November 2013

Ok. So, we've installed hardwood or some other type of flooring in somewhere between 50 and 75 houses in the last 12 months. I have to tell you, if you're not visiting someone you know in the house, they are "all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same". Another thing, we had just finished the identical house a block over when it happened. So it's not unimaginable that a person might walk out the front door, carrying a table saw, and step off the porch where a set of stairs would have been if not for having been removed so a newly poured concrete walk could cure. I grant that Google is fast, but I gotta tell ya, it's no match for a brain measuring it's options before disaster. Now, I'm not claiming to understand Albert's theory of relativity, but, the energy equals mass times velocity, velocity squared yet, eliminated my first option. Set the saw down as I hit and tuck and roll was my second, until my brain registered the hole recently excavated for a basement next door. Mind you, it wasn't much of a hole, perhaps 7 or 8 feet deep. I've stood on the precipice of the Grand Canyon, now that's a hole. Even so, option two was out, and, I was running out of time. My last option. Land on my feet and set the saw down as my legs buckle, throw my head violently to the side to avoid either knee driving my chin to my forehead and use my ass for padding to bring myself to a halt. Would have worked to, if I hadn't caught my nose on a stuccoed column. Stupid brain didn't manage to notify me of that one. I've heard of people paying thousands of dollars to have their nose shortened, I did mine myself, for free. I'm playing Rudolph in my grandkids play this Christmas.

Have a great November

Laughing out loud, again.
Loved, you really have to write that book. Even if you never publish it, it can be a journal for posterity.
Happy November.

Well, Ed, I agree with BJ. You really should be compiling a collection of your stories for publication or posterity. You sure know how to make people laugh. I love the closing line in this story.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TONY!

Congratulations on your 67th birthday. Tonight is Bonfire Night in Scotland so we're going to pretend that the East Sands display of fireworks is all about celebrating YOU.

We'll toast you with a shot of the grappa we brought back from our latest trip to northern Italy. It is a gift to us from Silvano and Marina Antonini Canterin who always send their greetings to family in North America.

So, here's to a great Guy Fawkes birthday celebration and to each and every member of your wonderful family in Regina. Cheers!

Lots of love and warm wishes,
Louise and David

November 6

On this 6th anniversary of her death, Mom has been in my thoughts all day today. Night has closed in on me now and I'm heading off to bed with the glowing fimo rosary that she made especially for me so many years ago.
God bless her!

Thanks for the reminder, Louise. I just found a photo of Mom that I thought everyone might like to see. I'll send it via email. Love Christine

Thanks for your comments, Lucy, and for the photo, Chris. I too am remembering Mom today. It doesn't seem like six years.

Louise and David said...

Thanks Christine! That photo of Mom was good for a laugh on a day of remembering all the good things about our mother. I am most grateful for my 13 siblings who seem to love me the way that she did - unconditionally.

Thanks for the picture Chris. Mom made a very cute fortune-teller. Also a cute clown, pumpkin, firefighter and all the other costumes she came up with for Halloween.
We 14 come from some good stock!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MONA!

Saturday is one of the best days of the week for a teacher to celebrate her birthday. Your time is your own today and there no classes to prepare for tomorrow.

We hope you are savoring every minute of this day. We know that your family will make it special for you and we want to add our wishes to theirs as you celebrate your 49th birthday. Here's to you on this happy occasion - to joy in the present moment and throughout the coming year!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDRY!

Congratulations on your 41st birthday. On this fine Sunday in November, the weather here in St. Andrews was nice enough for Dave to play an afternoon round of golf and for me to walk into town.

Tonight we're back at home enjoying a wee dram and toasting your health and happiness now and throughout the coming year. May you enjoy many happy returns of this day.

Cheers, love and warm wishes,
Louise and Dave

YAY RIDERS!!!

Louise and David said...

We woke up this morning to the exciting news that the Riders had won the Grey Cup - and very handily at that.

Heck, when a game doesn't even start until midnight GMT, we retirees have to go to bed and leave the cheering to die-hard fans. The noise of the crowd is deafening in all the follow-up reports we've checked on line.

What a night for Rider Nation!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUKE!

Yesterday's victory celebrations are probably still going on today as you mark your 34th birthday. If you're a Rider fan, you won't mind that at all. In fact, you'll already be in party mode and it will be easy for you, your family and your friends to make this a birthday to remember.

Years from now, when someone asks you, "What were you doing on your 34th birthday? you'll be able to say, "Riding the wave of a victory celebration."

Here's to your birthday and to the story that will build around being in the right place at the right time. May you enjoy this day on which a significant event in sports history coincides with a personal celebration. Cheers!

Warm wishes and lots of love,
Louise and David

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VERONICA!

(We won't mention the results of Grey Cup action to anyone who lives in Ontario.)

Congratulations on your birthday. It's always nice to start off a new week with a celebration that turns an ordinary, blue Monday into a red-letter day. We hope you have already received lots of birthday greetings from family and friends alike - us included.

Here's to you, Veronica. May you enjoy many happy, healthy returns of this day.

Cheers, love and warm wishes,

I saw Len in the second half of the game. Tom Hanks and Martin Short were hamming it up and there was Len right beside them, smiling at their antics.
3 superstars!!
I paused the TV and gave Len a kiss……forget the other 2.

Christine said...

ok. Let's try this again. Thanks Mary-Ellen for your cheer. I think that may be why we won. Of course there was the green and white comet that passed over last week and the Chinook that brought warmer weather (apparently just for game day). Everything seemed to align but we all know that good things come to those who work their buns off. Yay Riders

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALEXANDER!

Congratulations on your 18th birthday. Last year at this time we were at sea - cruising the Atlantic and out of touch with the Internet. This year we are already back in Canada where we are able to send greetings your way.

We hope your Saturday celebration is a happy one, made special by the wishes of family and friends. It's nice for us to be able to join them in sending greetings your way. May your birthday weekend be lots of fun and may the year ahead bring many good things your way. Cheers!

Lots of love,
Louise and David

I believe in Santa Claus... To experience Bob and Mary Ellen's Christmas home is something all of us need to do someday. From the old style Tree and fantastic production of Christmas in every room, right up to the heavenly dinner and of course ME's famous Christmas Pudding. Lui and Marie, Karen and myself were there. AND, if THAT weren't enough...SANTA showed up in the form of Louise and Dave, What a most beautiful Christmas present. Thank you sooooo much to Mary Ellen and Bob.

Love Martin and Karen xo
