Wow, you guys are tough acts to follow. HAPPY BLIRTHDAY, Ed's Edition. What a great opening as we go into our second year. And what could be more appropriate than Lucy and Dave being the first to post?! It forecasts a great year on the Blog. I am wondering and anticipating what will appear on the Edition this year.
Nice start to the second year! Is that a new addition to the blexicon I see?
I going to give you another number challenge, only this one is really tough. I'll start you off with no clues, you'll get a few...we'll see. Ok, just one clue...only one is an address.

Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday dear blog.... Happy Birthday to you.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it. -H.E. Luccock
Happy Blirtday to the blorchestra! Together, we make beautiful music!
What a great start - Ed's birhday picture & Louise's verse are awesome. Then there's Bob Barker's face looking at all of us - how did he do that?? Looking good, Bob! We have a poem from Sonia, Louise Barker's blirgin entry, Ed's new contest, a comment from Dave "Blalien" Butcher, and greetings from BJ, Ken. & Barb. Man!
By the way, Marcia, I loved your "Knock, Knock" joke. What a great way to end the old thread on March 17th. I loved how you posted it in 5 entries - clever girl. Now, I have one for you.
"Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Stopwatch." "Stopwatch who?" "Stop watch you're doing, and give me a call!"
Ed, We sure like the picture of your desktop decorated to celebrate the birthday of the blog. In fact, just for today, it is the background on our computer screen. Love, Lucy
Well, a very respectable turnout, including 6 regulars, 3 semis, 3 blurkers and 3 blirgins, by my count... oh yeah, and one vicarious Scot. I don't think we're going to set any records, though, neither for diversity nor volume.
I played the Old Course this morning, shot a 94, not very good except when you consider I was 12 over after 3 holes (took a little while to get used to the simulation.
In Regina all day, which is why I'm so late getting to HAPPY BLIRTHDAY! I'm not even going to try for any stats except that I'm pretty sure Lucy is still #1.
We enjoyed all of yesterday's celebrations: ...Ed's bright new posting, his too-tough contest and his subsequent clues; ...BJ's positive forecast for the next blog year; ...Bob's surprising photo to accompany his unique and grateful greeting; ...Sonia's creative version of the birthday song (as well as her firm request for puzzle hints); ...Marty's birthday greeting ... period; ...Steve and Louise's first blog postings - hurrah; ...Barb's all-around hugs; ...Mary-Ellen's enthusiastic response to everyone and everything - (you never have to knock girl); ...Blephen's blunny blomment and ...Kenneth's blart reply (beyond his birthday wish); ...Margaret's relayed message; ...Thom's late appearance, birthday stats and puzzle solutions; ...Holly's family greeting; ...Lui's closing wish and ...our host of Ed's Edition blurkers, always in the background.
Good morning.... Ed.. BJ's Blexicon (60)+ Addenda (21) + (3 or 4)new ones = 84 or 85... It's my lucky day (maybe) I'm off to the links to shoot that.. Cheers Dave B.
We awoke on the first day of spring with a fresh blanket of snow! However, it's just a light dusting that should be gone by the afternoon, so it's less like a "blanket" and more like a light cotton sheet compared to the two layers of down comforters BJ has in Ottawa. Or has it all melted now, BJ, with your warm spring weather?
Anyways, Happy Spring everyone! It's always a glorious thing after our Saskatchewan winters (and this one was especially cold and long-lived)!
Yes. David gets the last answer. I read BJ's posting about the blexicon in the last thread but I wasn't sure if Blirthday was included or did she come up with it in this thread.
Very good job on a tough puzzle.
So David, I hope you shoot that or maybe even a few better.
Ed, Blirthday was new in this thread, so the answer was 84. Nice work, David.
Holly, Yes, the snow is melting, but we still have loads of it. The city has plowed but not removed the snow except in the core area and major arteries. The mayor wants to charge taxpayers $50 each for snow removal. He is calling it a surcharge because he promised no tax increases when he was running for mayor. Needless to say he has a lot of people mad at him. The melted stuff is moving into basements, pot holes, and city streets. There are a lot of unhappy people around.
Mary Ellen, What an appropriate quote for today! Especially after yesterday's party. Let's party some more, bloggers.
Wow, it sure feels nice being considered as a young one. Seems a little misleading with the clue when I count 4 40+ers and 1 50 year old(at least). Also, after 415 cm of snow removal I ain't feelin' like a spring chicken. I think Bled is showing a little favouritism towards one of the sisters with his selections.
Not so Stephen, The names in Ed's two quizzes are those of us who made an appearance at the blog birthday party on March 18. If anything, a certain sister's family is showing favouritism to the blog! Lucy
You'll have to teach the rest of us how to do that picture thing. We tried it a few months back and managed to make a showing on the original post only. Lucy
Actually the answer was 85. There are often hidden clues in my puzzles. The 84 was for the original blexicon and add ons pointed out in Betty Jo's last blog entry on the old thread. I posted the quiz after her "Blirthday" entry which added an 85th. "Or should I say 85?" was a hidden clue. I'll admit the quiz was tough but you blogsters were up to it. Congrats, another impressive performance.
Betty Jo...I'm kicking myself in the ass..embly for not getting Holy Cow. I should have got Vic's as well. As for Bob's, I was probably never in the situation he could say it to me.
Name the literary classics these first lines came from:
Dorothy lived in the midst of the great Kansas prairies, with Uncle Henry, who was a farmer, and Aunt Em, who was the farmer's wife.
I WAS born in the year 1632, in the city of York, of a good family, though not of that country, my father being a foreigner of Bremen, who settled first at Hull.
Mr. Sherlock Holmes, who was usually very late in the mornings, save upon those not infrequent occasions when he was up all night, was seated at the breakfast table.
On the first Monday of the month of April, 1625, the market town of Meung, in which the author of ROMANCE OF THE ROSE was born, appeared to be in as perfect a state of revolution as if the Huguenots had just made a second La Rochelle of it.
Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow,
The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Three Musketeers and Anne of the Green Gables. What happened? Did I miss some entries, someone would normally have answered by now and added a new one!!
Mr. Phileas Fogg lived, in 1872, at No. 7, Saville Row, Burlington Gardens, the house in which Sheridan died in 1814.
Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would have known that trouble was brewing, not alone for himself, but for every dog, strong of muscle and with warm, long hair, from Puget Sound to San Diego
I am by birth a Genevese; and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic.
Ed is right on #2. #4 could be farmer: Don #7 could be horticulturist or landscaper: Stephen (Writer is too literal) And here's one more: A cowboy ______ needs a stage coach.
Nope, try again. You got 7 points out of a possible 11. I gave half a point for the occupation and half for naming ONE person for that occupation. For example. You got half a point for truck drivers, and half for naming a family member. You don't get half for EACH member you named. Try the last one again. It will be so obvious once you get it. Singer wasn't bad, but there is a better answer.
Louise, you got Stampede, Garnet, Depot, heritage, and Tulip correct. There is a key you must figure out, you could get help from all 14 with this one including you...and... the answers will give you an answer.
Impressive Louise. As far as the answers relating to each other, try this...take the letters left over in each answer and anagram them for a bit more fun. In a case or two you'll have a couple initials left and maybe double up on a letter or two.
Stephen...the mystery photo? Regina Beach, Friday August 24, 2007, Family Reunion Weekend. Someone snapped a shot of Edward taking a picture of the sunset over Last Mountain Lake from the end of the pier at the Little Beach.
Oh! Louise, you missed on Royal Canadienne Cadet. This is the one, by the way, that should give you the relationship of all the answers. So close to home too.
Wow, good work on the puzzle, Lucy and Stephen. Yes, Marty, cowboy ACTOR is the correct answer to who needs a stage coach. I'll leave the string of numbers to the accountants in the family, but will try to figure them out in the meantime. Hope everyone has a great day.
The following are all actual titles of books. If the titles were autobiographical, which family members could have written them. For example: The Pianist could have been written by either Marty or Kenneth.
1. Human Behaviour and the Weather.
2. The Prayer Chest
3. Black Cabs
4. Home Comforts. Art and Science of keeping house.
5. A Novel Idea
6. A Hole in One
7. The Kite Runner
8. Shampoo Planet
9. Down on the Killing Floor
10. Dancing in the Rain
11. Love Your Patients
12. My Mother, the Cheerleader.
13. The Maestro
14. The Chalk Giants
15. Trans-Sister Radio
16. A Chorus of Voices
17. Swimming Laps in August
I haven't figured out your number puzzle yet, Stephen. I'll keep trying.
Holy cow, it's just like the old days around here, stay off the blog for a day and fall sorrily behind. Is it the anniversary or is it Easter?
In any event, congrats everyone for re-invigorating the family e-comm-line and Happy Easter.
I'm not even going attempt to chime in on any of the puzzles... I'm so confused, they're so fast and furious, I don't even know what has been answered and what hasn't.
Your answers are all good (and correct), although I had a couple of different ones. I had Paul Butcher for a Hole in One, Lou for Chalk Giants (pool cue chalk) Mom for the Prayer Chest and Dad for the Kite Runner. Both Ed and Rob fit Down on the Killing Floor, and Lindsey could also have written, My Mother, the Cheerleader. Jo MacDougall was my choice for Swimming LAPS in August. Still, I give you full marks for your choices. BJ
Stephen,
Your cake was beautiful AND good tasting. I had part of the ear. Your turkey was delicious, too. You celebrated both your grandparents today as Grandpa always cooked the turkey when we were young.
Ed, the cities involved in your contest are: Calgary:Stampede,Eau Claire Market, Heritage Park Ottawa:Rideau Canal, Tulip Festival, Regina: Garnet St, Holy Rosary Cathedral Saskatoon: City of Bridges St. Andrews: Royal and Ancient Golf Club Victoria: Butchart Gardens, Juan de Fuca Strait
They are all cities that Antonini siblings are living in.
I think Lucy and David must have gone to Aberdeen or somewhere.
BJ...we are here in St. Andrews having one of those days that just slips by unnoticed. Dave played the Old Course this morning and I did a bit of housework and laundry.
I couldn't go to bed without dropping in on the blog, though. Good night, now. Tomorrow's another day. Love, Lucy
Funny thing, after my appointment with the dentist I walked past the Christmas Shop on Main Steet and the sign in the window read 275 days to Christmas. By then I no longer needed such a calculation to create happy thoughts for me. Lucy
Late last week I paid 50p for a Quiz being run by the Save the Children Charity Shop. There are 24 questions and the answers are all toys or games. Easy peasy, I thought. Not so.
I need some help but, be warned, I don't have many of the answers myself. I'm counting on you to give them to me so that I can enter the contest on May 1. If I win the £10, I'll let you know.
Here are the first 6: 1. Rotating at the summit 2. Be Hobbit Ruled (anagram) 3. Beware the vipers when scaling the Board 4. This Homosapien gets things done 5. No MOT, no road tax just hard work 6. Named after an American President
7. Catches this rodent 8. Mutator 9. Violent destructive wind 10. Note Think Methane Gas (anagram) 11. Con came to help build this 12. I have a vertically challenged equine
That's just the half of it! If you get anywhere at all, I'll post the other 12 clues. If not, I'll scrap the quiz. Thanks!
Wow! With 6 answers already posted, I'm ready to put the rest of the clues down. I should have known my blogatives would give this a whirl, even without feedback. 6 down, 18 to go.
13. Le drab boil (anagram) 14. No Competition 15. Stellar Battles (one of the two I have been able to answer so far) 16. There was always one on Brucie's belt 17. Re-nattiest cleric (anagram) 18. Brassica born and bred 19. Doing plod pal (anagram) 20. Step into the customer 21. Arachnid male (the second of the two I have been able to answer so far) 22. Small member of the Hawk family 23. Limp tar one (anagram) 24. Measures your breathing?
Gosh, we are already more than half way through the Quiz and the entry date (May 1) is over a month away. Keep it up. I just have to say it ... DOE DUG ANY ROOM!
Sure Holly: So far we have: 1. Rotating at the summit: spinning top 2. Be Hobbit Ruled (anagram): Bob the Builder 3. Beware the vipers when scaling the Board: Snakes and Ladders 4. This Homosapien gets things done: Operation 6. Named after an American President: Lincoln Logs 7. Catches this rodent: Mousetrap 8. Mutator: transformer 12. I gave a vertically challenged equine: My Little Pony 13. Le drab boil (anagram): Barbie Doll 14. No Competition: Monopoly 15. Stellar Battles: Star Wars 16. There was always one on Brucie's belt: cuddly toy 17. Re-nattiest cleric (anagram): electric train set 18. Brassica born and bred: Cabbage Patch Kid 19. Doing plod pal (anagram): paddling pool 21. Arachnid male: Spiderman 22. Small member of the Hawk family: Kite 23. Limp tar one (anagram): trampoline
Not yet answered are: 5. No MOT, no road tax just hard work (By the way MOT is Britain's Ministry of Transport required inspection of vehicles) 9. Violent destructive Wind 10. Note Think Methane Gas (anagram) 11. Con came to help build this 20. Step into the customer 24. Measures your breathing? (BJ has suggested this might be a toy stethoscope?)
So, we are now just 6 answers away from completing the quiz. LOL, Louise
I wouldn't necessarily trust all the answers are correct. For example: Operation, I figured the guy on the board is a homosapien (a homo sapiens to be more accurate) and players of the game do things to him... however, don't know if it's right.
Boomerang is good, but I have to make a case for "cuddly toy".
The tv show Generation Game was hosted by Bruce Forsyth, whose nickname in the media was "Brucie".
Part of the game show involved a conveyor belt with prizes on it. And no matter what other prizes were there, there was always a cuddly toy. Here's what Wikipedia says about it:
"At the end of the show, one member (or in later series both members) of the victorious team watched prizes pass on a conveyor belt, and then won as many as could be recalled in a set time. A trademark of the show was that a cuddly toy was always among the prizes. This led to an affectionate joke: "Dinner service...fondue set...Cuddly toy! Cuddly toy!", which is often quoted whenever the show is mentioned."
That's brilliant too, Kenneth. I have to admit, I had never seen the show or heard of Brucie. It would certainly fit, and would be one of the trick questions I was talking about. I vote for this one.
Kenneth ... this is also the year of Brucie's 80th birthday. He has been featured on many talk shows here in Britain. Wherever Brucie goes, there is old footage of the Generation Game. When you guessed "cuddly toy", I had one of those why-didn't-I-think-of-that moments. I entered your response with glee.
I never expected to have an alternate answer for that one. Now, thanks to Ed, a boomerang is in the air. That's what I mean about this quiz not being as easy-peasy as I thought it might be when I paid 50 pence for it.
Whatever else happens, this part of filling in the blanks is a lot of fun.
Vic tells me that after Elvis recorded Jailhouse Rock, Lego made an Elvis figure in a con shirt. Could this Elvis Lego be the answer to the clue Con helped build this?
Stephen ... thanks for the latest suggestion for an answer to #24. "Balloon" does make sense.
BTW ... for a couple of days we have been featuring the "before" picture of your rice krispie bunny, so now the "after" shot is on our desktop ... just for tonight and just for the fun of it. (BJ claims that she had a piece of the ear. Mmm, Mmm good).
BJ ... I'm ready to consider anything on this last tough clue. Sorry seems to fit better than Aggravation but then I wonder why there is a reference to a customer?
Stephen ... I think I like Action Man for #4. Lucy
Lucy, How about Playmobil Supermarket or Playmobil Grocery store? I like the supermarket better; it has both a vendor and a customer, although I still don't know about the stepping into. And I think Action Man is perfect for 4, Stephen.
Stephen, It is bound to be a while before your sock monkey disappears from our desktop. It makes me smile every time I look at our computer screen. Lucy
Looks like evryone has been having a lot of fun with the latest puzzles & quizzes. It's also been a lot of fun looking at all the pictures you're putting on. Thanks. What a crew!
QUOTE OF THE DAY: A GOOD AND WHOLESOME THING IS A LITTLE FUN IN THIS WORLD; IT TONES A BODY UP AND KEEPS HIM HUMAN, AND PREVENTS HIM FROM SOURING. -MARK TWAIN
Maybe its too late but I was thinking there's a puzzle called Blokus (step into = block; customer = us - the participants in quiz would all be customers?)
I think if you win you should spend 50p of it on another puzzle. Do they have them monthly? Wasn't Margaret's puzzle another one in which you could win 10 pounds. It was fun. Let's do it again.
BJ ... There does not seem to be any regular pattern to these charity shop quizzes. They are fund-raisers, of course, so I always check to see if a new one is on offer. Solving this latest one together on the blog has been fun.
BTW ... I looked more closely at your STEP + CUSTOMER, to create COMPUTER SETS using every letter. Thanks again.
Stephen...Helping you? I didn't know any answers, well...I had spider man and snakes and ladders and a couple others but they were answered long before I could. Your mom got spinning top before I had a chance and I have a collection of those.
I'm better with numbers, or song lyrics and songs, ask your mom about that, we went head to head, down to the wire, and I came out the winner over your mom, man!
I put in six hours to every one of hers but nobody knows that, so just keep it between you and me.
I have to stay away from the blog sometimes because if somebody puts a puzzle on I'm addicted until it's solved...and I'm running out of excuses to miss work.
Yes Stephen, Ed is better than I am on songs and lyrics, but we sure had fun duking it out on Lui's superb puzzle. And Ed isn't the only family member addicted to puzzles. If I see an interesting puzzle, Bob says: "Don't tell your family about it." He figures we are ALL addicts. So, somebody.... feed our habit!
hear, hear, Edwardo, i started working on lucy's quiz then thought, crap, i've got stuff to do
listened to an interesting interview with a psychiatrist trying to get Internet addiction added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
the interviewer brought up the point that calling it an addiction may be going overboard... it seems these days everything is some kind of disorder, which is breeding a victim culture in which nobody is responsible for their behaviour ("in my day ADHD was called a pain in the ass...")
i'm of the mind the blog is not so much an addiction as an obsession
Here's a test I adapted for the blog from an Internet Addiction Test.
Give yourself the following points for each answer:
1 = Rarely 2 = Occasionally 3 = Frequently 4 = Often 5 = Always 0 = Does Not Apply
Scoring key:
< 20: You're probably just a blurker
20 - 40: You're an average blogger, contributing but not blogsessive
40 - 60: You're a blogianado, well entrenched, but probably not in danger of losing your job or getting divorced
60 - 80: You're definitely blogsessed, you might want to consider going on the Dr. Phil show.
>80: You're Lucy (hahaha, just kidding, Luce). Seriously, though, if you scored this high you might want to consider taking up something less damaging like Heroin or Gambling.
1. How often do you find that you blog longer than you intended?
2. How often do you neglect household chores to spend more time blogging?
3. How often do you prefer the excitement of the blog to intimacy with your partner?

5. How often do others in your life complain to you about the amount of time you spend blogging?
6. How often does your work suffer because of the amount of time you spend blogging?

Good Morning, Ed's Edition,
You are ONE year old today.
You were born to be our forum,
Letting bloggers have their say.
As we planned our big reunion
We ran contests; we played games,
Wrote some stories, verses, riddles,
Coined new words, created names.
When we gathered in Regina
You had fairly grown in size.
Even more than we expected,
You had strengthened family ties.
Now, beyond our family party
You have helped us stay in touch;
It's your quick and easy access
We appreciate so much.
Though your life is in our comments,
In our sharing and our fun,
You're the sum of all our entries.
You have had a healthy run!
It's a year since Ed's first posting
And you're still our family site;
Wishing you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Seems so natural and right!
Party On!
LOLOL, Lucy
One year old on the day after St. Patrick's celebrations.
Congratulations Ed on your ED'S EDITION first anniversary.
It has been a great year of communicating with all those connected to the Antonini/Wilson clan.
I have blurked over Louise's shoulder while she has blogged.
I can't remember if I am a blirgin, but you can call me a blalien in Scotland.
Looking forward to the 2nd anniversary.
Cheers....Dave
Wow, you guys are tough acts to follow. HAPPY BLIRTHDAY, Ed's Edition. What a great opening as we go into our second year. I going to give you another number challenge, only this one is really tough. I'll start you off with no clues, you'll get a few...we'll see. Ok, just one clue...only one is an address.

84 or should I say 85? Have you read the blog lately
I'm not even going to try for any stats except that I'm pretty sure Lucy is still #1.
working on ed's puzzle now
59 - number of beads on a 5 decade rosary
2505 - 23rd Avenue, formerly Campion College (Collegiate?), now the Regina Christian School.
28,800 - current seating capacity of Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field. Are they going to build the dome over Taylor Field or build a new stadium?
116 - I ain't gonna count 'em, but I'm guessing it's the number (and counting) of family members?
66 - Grey Cup numero uno Sask 29 Ottawa 14 in Vancouver
89 - Grey Cup numero dos Sask 43 (we still love you Dave Ridgeway) Hamilton 40 in Toronto
07 - How sweet it still is!!!!
I'll leave the last two for others to solve, mostly because I haven't got a clue.
Happy Blirthday from all the Gustafsons!
Happy birthday blog!
84 or 85 blogsters?
Well, that was fun.
We enjoyed all of yesterday's celebrations:
...Ed's bright new posting, his too-tough contest and his subsequent clues;
...BJ's positive forecast for the next blog year;
...Bob's surprising photo to accompany his unique and grateful greeting;
...Sonia's creative version of the birthday song (as well as her firm request for puzzle hints);
...Marty's birthday greeting ... period;
...Steve and Louise's first blog postings - hurrah;
...Barb's all-around hugs;
...Mary-Ellen's enthusiastic response to everyone and everything - (you never have to knock girl);
...Blephen's blunny blomment and
...Kenneth's blart reply (beyond his birthday wish);
...Margaret's relayed message;
...Thom's late appearance, birthday stats and puzzle solutions;
...Holly's family greeting;
...Lui's closing wish and
...our host of Ed's Edition blurkers, always in the background.
Well done, blogatives!
Love, Louise and David
84 or should I say 85?
Not correct Lou but befinitely blog related.
61154?
try it this way
6 11 54
or coming back
54 11 6
Oh, of course, Ed
Those are the highways to and from Regina Beach 6, 11 and 54. We loved the rollercoaster ride of the final stretch.
Lucy
84 or 85 blogging days since Christmas?
Dec(6 or 7),Jan(31),Feb(29), Mar(18)
LOL, Lucy
Is it 84 birthdays celebrated so far on the blog (85 with the blog itself)?
I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who remembered the highways by numbers.
Good guesses on the 84 0r should I say 85? But not correct.
You'll have to check one of the last entries in the last thread.
Here's another quiz, it will help to figure out the key within the category of PARTY GUESTS:

Good morning....
Ed..
BJ's Blexicon (60)+ Addenda (21) + (3 or 4)new ones = 84 or 85...
It's my lucky day (maybe) I'm off to the links to shoot that..
Cheers Dave B.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOUISE!
and happy, happy, spring!
March 20th is a double event for us as we celebrate your birthday at the same time as we welcome spring.
May your special day and this season of new life be filled with surprises, warmth and vitality.
Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David
We awoke on the first day of spring with a fresh blanket of snow! However, it's just a light dusting that should be gone by the afternoon, so it's less like a "blanket" and more like a light cotton sheet compared to the two layers of down comforters BJ has in Ottawa. Or has it all melted now, BJ, with your warm spring weather?
Anyways, Happy Spring everyone! It's always a glorious thing after our Saskatchewan winters (and this one was especially cold and long-lived)!
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"
- Robin Williams
Happy Spring, Everyone.
Happy Birthday, Louise.
LOL,
ME xoxoxoxo
Yes. David gets the last answer. I read BJ's posting about the blexicon in the last thread but I wasn't sure if Blirthday was included or did she come up with it in this thread.
Very good job on a tough puzzle.
So David, I hope you shoot that or maybe even a few better.
Happy birthday sister!!
PARTY GUESTS INCLUDE:
MARTIN
JOSEPHINE
GERARD
ELLEN
BEVERLEY?
FRANCIS
BARBARA
SILVANO
BJ
Aha.. second names,eh
Yes, Beverley is David's second name.
For the younger ones then:
Stephen WILLIAM
Sonia GAIL
Kenneth JAMES
Stephen CONTY
Barbara ELIZABETH
Louise JOAN
Thomas MARTIN
Holly SUZANNE
Very sneaky, Ed
LOL, Lucy
Ed,
Blirthday was new in this thread, so the answer was 84. Nice work, David.
Holly,
Yes, the snow is melting, but we still have loads of it.
Mary Ellen,
What an appropriate quote for today! Especially after yesterday's party. Let's party some more, bloggers.
Love, BJ
Wow, it sure feels nice being considered as a young one. Seems a little misleading with the clue when I count 4 40+ers and 1 50 year old(at least).
Also, after 415 cm of snow removal I ain't feelin' like a spring chicken.
I think Bled is showing a little favouritism towards one of the sisters with his selections.
Hey cool, the picture thing worked. That was Mona, Alexander and Emily in Sens gear, in deference to heritage this is us in Green Rider gear.
Age is relative! 40 and 50 is young to some of us.
Favoritism is good. I'm in favor of it.
Nice picture, Stephen.
Not so Stephen,
The names in Ed's two quizzes are those of us who made an appearance at the blog birthday party on March 18. If anything, a certain sister's family is showing favouritism to the blog!
Lucy
That should have been pictures. You sneaked a second one in while I was posting, Stephen.
You'll have to teach the rest of us how to do that picture thing. We tried it a few months back and managed to make a showing on the original post only.
Lucy
Just post a picture on your profile
Oh, is that ever nice, Stephen!
What is a profile?
I went searching for a profile and I am ready to give this a try.
Lucy
Wow, it worked! Thanks Stephen!
GOOD FRIDAY!
Thanks for the contests, Ed. Problem is, it leaves us wanting more! Here are some famous sayings from family members. Match them up.
Yee-haw.
Holy Cow.
Carry on rewardless.
You done good.
HOW many........?
What time is it?
Love, BJ
Here's a little one of mom's favorites you can work on.
NUTOMANI

Looks like I was making mine while Betty Jo slipped one in.
I'll try
Yee Haw - Mary Ellen
Holy Cow - Lou?
Carry on rewardless - Marcia?
You done good - Vic
How Many - Dad
What time is it - Marty
It's a nice start to Good Friday we've mentioned both mom and dad.
Have a great day.
Ed
I just looked at my first entry the answer should be a six letter word and then a three. It took my spaces out.
3 out of 6 for you Ed.
You got Mary Ellen, Dad and Marty right. You missed:
Holy Cow
Carry on Rewardless
You done good.
Try again, or maybe someone else can get them?
Mom's puzzle
mountain
castle
fairchild Is there such a word?
beach
A little arm?
Love, BJ
Ha ha!
The words in my puzzle all have something to do with Regina Beach.
Last (MOUNTAIN) Lake
Morency"s (CASTLE)
(FAIRCHILD)
Regina (BEACH)
A (LITTLE ARM)
Holy cow...Marcia?
Carry on rewardless....Lou?
You done good...Christine
Ed,
You are so far off, I'm giving you the answers now. Maybe these sayings aren't so famous after all.
Holy Cow. BJ I've used it many times on the Blog
Carry on rewardless. Vic.
You done good. Bob Barker.
I should have caught on to your puzzle either when I got a little arm as the answer or Fairchild as one of the clues. Talk about being far off.
Love, BJ
Betty Jo...I'm kicking myself in the ass..embly for not getting Holy Cow. I should have got Vic's as well. As for Bob's, I was probably never in the situation he could say it to me.
I'm not done...stay tuned

Good work, Lucy and Ed.
Ed is right on #2.
#4 could be farmer: Don
#7 could be horticulturist or landscaper: Stephen (Writer is too literal)
And here's one more:
A cowboy ______ needs a stage coach.
Love, BJ
Ed, I'll give this a try:
1. Stampede
2. Butcher
3. Garnet
4. Break
5. Jug
6. Bridles
7. Depot
8. Heritage
9. Cashed
10. Tuna
11. Tulip
12. Ronald
Lucy
Thanks, BJ
I haven't figured out my score yet. I'll take a stab at your extra occupation:
Singer (everyone except ME and BJ)
Lucy
Lucy,
Nope, try again.
Love, BJ
BJ I'll say a cowboy ACTOR needs a stage coach...Marty
Louise, you got Stampede, Garnet, Depot, heritage, and Tulip correct.
There is a key you must figure out, you could get help from all 14 with this one including you...and... the answers will give you an answer.
Ok Ed, I think the list should read:
Stampede
Butchart
Garnet
Eau Claire
Juan de Fuca
Bridges
Depot
Heritage
Cathedral
Rideau
Tulip
Royal
The filled-in letters spell
MANIAGO ITALY, Grandpa Antonini's home town, but I am still not clear on how the answers themselves relate to one another.
Louise
HAPPY EASTER!
HAPPY EASTER
Impressive Louise. As far as the answers relating to each other, try this...take the letters left over in each answer and anagram them for a bit more fun. In a case or two you'll have a couple initials left and maybe double up on a letter or two.
I'll try to get a few before Louise gets them all
Calgary Stampede
Garnet Street
Eau Claire Market
Juan de Fuca Strait
Rideau Ottawa
Tulip Festival
CP Depot Regina?
RCMP Depot Regina - Duh
Photo of who,when where?
Nice work, Stephen. I'll add:
Butchart Gardens
City of Bridges
Heritage Park
Holy Rosary Cathedral
Rideau Canal, Ottawa
Louise
Stephen...the mystery photo?

That it is Ed
Good guess by Louise though. I lent Marty my hat that day.

HAPPY EASTER.
Love, BJ
WOW! You guys are awesome.Smart AND good-looking! Love all the pictures.
HAPPY EASTER!

There's one more step to my puzzle.
Can you name the cities involved and what they have in common?
Holy cow, it's just like the old days around here, stay off the blog for a day and fall sorrily behind. Is it the anniversary or is it Easter?
In any event, congrats everyone for re-invigorating the family e-comm-line and Happy Easter.
I'm not even going attempt to chime in on any of the puzzles... I'm so confused, they're so fast and furious, I don't even know what has been answered and what hasn't.
oh yeah, and
DAM GO YO DOUR NE
Lucy,
Your answers are all good (and correct), although I had a couple of different ones.
Love, Mom
Hey, where is everybody?
Ed, the cities involved in your contest are:
Calgary:Stampede,Eau Claire Market, Heritage Park
Ottawa:Rideau Canal, Tulip Festival,
Regina: Garnet St, Holy Rosary Cathedral
Saskatoon: City of Bridges
St. Andrews: Royal and Ancient Golf Club
Victoria: Butchart Gardens, Juan de Fuca Strait
They are all cities that Antonini siblings are living in.
I think Lucy and David must have gone to Aberdeen or somewhere.
Hello.....anyone?
Love, BJ
Hello, hello!
BJ...we are here in St. Andrews having one of those days that just slips by unnoticed. Dave played the Old Course this morning and I did a bit of housework and laundry.
I couldn't go to bed without dropping in on the blog, though. Good night, now. Tomorrow's another day.
Love, Lucy
I also dropped in on Kenneth's Art Facts and discovered a seventh piano selection, newly posted.
What a perfect ending to my day!
Louise
March 25 - It's 9 months till Christmas. I think I'll celebrate by keeping my morning dental appointment - arrgghh!
Lucy
Here are the first 6:
1. Rotating at the summit
2. Be Hobbit Ruled (anagram)
3. Beware the vipers when scaling the Board
4. This Homosapien gets things done

11. Con came to help build this

3. Snakes and Ladders
4. Operation
7. Mousetrap
8. Transformer
6. Lincoln Logs?
12. My Little Pony?
Wow! With 6 answers already posted, I'm ready to put the rest of the clues down. I should have known my blogatives would give this a whirl, even without feedback. 6 down, 18 to go.
13. Le drab boil (anagram)
14. No Competition
15. Stellar Battles (one of the two I have been able to answer so far)
16. There was always one on Brucie's belt

22. Small member of the Hawk family
23. Limp tar one (anagram)
24. Measures your breathing?
Lucky Lucy
Thom ... could you explain how you got Operation for #4? At 65 I seem to be out of touch with the toy and game market.
Thanks
Lucy
Ken ... my favorite answer so far is My Little Pony. I see it now!
Thanks,
Lucy
13. Barbie Doll
14. Monopoly
2. Bob the Builder
18. Cabbage Patch Kid
19: paddling pool
23: trampoline
1. Spinning top?
16. cuddly toy
Gosh, we are already more than half way through the Quiz and the entry date (May 1) is over a month away. Keep it up. I just have to say it ... DOE DUG ANY ROOM!
Lucy
Auntie Louise, when you have a chance, can you repost the contest with answers so we know which ones have been solved?
I am blurk-working on the contest, however uncontributorily (is that a word?).
17. electric train set
22. Kite (not actually a hawk, but the only bird with a toy's name that I can think of)
Still working on the others.
Could 24 be a stethoscope from a junior doctor set?
Sure Holly:
So far we have:
1. Rotating at the summit: spinning top
2. Be Hobbit Ruled (anagram): Bob the Builder
3. Beware the vipers when scaling the Board: Snakes and Ladders
4. This Homosapien gets things done: Operation
6. Named after an American President: Lincoln Logs
7. Catches this rodent: Mousetrap
8. Mutator: transformer
12. I gave a vertically challenged equine: My Little Pony
13. Le drab boil (anagram): Barbie Doll
14. No Competition: Monopoly
15. Stellar Battles: Star Wars
16. There was always one on Brucie's belt: cuddly toy

22. Small member of the Hawk family: Kite

9. Violent destructive Wind
10. Note Think Methane Gas (anagram)
11. Con came to help build this
20. Step into the customer
24. Measures your breathing? (BJ has suggested this might be a toy stethoscope?)
So, we are now just 6 answers away from completing the quiz.
LOL, Louise
BJ ... I checked, and a kite is considered a member of the hawk family. Thanks.
That reminds me, Fife Library called to say that the book I reserved about 6 weeks ago has arrived - The Kite Runner. I hear it's a good one.
Lucy
Hey Louise,
I wouldn't necessarily trust all the answers are correct. For example: Operation, I figured the guy on the board is a homosapien (a homo sapiens to be more accurate) and players of the game do things to him... however, don't know if it's right.
Also, Mousetrap seems almost too obvious.
5. Rush Hour?
And Thomas is right to not trust all the answers. There may be a few trick questions in there.
Hi All,
Lucy, I just finished reading The Kite Runner, and yes, it's a good one. I think maybe number 9 is Tornado - a game toy or a tricycle.
That's all, Folks!
Love,
ME xoxoxoxo
I have to agree that some of the answers may not be as obvious they seem. I think if we keep tossing out suggestions, we'll hit on the best choice.
BJ ... I don't know about Rush Hour; I was wondering if BICYCLE might fit for #5? (No MOT or licence required)
Thom ... I like Mousetrap for # 7. Do you think #4 could simply be an action figure?
ME ... I haven't heard of Tornado but you just made me think of Twister for #9.
What about a construction set for #11?
I DO have an answer for the anagram in 10: Thomas the Tank Engine!
LOL, Lucy
I think 16 might have something to do with Bruce Wayne, as Batman he always had a boomerang or "Batarang" on his belt.
Yes, Lucy,
Bicycle is much better.
Ed, I think boomerang is brilliant.
LOL, Lucy
Ha. My answer seems to be one of those cases where a little bit of knowledge is misleading. I had never heard of Brucie...nice name though.
Lucy,
Vic tells me that after Elvis recorded Jailhouse Rock, Lego made an Elvis figure in a con shirt. Could this Elvis Lego be the answer to the clue Con helped build this?
PS: Go to my profile to see Lego Elvis.
BJ ... Vic's idea sounds (and looks) like a good one! If it's not the intended answer, it may be a better choice in the end. Good work!
I believe we still need an answer for:
20. Step into the customer
and possibly other suggestions for:
4. This Homosapien gets things done.
24. Measures your breathing?
Lucy
Today's luncheon concert on the university campus featured 5 scholarship students: a trombone player, 2 sopranos, a pianist and a viola player.
The youth and talent was inspirational. We walked home with buoyed spirits and lighter steps.
Luv, Lucy
I think 24 is probably a balloon.
Hey, what happened to my bunny?!?
Stephen ... thanks for the latest suggestion for an answer to #24.
Lucy
@Stephen: Hey, what happened to my bunny?!?
Toilet-throw gone bad?
(Just a guess).
I never miss a t.t. Just ask Orangie.
Great guess on 24, Stephen. I should have got that one! We must have almost all of them now. 'Step into customer' has me completely stymied.
Anybody else still have one of these?

Yes, Stephen, both Paul and Alan still have the work-sock monkeys that great-aunt Vic made for them when they were infants.
Thanks for the memories!
Luv, Lucy
There should be a sock monkey reunion!
Thanks, Stephen,
I guess you saw my post before I deleted it.
Could step into the customer be either Sorry! or Aggravation?
1966 hasbro introduced action figure "Action Man"(#4)
BJ ... I'm ready to consider anything on this last tough clue. Sorry seems to fit better than Aggravation but then I wonder why there is a reference to a customer?
Stephen ... I think I like Action Man for #4.
Lucy
Lucy,
How about Playmobil Supermarket or Playmobil Grocery store? I like the supermarket better; it has both a vendor and a customer, although I still don't know about the stepping into.
And I think Action Man is perfect for 4, Stephen.
Lucy again, filling in the final answers ....
I believe that #11 "Con came to help build this", turns out to be a cryptic clue. "Con came" spells "meccano"
So now I'm wondering if something similar is happening in #20 "Step into the customer"? Does anyone see anything cryptic in that? BJ?
Stephen,
It is bound to be a while before your sock monkey disappears from our desktop. It makes me smile every time I look at our computer screen.
Lucy
Hi Everybody,
Looks like evryone has been having a lot of fun with the latest puzzles & quizzes. It's also been a lot of fun looking at all the pictures you're putting on. Thanks. What a crew!
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
A GOOD AND WHOLESOME THING IS A LITTLE FUN IN THIS WORLD; IT TONES A BODY UP AND KEEPS HIM HUMAN, AND PREVENTS HIM FROM SOURING.

Lots of love,

Lucy,
Could step into the customer be computers?
comPuTErS
I think that answer is our best best, BJ.
That's it, then, all the blanks are filled in and my entry form is completed. Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions and answers!
Lucy
Happy Birthday, Robert!
We hope your March 28th birthday celebrations are fun for the whole family. TGIF!
Here's to you, Bonnie, Nicholas and Jessica on your special day!
Cheers and lots of love,
Louise and David
Happy birthday Uncle Wobbie!
Maybe its too late but I was thinking there's a puzzle called Blokus (step into = block; customer = us - the participants in quiz would all be customers?)
Stephen,
I haven't sealed the envelope yet. I'm still open to suggestions. Blokus seems a little far out to me, though.
Lucy
Lucy,
I think if you win you should spend 50p of it on another puzzle. Do they have them monthly? Wasn't Margaret's puzzle another one in which you could win 10 pounds. It was fun. Let's do it again.
Love, BJ
It is absolutely a stretch but I was hoping it might unlock something for somebody else.
Also, why isn't Ed helping us?
Lucy

Lucy,
you are probably right. I was trying to keep the word 'step' IN the word 'customer', but your answer works better.
Love, BJ
hear, hear, Edwardo, i started working on lucy's quiz then thought, crap, i've got stuff to do
listened to an interesting interview with a psychiatrist trying to get Internet addiction added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
the interviewer brought up the point that calling it an addiction may be going overboard... it seems these days everything is some kind of disorder, which is breeding a victim culture in which nobody is responsible for their behaviour ("in my day ADHD was called a pain in the ass...")
i'm of the mind the blog is not so much an addiction as an obsession
Here's a test I adapted for the blog from an Internet Addiction Test.
Give yourself the following points for each answer:
1 = Rarely
2 = Occasionally
3 = Frequently
4 = Often
5 = Always
0 = Does Not Apply
