've coined, comfort TV and sport eating.

Comfort TV is a show or shows that you will turn on even if you've seen it a million times just because it comforts you in times of sickness or sleeplessness. For me, it's M*A*S*H and Law and Order.

Sport eating is when you've had your fill, but continue to eat well beyond the point of sustenance just because... For me it's curry, just can't stop.

This is what I wrote on Kenneth's blog, after I read his recent news. By the way, Kenneth is playing the piano again. LOOK OUT!

Hey Kenneth

You did some amazing production with those songs. David Foster eat your heart out! Cool stuff on your site. Nice shot of you on the piano and thanks for the praise.

By the way, For anyone else reading this, I am Kenneth's uncle that he talked about on his site and I have been playing piano for over 30 years professionally and on that note, I have always felt intimidated in the presence of my nephew.

One day, while I was visiting my sister BJ (Ken's Mom), at their home in Ottawa, I heard Kenneth play a piece by Tacacs, (pronounced "to catch") a composer that I'd never heard of. I was so impressed with how Kenneth played the piece, I wanted to learn it myself. He gave me the music and I went to work on it. Well, to make an already long story short, it was like trying to climb Mt. Everest in monsoon season in my underwear.
Trust me people, a sleeping giant has awoken.

I can't wait to hear you lil bro.
Love,
Uncle Marty

Hey, welcome back everyone who responded to my "where is..." question.
Lucy,
Wow, I go away for a couple of hours and when I get back we are already part way through a new contest. I should have known you would be busy with Christmas and all.
Thomas,
My comfort TV is M*A*S*H and Medium. My sport eating would be French Fries.
Kenneth,
Loved what you said about Marty.
Marty,
Loved what you said about Kenneth.
Hi Mike,
Welcome back.
Mary Ellen,
Of course, you knew the Christmas carol. You keep Christmas always in your heart.
Love, BJ

Marty, dang. Thanks for the kind words.

I really regretted not being able to sit down and play something (anything) at the reunion. So I vowed to start practicing again, with the goal of playing piano in public by Christmas. And last night I played in a little recital here, so I just barely made it!

Photographic evidence and a short description of the recital in a new post at the Art Facts blog: http://art-facts.blogspot.com/

Thomas.

Comfort TV: Bond movies. Does that count? I don't own any Bond DVDs, and I wouldn't even say I'm a big James Bond fan. But for some reason, if any Bond movie comes on, I watch it. I think when I was a teenager they would always show one on Sunday night and Stephen and I would watch them. I think this counts.

Sport Food: Pizza. Hands down. No contest. Thanks for playing. I stop out of embarrassment or shame. I have never in my life not wanted another piece.

Louise and David said...

Lucy here,
We have just returned from another Christmas visit with a neighbour. It's clear that the family blog site is busy tonight.

First, Thom, your three carol titles are correct. So....here's the next set:

7. A I A M
8. T L D B
9. I D J

Lucy

Louise and David said...

Next:

Comfort TV ... you'd think it might be "I Love Lucy" but my top choices are "Murder She Wrote" and "Agatha Christie's Mystery Theatre".

Sport Food ... Vic's caramel popcorn, preferably authentic (made by Vic) but also imitation (made by me when Vic isn't around to play ball).

LOL, Lucy

Louise and David said...

Finally, Good night, all ...

I'm still doing more blurking than blogging. I really enjoyed reading comments made by Marty, Kenneth and BJ, too. However, I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to explore new entries on Ken's art-facts blogsite. I already know my way there but it's well past my bedtime here in Scotland.

Luv, Luce

b@bigdog said...

Bond movies, that's a good one. It seems all the more appropriate when it is something intellectually suspect.

For example, if we were to also add the concept of comfort literature, I would have to admit I still read Archie comics when I can get my hands on them.

Hi All,

Comfort TV: Watching old Columbo movies. Favorite Present program: Medium

Sport Food: I have to agree with Kenneth here; pizza for sure. It would probably be Vic's popcorn except it's not available to me very often, and I can't make it for myself.

LOL,
ME xoxoxo

Hi everyone,

Been blurking, but couldn't resist the topic of comfort T.V. and sport eating.

Comfort T.V: "The Last Unicorn" cartoon movie, based on Peter.S.Beagle's novel.

Sport eating: In all honesty, McDonald's Cheeseburgers!! Yikes!! Kenneth, I am completely on the same page as you are..I have never stopped because I had to..just out of embarrasment. I could always eat another gross Cheeseburger. Yum.

Hugs and love to all.

Cousin Barb

Nice work, BJ! You solved while I slept.

How about these three?

10. O I R D C

Comfort literature:
A Wish for Wings that Work- an Opus Christmas story by Berkeley Breathed You've got to read this one. BJ gave it to me years ago, and I re-read it every Christmas season. Thanks BJ!
Agatha Christie murder mysteries - I can't begin to count the times I've read them. By the way, I have every single one she wrote, thanks to Lucy finding a few that aren't available in America. A few were only published in the UK and Louise managed to scout them out in Scotland. Thanks, Lucy!

Oh, BJ, you are too smart for me! Even when I make a typo error, you get the right answer. You get extra marks for THE 12 EONs OF CHRISTMAS.

I'll be more careful this time:

19. S T N
20. W T K O O A
21. J B

23. M A W
24. H Y A M L C

Good night, now. I'll look for 4 titles first thing tomorrow morning. At the rate we're going, the 30 Question Quiz will be completed on Christmas Eve. How appropriate!

LOL, Lucy

22. O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

At least I got one!

Comfort tv: none. I don't like watching tv shows or movies I've already seen, unlike my husband who watches Seinfeld and Simpsons whenever it's on, and has seen Smoky and the Bandit over 70 times. Now that some time has passed since I watched some of these shows, I can watch The Cosby Show and Friends reruns (but I won't watch the reruns again if I've already seen them recently).

Sport eating: Barb, I'm with you, McDonalds french fries and Coke Slurpees. I don't know how much I would eat if I could eat/drink all I want, but it's always more than I allow myself each time I have them.

24. HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS

Louise and David said...

Okay....
That's two more answered correctly!
Nice work Holly and Kenneth.

S T N and M A W await solving but here are three more to play with in the meantime:

25. L C D A C
26. D T K I C
27. F T S

b@bigdog said...

YES, ME... Columbo, if I could get it, would definitely be comfort TV.

b@bigdog said...

Given the time of year, I also have to add The Sound of Music to comfort TV. I can't remember a year I haven't watched it at Christmastime.

Just got back from Bonnie and Rob's, a lovely little Christmas gathering. It was wonderful to see all who were there and we were thinking of those who are far away. I can't believe I'm not one of the ones who is far away.

Tricia Antonini said...

Hilarious. Mom and I just reading all of the comfort TV and sport foods and LOL! We were also going to guess on some of the Christmas riddles but it looks like smarty-pants BJ got them ALL! Mistletoe and wine????

Add Pretty Woman and National Lampoon's Vacation to the comfort TV/movie and movie popcorn to the sport food.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Holly Gustafson said...

I also agree with ME and Thomas about Columbo - if I got it, I'd watch it, especially since I haven't seen it in years. We get it in French, but it wouldn't be the same...

Louise and David said...

Lucy here,
Your determination paid off, BJ. You not only answered the two "stumpers" but solved the next set of three as well.

So...we are down to the final trio now:

28. A F T R O G
29. L I S, L I S, L I S
30. W W Y A M C

Louise and David said...

Lucy, again

How could I forget "Columbo"? Yep, he's "comfort TV".

I'm making a list of "comfort literature", too. Familiar and new suggestions are urging me to dust off my Fife library card.

Tricia and Marie ... it was fun to read your Christmas Eve blog entry. Just last week, Dave and I watched "Pretty Woman". On Saturday I sat through "Fiddler on the Roof", relishing my tears and laughter.

Kenneth ... I often drop in on you at art facts for music and musings. I must urge family bloggers who have not yet clicked onto "kbub" and then onto "art facts", to do so. You are in for a treat!

Holly and Barbara... we have to drive all the way to Dundee to get McD's french fries and cheese burgers. It's well worth the drive, though. When we make the trip, we are not as self-disciplined as the two of you seem to be.

Thom ... thanks for thinking of those of us who weren't at Bonnie and Rob's Christmas gathering. You make us feel less far away by keeping us close in mind and heart.

BJ said...

Yes, Columbo for sure. Didn't you and I used to watch it together, Thomas? That was part of what made it fun to watch.
Tricia,
I didn't answer ALL of the carols. And I do have the advantage of having tons of Christmas music and CDs. And you know that puzzle gene so many of us have... hard to resist a challenge...
Lucy,
Thanks for the 2 Christmas contests. I kind of thought A L S would be the last one. Guess why.
Love, BJ

Louise and David said...

BJ,
I understand why you might have expected Auld Lang Syne to close a carol contest from Scotland. If I'd thought of it myself, I might have made a substitution.

Anyway, together we identified all 30 of the song titles on the contest list. I think if my friend, Margaret, had won the £10 prize I would have heard by now.

Even without the carrot of a prize, bloggers on Ed's Edition gave the answers with speed and accuracy. Well done!

Merry Christmas everybody.

The family got together yesterday for Christmas at Rob and Bonnie's, there was great food and great company with lots of conversation and laughs. We ate too much and stayed too late.

Comfort TV? Don't ask. Actually one I can share is The Princess Bride.
Sport eating? Could be popcorn (has to have butter)...but really, anything for the slurpee to wash down will do.
Comfort Lit? I saw a play titled "Trying" at the Globe Theater. I enjoyed it so much Heather gifted me the script. I've had it for a year, have read it 6 or 7 times, if I pick it up I can not put it down.

Since you mention Columbo. He told a joke in one episode that killed me.
There was a man lurking down the street wearing nothing but a trench coat, stark naked underneath, up to no good. When he encountered two jewish ladies he planted himself in front of them and spread his coat open wide. One lady looked at the other and said, "Oye! What a lining!"

Now I'm going to move you over to Part seven because I have a picture for you all to enjoy.
